Great location just under Penshaw Monument, in the middle of the countryside. Very good facilities in the property and very well laid out. Owner even set up a Xmas tree and lights for our stay - a lovely touch. We also made use of the cafe next door - they make an excellent cooked breakfast in the morning.

I was given a top level room initially. I am 77 and disabled through cancer and found it very difficult. I was transferred to the lowest level the following day as soon as a room became available. The staff couldn't have been kinder and put themselves out to make me comfortable. Carly was especially helpful and apologetic.

Very central for Durham City and surrounding areas.
Very central for Durham City and surrounding areas. Large free car park which was easy to manouvere. Hotel was lovely, rooms were large and well stocked with toileteries, hairdryer, iron on request which was brought swiftly to our room. The adjoining bar was well stocked with lots of different beers/lagers, wines etc. Food was available in either the bar or the Thai Resturant. Staff are very friendly very helpful, nothing was any trouble to them. Would not hesitate to return.

Set by the side of a busy country road in beautiful countryside close to the A1(M). Fabulous beer garden, plenty of parking and large restaurant.
We stayed in a beautifully appointed room but unfortunately this was at the front of the hotel and the traffic was busy. To be fair, if we hadn't needed the window open so wide due to the warm evening then this would not have been a problem to us.

the hotel was ideally located for where my son and i were visiting and not far from the metro shopping centre. even though our room looked on to the A1 it was not that noisy. rooms were spotless and had tea and coffee facilities and also information book of local attractions near by which was very useful for us as visitors

Now 53, I lived in Houghton le Spring for the first 22 years of my life, with many family and friends still living there. I can honestly say there is nothing for anyone in Houghton unless you are visiting friends or family. It's difficult to sum up a place in a few words, but with the single ATM in the town centre not working when we were there, most food outlets having a hand-scribbled note on the windows reading "Cash Only", and all closed shops on a night feeling the need to have steel shutters, sums it up for me. There are still lots of lovely people living in the town, but I really couldn't recommend it to anyone that doesn't NEED to visit!

It's a little gem of a hotel, not only was our room beautifully presented, extremely comfortable and very clean, but also the dining room perfectly matched the great food. An added bonus was found in the public bar which was like stepping back in time. But the real plus was the staff, from the housekeeping ladies, to the restaurant staff all were fantastic, but a big thank you must go to Louise for her attention to detail and all our needs. Definitely going back sometime in 2023.
Newly refurbished rooms above the hotel have been completed to a very high standard. We were greeted by Amy who took us to our room. She was friendly and helpful. Our room was comfortable and clean and we enjoyed our stay. Breakfast in the morning was excellent.
Very welcoming staff in a lovely well kept hotel. We stayed a few miles from a wedding a ramside hall, drive is down the road and easily accessible. Breakfast included was really nice. The photos didn’t really do it justice, would stay again.
This is a very good hotel and superb value for money, way, way better than other travel chain type hotels that would be considered as there competitors. Very good Thai restaurant too which was a very pleasant surprise and delicious.
Bed big & very comfortable.Staff very friendly & helpful.Food in the thai restaurant adjoining it was to die for. Will definately return to the hotel.Nothing
