Serrano and José Ortega y Gasset (in Lista) are great for shopping and are lined with luxury and designer shops. The residential neighborhoods of Recoletos, Lista, Goya and Castellana feature some of Europe’s most expensive real estate, and the area itself is one of Madrid’s most important commercial zones.

Chamberi

This small, historic residential district is becoming gentrified as young professionals move to the area. Madrid is all bustling plazas, lively tapa bars, and a rich variety of museums showcasing Spain’s most celebrated artists. The world-famous Prado Museum features the work of Goya and Velázquez. The Prado forms the "golden triangle" with the Reina Sofía Museum—home to Picasso’s "Guernica"—and the Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum, an enormous private collection highlighting a wide array of artistic styles.
Madrid’s medieval architecture holds centuries of history, like the intricate portico arches of Plaza Mayor, as well as the baroque Royal Palace, where state ceremonies are held to this day. And visiting top attractions like these is easy thanks to the city’s efficient and high-speed Metro system.
Spain's sprawling capital is a city that lives and breathes soccer. If you’re a fan, catch a game at the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium—home to Real Madrid—and roar with the rest of the crowd as the "Galácticos" take the field.
Madrid’s weather is pleasant year-round, with perfectly comfortable temperatures on either side of summer. Even a winter vacation practically guarantees clear blue skies – making for a beautiful sight when flying into the airport during the day.

Beautiful, busy and clean city.

Beautiful, busy and clean city. The huge ornate buildings, the restaurants and the cafes are many. Service staff in any establishment I visited were all accommodating with English. Prices for food or souvenirs were comparable to any other city and very reasonable. We had lunch at Gino’s and it was delicious.

Nice city with big boulevards to stroule around and enjoy free time. Always a pulsating city with heaps of people around. But don't miss the Metro, it's very cheap to get to other parts of the city and explore them, too.
My first visit to Madrid and surrounding areas.
May 20, 2024
My first visit to Madrid and surrounding areas. So much to see, lots of culture, history, The Prado and celebrations (We happened to be there on May 2nd, to see the festivities). What impressed me above all else is how affordable Madrid is, especially compared to London and Paris, Had I known, I would have stayed longer and I look forward to returning. Looking back, I felt we just scraped the surface of this great city.

Madrid is a great city to visit. There is the subway and busses to go around. We stayed in the center and did everything walking. We did a city tour. There are many terraces and restaurants. A great city, very safe!
Nice City to visit for a short break.

Nice City to visit for a short break. Hop on Hop off bus was good way to see the City. Plenty reasonably priced restaurants in the Centre. May was a good month to visit, pleasantly warm but not too hot.
