Set in a historic manor house from the 18th century, this charming guest house is located in a picturesque village in the countryside of northern Portugal - ideal for a peaceful, relaxing break.

Recently classified as Architectonic Patrimony with Public Interest and Certificate of Quality, Casa do Meio do Povo - Turismo de Habitação can arrange bicycle tours, golf and massage on request. Guests are also invited to explore the surroundings and engage in hiking, fishing, hunting, canoeing and other outdoor activities.

I have been traveling around North Portugal for over two months, a week here and a week there, trying to settle in my head where to purchase a home. Exhausting and frustrating is a mild description of my physical and emotional state. Casa do Meio do Povo was so relaxing and gloriously situated that I did not want to do anything but read a book, lay in the shade, walk the grounds and take in the peace of my surroundings. There truly is a heaven on earth.

An oasis just off the highway in a small village in farm country. Beautiful stone hotel, gorgeous pool and terraces, fantastic food, welcoming staff. We loved everything about it, could stay there for a week easily and happily.

Situated in Chaves, just 500 metres from Chaves Thermal Spa, Guest House Chaves provides accommodation with free WiFi. It is set a 7-minute walk from Chaves Roman Bridge and offers a kitchen (Kitchen has a sofa-bed).

The description on Booking.com of this place is somewhat vague as it didn't talk about bedrooms but mentioned a sofa-bed in the kitchen, so I arrived in some trepidation as to what I would find! I needn't have worried - the place is absolutely delightful in every way. There are a couple of apartments in the main building which is in a camping park for campervans (hence parking for a car is a breeze). The whole area is surrounded by trees and grass and so is very quiet. The location is superb as it's a ten minute walk across a lovely park, by the side of the river, to the centre of Chaves. There are three bridges one can use to cross the river (the big road bridge, the modern (stylish) pedestrian bridge and the ancient Roman Ponte Trajano) as well as stepping stones for the adventurous - there are signs to be careful - if you misjudge them you may drown! There are, of course loads of restaurants and cafes across the river in old Chaves and for those who want fast food there is a McDonalds and Burger King a ten minute walk away. Chaves is, in all ways, a lovely place. The chap running the place could not be more friendly and welcoming and tried his best to communicate with me in English, always greeting me when passing. The internet worked well both inside and outside. My apartment was on two floors and I could sit on a bench and a table and chair outside, which was great as I hate being cooped up inside. The kitchen was a bit dated but perfectly functional, with a nice feature being the old stove which has been kept. The bed is comfortable, the linen is very acceptable and there is piping hot water. On top of all that is the price, which is extremely reasonable. When I'm next in northern Portugal, I know where I'm headed first!

The renovated building was lovely.certainly the best Ibis we have stayed in anywhere. Central location easy parking on street. Staff were excellent. We completed a 6 day drive on the N2 road from Faro to Chaves and decided we needed 2 nights to relax. This hotel is amazing value and this ancient Roman spa town was worth staying in for sure.Be sure to check out the archaeological dig site in the town museum.

What an amazing place to stay! The 400 year old house has been lovingly restored and is full of quirky and characterful details. Luis gave us such a warm welcome, including some lovely wine. Breakfast was hearty and plentiful. We had the place mostly to ourselves and enjoyed relaxing in the living area by a cozy fire in the evening. We only regretted not having a chance to buy some wine or have dinner as our stay was quite short.

In a stunning location / building. Very close to the centre of town, 2 minutes walk to everything. Breakfast was amazing, lots of variety on offer, staff cleaning everything down in between diners. Very COVID aware & safeguards in place. Room was clean & spacious. Day spent around the pool was relaxing & nice area to be at. Aircon was brilliant.
