Our stay at Polfareren exceeded our expectations. The hotel was super clean and the staff very friendly. The room was really big and the bathroom had a heated floor. It, was located outside of the main compartment, but of course we knew it and we didn't have any issues. We visited the archipelago in late April so keep in mind the sun never sets. The room is not completely dark so I recommend the use of sleeping masks. We personally liked it a lot that we got that light cause we experienced the polar night 100%. The breakfast was good and tasty. When we visit Svalbard again we know where to stay. Also an advice to all travelers, if you go to Svalbard do the Trollsteinen hike, It's by far the best activity we have had 😁.
Set in the Skjæringa area of Longyearbyen, Mary-Ann's Polarrigg is built with old rigs. Central Longyearbyen is between 6-8 minutes walk away and the airport bus stops right in front of the hotel.

Very nice breakfast. One time the chef lady cooked extra scrambled eggs when it ran out at the end of closing time. We love the location, walked around the town. Walked down the road to take pictures of the mountains. Nice memories of it.

The property is very unique in terms of the look & feel of the boutique hotel. Not too big but tastefully made. No shoes allowed inside so it stays clean thru out. Nice breakfast.

Fantastic place!! Highly recommend! The best shower in 6 weeks of traveling Norway. Lots of room (some showers are like phone booths), plenty of pressure and lots of hot water. Staff were very helpful and maintained exceptional cleanliness. Very quiet and the best equipped kitchen, with everything and more that you could need. 15 minute walk into town , but I recommend the adjacent Funken Lodge for early morning coffee (7 AM instead of 10 AM in town) and exceptional dinners! Highly recommend the reindeer heart, and the steak dinner. Comfortable bed and nice sitting area with lots of room and closet space. Can not say enough how nice it was to stay here. Good value too!

If you are active and passionate about the stunning beauty of the Arctic, Longyearbyen should be on your list. By snowmobile, skis, or even by foot, you will discover extreme landscapes, dramatic snow-covered mountains, and glaciers. In March, the colors of the sunset and twilight hours are the dream of any photographer.
Pack your stay with many activities and certainly do not miss out on all the great food that the many restaurants in town have to offer.

Friendly, clean, warm, welcoming and quirky.
Friendly, clean, warm, welcoming and quirky. Excellent home cooked breakfast. Close to town. So quirky it reminded me of Banksy’s Walled Off hotel on the West Bank. Great opportunity to stay in ex-mining accommodation.

This is a very interesting fully functional Cory located in the middle of the Arctic Ocean pretty close to the North Pole. (Closer to the north pile than any other major city in the world.) Anyone can visit Svalbard and stay here as long as you like, regardless of 'nationality' / passport(s). It's great if you have money, but even if you don't you can find inexpensive food at the store (if you look hard) and there's free food left at the hostel, plus they give you free breakfast. 🙂

For somebody from South India the place can only be described as otherworldly... like going to a different planet, almost. The weather was in the minus 20 s when i visited last week and it is essential that one prepares for this if visiting in the winter. It is not exactly easy to get around in this island of 2,000 people or so. I came to my hotel in the airport bus and was picked up by the organisers of my various activities like dog sledding etc. I believe there is a taxi but am not sure it can be hailed quickly. Apart from the city centre ( which is 3 streets) other places like the church, harbour etc are a bit of a walk and one has to be prepared for that. It is impossible to walk to these places in winter in the cold and pitch dark. Vegetarian food options were available but limited. Overall, it was a memorable experience, though.

The end of the earth, or so it feels... we arrived for snow on the ground in September and below freezing the whole time. The one big shop, the Co-op, in the town is great, has everything you need, plus the only alcohol shop is part of it selling a big range, you need to show a boarding pass for your flight to buy drink though! Liked the Svalbard brewery by the harbour, their beer is in every bar in town but on a Friday you can book a space in their taproom, really good. Karlsberger pub (in the shopping centre) is worth a go too, lots of mining decor and a huge range of spirits. For unusual food, Mary-Ann's Polarrigg has a restaurant attached with (so I heard) superb food, but the bar there will serve food too, we had the home smoked tasting plate of Minke whale, bearded seal and reindeer which was fascinating. Didn't see any polar bears, which was both good and bad, it's a strange feeling to be walking around and not to be the alpha predator...

We loved the people, we met. Everyone was hospitable.
We loved the people, we met. Everyone was hospitable. And all the guides we had, were really good and dedicated. The Haugen pensjonat was, like everything else, an excellent experience. We felt everybody did their best and loved what they did.
We had fish and chips at Kroa. The food was really nice and good for the price, and the room was a local experience made of timber.
We went around in Longyearbyen by foot or were driven by our guides. Between the airport and the town is also a bus with reasonable prices.
For my next visit, I would wear warmer clothes - a thin layer of merino wool under the gloves and normal clothes.
This is 10/10 experience! Extremely friendly staff, sparkling clean premises with all necessary (and 'nice-to-have') facilities in the bathroom, kitchen and common areas, convenient check-in/check-out. Way better experience than 4* hotel in the same town. I hope this place will be available during my next stay in Longyearbyen!
Quirky hotel with unique, historical artifacts scatttered around. The wintergarden is warm, lush, and delightful, and the main living room is book filled and cozy. Breakfast is included, however, has the same offerings every day so after morning 6, one is pretty food fatigued.
It was one of the most comfortable hotel beds I've ever slept on! The breakfast was also really good - variate, healthy, and hearty. Definitely fuels you enough to go through the day! And special mention to the hotel staff, they were really kind to us at all times!
Great place to stay! We would always prefer these Appartements over a regular hotel room. Located in the heart of Longyearbyen, cosy and well equipped. There is a big table in the living room perfect for groups to eat and chat.
We will be back!
The room facilities are very new and the interior is very warm. Breakfast is very varied, and the staff are very friendly and polite to solve all our problems. The location of the hotel is in the city center, which is very convenient.
A great hotel in an incredible location. It's modern and comfortable. You have access to a sauna, a cocktail bar, and a small library to relax after a day of Arctic adventures. You cannot get tired of the view from the restaurant.
Sound proof rooms has everything. Breakfast was fabulous. I stayed in the main hotel most and one night in annexe opposite was ok but not quite as nice as main hotel. Big supermarket Coop 2 mins walk and hotel in great position
Perfectly located, nice and very helpful staff, delicious breakfast with the most amazing view. Sauna after a day outside was just a perfect addition and a restaurant/bar at the entrance of the hotel was great and convenient.
The location was excellent for all shops, grocery and restaurants. The room was cozy and the bed comfortable. The architecture is unique and inviting. Delicious breakfast with many homemade items. Highly recommend.
As expected from a former coal miners living quarters. Great staff! Chatting with guests either going out or coming back from expeditions and tours. Good breakfast. Nice long walk in to the center of Longyearbyen.
The apartment was spacious, clean, had a fully equipped kitchen and next to supermarket and restaurants. And the apartment has 1.5 bathrooms which was really helpful since we were a group of 4 people
Clean hotel. Staff was really friendly and helpful. Room (shared) was fine and the bed was comfortable. Temperature inside the room was good. It's in the border of the town so it is quiet.
We have a wonderful memory there! All the hotel staff are very warm-hearted and nice. The location is just in the middle of the town. The facilities are in good conditions.
The location was good, near everything you would need or want in Longyearbyen. The restaurant on-site and the pub were both good. The breakfast was very good.
