Renowned for its sunny climate, Freiburg Im Brisgau is one of Germany’s best kept secrets. Nestled on the edges of the sprawling Black Forest, Freiburg Im Brisgau is filled with gorgeous medieval architecture, lush green spaces and culinary treats that make it the perfect place to holiday.
Freiburg Im Brisgau is home to a range of breathtaking architecture, many of which are coincidentally coloured red. There’s the Freiburg Münster, a 14th-century Gothic cathedral with a towering spine in Münsterplatz, the city’s largest square. There’s also the Whale House, a large Gothic building in the old town made famous by the 1970s horror film ‘Suspiria’, and The Historical Merchants' Hall.
Freiburg Im Brisgau is surrounded by hills and covered with parks and offers plenty of outside activites. The Freiburgh Botanical Garden is a definite highlight, as is the Schlossberg, a tree-lined hill that offers sweeping views of the city. If you’re up for something more adventurous, check out the nearby Black Forest for a hike through stunning natural landscapes.
Food lovers will simply adore Freiburg Im Brisgau. The city boasts many culinary highlights including Markthalle, a 19th-century building packed with foods from around the world. Take your pick from Japanese, Italian, French, Indian, Brazilian and Middle Eastern cuisines, or perhaps try something quintessentially German.

Another stay at this great hotel right in the center of Freiburg, Cant fault location, meet and greet and the Hotel bar and reception area. I stay here every month, and noticed that when booking a stay with Booking.com I'm given a very small room miles away from the lifts and with no working AC, so have to open window so very noisy...

A beautiful old town with excellent restaurants, shops, bakeries and cosy bars. Small enough to walk around its cobble streets with quant little streams and easy to explore further with a very good public transport system and cycle lanes as is usual for Germany. The wooded hills that surround the town are a joy to walk in and offer great views. The stunning gothic cathedral tower of lattice stonework is well worth the many steps for the views. A picturesque tram and bus ride takes you to the Schauinslandbahn cable car to explore the black forest mountains around Feldberg. Hard to navigate the walks up there though as the maps and signs are confusing so easy to get lost without a phone. On a rainy day a great value museum day ticket gets you into all the museums for one price. One of the main old landmarks, the Martinstor gate tower is sadly ruined by the huge Mcdonalds sign on the side. Why was this allowed, like putting a coke cola sign on the Eifel tower.

Frieburg im Bresigau is located on the edge of the Black Forest and is a good centre for visiting that area. It also has an interesting old town (with a good range of restaurants) a good public transport system and easy access to the surrounding countryside
Great University town.

Great University town. Seemed safe even at night. Ate in a variety of places including the market at Munster plaza. Great experience. Getting around is easy and quick because of the good tram service. Not very crowded. Weather was a little unpredictable.

Freiburg has so much history and a beautiful shopping district with a lot of restaurants very close to transportation. The food is amazing and it is so easy to get around in Freiburg. The people are so kind and very helpful. It is very important that you remember that all shops are closed on Sundays, with the exception of most restaurants. Be sure to have Euros on hand for this day, as a lot of places do not use credit cards. Check out City Park and get awesome views of the city from the tower, easily located by taking Landwasser to the fourth stop at Am Bischofskreuz. It's behind the Studentensiedlung am Seepark or the "Stussie," which is student housing for Freiburg. You have to try the tea and delights at the Turkish bakery, Sevgin. It is just a short walk from the main train station. You will not be disappointed.
