About Ras al Khaimah

Including tips for the best time to visit Ras al Khaimah

Surrounded by the imposing Hajar Mountains, Ras Al Khaimah is the northernmost emirate of the United Arab Emirates and is famed for its golden beaches, crystal-clear waters and dramatic desert scenery. But there’s more to this place than just outdoor activities. Ras Al Khaimah – or simply ‘RAK’ – is awash with world-class museums, serene open spaces and beautiful buildings such as the pearly white Sheikh Zayed Mosque.

To see Ras Al Khaimah looking its best, take a stroll at sunset down the city's Al Qawasim Corniche promenade – a scenic walkway through protected mangroves frequented by both walkers and joggers alike. Other sites of interest include the RAK zoo, the National Museum of Ras Al Khaimah – a small museum housed in an old fort packed with artefacts and trinkets, and Saqr Park – a peaceful spot with wide-open spaces, a playground and even a fairground. For an insight into the region's pearling past, head to Suwaidi Pearls, where you can enjoy a boat ride and an informative tour.

The main draw of Ras Al Khaimah is what's on its doorstep. The mighty Jebel Jais mountain, the UAE's tallest at the height of 1,892 metres, is situated just to the northeast of the city, and it offers you the chance to career down the face of it at 150 kph on one of the world's longest ziplines.

Do not book through Booking.

26 March 2024

Do not book through Booking.com as they over charge over hotel tariff and also the hotel doesn't refund in case you shorten your trip. For example the hotel staffs here told me the tariff is actually 160-200 AED and booking .com charged me over 250. I finished the job early and checked out one night earlier but they made me pay for entire period as booking .com had already got their commission .

The Northern Emirates are a real gem, providing a completely different experience from Dubai/ Abu Dhabi. Because it is close to the mountains and the Omani border, there are new places to visit. Really worthwhile!

6 February 2024

Raw Al khaimah is much less impressive than other emirates. The city is very widespread. There are few tourist sites. The major attractions are extreme high end resorts and some high adrenaline activities. Buses quite infrequent. Lots of malls.

Things I liked:

5 January 2024

Things I liked: the beach , pools, rooms. Late check out, free Upgrade from garden view to pool view. Cleanliness of rooms. Things I didn’t like: Some staff are friendly to all and some are friendly to certain people . Some staff pretend not to speak good English to avoid talking to you. Half board got several packages, some packages comes with water only no sodas of any kind. Gym needs more and better equipments.
