Twizel is a great base for all the wonderful activities the region has to offer--dark skies, Alps to Ocean, Āoraki, incredible lakes, hot springs, hiking. A lot of very good restaurants with something for all tastes. Two or more grocery stores, with great wine selections and customer service. Great outfitters for biking.

We have been here a few times now and love it.
We have been here a few times now and love it. It is the gateway to Mt Cook - we have done a heli hike, some wonderful walks and tramps, taken in the rivers and lakes, soaked in the hot tubs, eaten at local restaurants, shopped in the local stores, star gazed .... the list goes on.
The locals are super friendly - Twizel is just down the road from Tekapo but is nowhere near as busy or commercial. Accessible from Christchurch or Queenstown - you can fly into one, rent a car and fly out from the other, or just do a round trip. We will be back !!

Restaurants and cafes very busy and some were closed.
Restaurants and cafes very busy and some were closed. Since it was Easter Sunday and the finish of Warbirds Airshow, we had difficulty finding somewhere to have dinner and certainly no place for breakfast.

Twizel is a small town but growing, with new housing areas on the edge of town and spreading out from there. It is mainly a holiday town but has a core of permanent residents.
It has a nice wee shopping area, good restaurants and is handy to the other lakes in the area and to a ski field in winter. It also gives easy access to Aoraki Mt Cook and the Waitaki Valley.

Cute town.
Cute town. It has what one needs to enjoy the getaway—groceries, pharmacy, gas, some clothing stores. And, most importantly, nice people who—in spite of the numbers of tourists who are in and out of town—are kind and helpful. Thank you, Twizel!

Nice little place with easy access by car to several lakes and the Hooker Valley walk. Nice river walk with views to Mt Cook.
Twizel has few tourists that we saw and has a very different feel to it than Tekapo, which we didn’t like at all.
We didn’t eat out in Twizel, but we did see a few restaurants, we cooked at the house as had great facilities there.
Good supermarkets.
Arriving to a beautiful, warm house was fabulous.
All bedrooms are lovely and welcoming and the living space was just perfect - the kitchen had every utensil you could possibly need.
Definitely keen to head back for a summer visit.. the outdoor space is as inviting as the indoor.
Fabulous location for walking to Twizel shops and restaurants.
We loved staying at Rathlin Cottage, and would book the same accommodation for our future trips to Twizel.
A spacious, comfortable and modern room that felt nice and private. Everything was clean, tidy and there's a handy folder with recommendations of local walks / things to do. It's a good location, an easy walk to various bars / restaurants and parking was simple. There's a small car park (accommodating around 3 cars) for the hotel but you're down a quiet side street so there's plenty of roadside parking also.
This was the cutest and best Airbnb we have ever stayed in and we have stayed in a lot. Super comfortable bed and accommodations , views out every window, robes, great snacks and continental breakfast, best shower of whole month long trip and super fun outdoor tub to enjoy star gazing or morning coffee. I only wish we could have stayed longer. I highly recommend this adorable cottage!!
This accommodation is perfect for larger groups, offering ample space, every room has its own bathroom.
Very cozy, especially with the fireplace.
The location is a major plus, easily accessible and close to Twizel, but also not a far drive from the awesome landscapes in the area. Our overall experience was great and would definitely book again.
The house was beautiful, very clean and had everything we needed (the kitchen was exceptionally well stocked). The setting was gorgeous with great outdoor spaces and heaps of parking and room to turn around (which was handy with us having a boat). A little outside Twizel on a nice quiet street and nice and close to the lake.
There were inexpensive food trucks only a block away. (The hotel also has a convenient buffet at their on-site restaurant but we weren't that hungry for a large meal). The property is well maintained. There was a small refrigerator in the room (but I think that is pretty standard in NZ).
Have stayed in this motel multiple times. I like the style of the units, some might say dated but I think they are cool. Can park right outside and walk into Twizel. Cosy with the heatpump running. Plenty of space in the cabins, some have views to Mount Cook/Aoraki . Will stay again.
Rosedale Cottage combines the charm of a small, intimate setting with the comfort of a well-appointed hotel. The lovely host and comfortable accommodations make for a memorable and enjoyable stay. It’s an ideal choice for travelers seeking a cozy retreat with a personal touch.
Second time I’ve stayed at twizel holiday park, the whole thing is super easy! I come to twizel once a month at a minimum from Dunedin and am fishing for 15 hours at least of the day, so it’s nice to have a place as little Hassle as possible! Looking forward to the next trip
The location was very convenient for traveling to Mt. Cook National Park. The wide open space was nice too, especially since it's in the dark sky reserve. No food options immediately nearby, but it's not far from Twizel.
Cheap and cheerful! Wasn’t expecting anything more than what we got and it was perfect for what we needed. Bathrooms and showers were plentiful and clean. Kitchen utensil box is provided free of charge at check in.
Everything was perfect! From the location and friendly staff to the clean and spacious room and complimentary breakfast, the hotel exceeded our expections. Would 100% recommend and come back if we visit NZ again.
I always stay here when in Twizel. The location is very handy. The rooms are clean, though a bit dark. Plenty of car parking. Near to the town center. The bathroom is nice and clean. Overall a good stay.
If we could give a higher rating, we would. One of the best hotels we’ve ever stayed at. Super warm and homey with an incredibly tranquil view. Delicious breakfast and an ultra clean room.
The location in central Twizel was fantastic. Easy walk to everything you need. Grocery, Bakery, Restaurants etc. The hotel grounds were fantastic. Nice table right outside the room
Extremely accommodating and helpful as it was a busy time of year and our other booking fell through with a different hotel, awesome to deal with and good size rooms
After staying in our van for a week, was a much needed reprieve. Really tidy and clean! Guy at the front desk was a legend. What a lovely friendly town twizel is :)
