It was everything that one would expect from a Holiday Inn on the edge of town. Which is to say, an average commercial-style hotel that is slightly overpriced for the convenience of being close to the airport in advance of your early-morning departure, with respect to which it is very convenient that a number of taxis sit just outside waiting for you to stumble out at 0430. The staff were nice; the room was clean and bright; the TV of an excellent size for watching playoff hockey. There was a nice little pond next to the building around which to stroll, and perfectly-acceptable fast-ish food (pizza, Asian, sandwiches) within walking distance. Would I stay here for more than one night? Well, no. There are much nicer options in town. But, as a convenient final stop before boarding an early-morning flight, it got the job done just fine.
This historic St. John’s property features a full spa with a variety of treatments. An electric fireplace, mini fridge and free WiFi are provided in all guest rooms.

I grew up in St. John's and it is a great spot for a visit.
I grew up in St. John's and it is a great spot for a visit. The facilities for tourists have really increased over the last 20 years and there are a lot of great restaurants and shops for tourists to experience. The sites in a city that is 400 years old are quite varied and there is ready access to nature visiting sites as well within an hour of the city core.
Pack for pretty variable weather that trends to cooler and damper.

The city offers so much history and with a wonderful presentation at The Rooms. We had a fun screeched in ceremony at Christians with skipper Lukey. The view from signal Hill shows it all. Cape spear and Quidi Vidi can not be missed as well. Especially having lunch at the Mallard Cottage and an Iceberg at the brew company. The waterfront in St. John’s is very interesting and worth the walk.

We stayed at this hotel upon arriving at the airport at 2:30 am.
Shuttle was waiting by the time we got to the pick up point. Great service. Friendly reception. Sufficient breakfast offerings. Great staff in all areas. Perfect for our needs.
Unexpectedly, we spent a second night at the end of our trip when our flight to Toronto was cancelled. Again--great staff in all areas.

Loved the Harbour and the pedestrian mall.
Loved the Harbour and the pedestrian mall. Very hilly, I will definitely be in better shape before my next visit (the unexpected humidity was exhausting, but we made the best of that!)
Everything was close by, very easy to get around.

Best recommendation is: Take the Metro Bus from your hotel to the Pedestrian Plaza on Water Street for shopping and restaurants. It is closed off for the summer and the shopping is delightful. Lots of outdoor patios. We chose one of the outdoor pubs for fish and chips and a local brew. Perfect! Now walk up the stairs at the Courthouse and see the Jelly Bean Houses. Pier 10 is a great place to see the cruise ships docking. Just down the hill from Water Street, this is where the bus lets you off. Catch the Hop on Hop off for lots of sights - located outside of the Alt Hotel on Water Street.

St-John's and the whole Newfoundland is a very unique place.
St-John's and the whole Newfoundland is a very unique place. If you love nature , it is the place for you , yet it also has great restaurants and nightlife and the people there are amazingly friendly and proud of their culture and province . There is a lot of talent from there and the art is amazing .So they will go out of their way to make you feel welcome and bring you the best experience ever. !
Super homey and clean; hosts were so friendly and helpful with the luggage for the elderly (in their 80s) as they happened to be around when we arrived. Detail-oriented (i.e. the only place providing filtered water during our 11-day trip across the Newfoundland, which was much appreciated by those who would prefer not to drink the tap water). It's got everything anyone would need to stay very comfortablely, it's truly like going home.
The hotel is well located for access to downtown and the key city attractions. It meets all the expectations of a large, well respected hotel and hotel chain. The room is spacious and well laid out, with plenty of work space for the business traveler. It is a comfortable walk to the major city attractions and easily accessible parking. The breakfasts were delicious and the staff very welcoming and friendly.
This was the perfect ending to a wonderful trip around Newfoundland. The rooms were beautifully decorated, the staff was friendly, and the restaurant across the street was exceptional. It was all the little touches that made this stay extra special for us like the social lounge with complimentary beverages and the daily breakfast basket that was brought to our room. Would definitely stay here again.
Awesome location, with access to everything from a central downtown location. The staff was amazing, courteous, helpful, and provided excellent service. We were even greeted and checked in by the General Manager who met us at the parking garage, and was absolutely awesome in orienting us to our amazing room! Overall, this was an truly excellent stay and a highly recommended boutique hotel!
Murray Premises was a very welcome surprise as it is in the middle of the downtown area, with easy walking to most central pubs and restaurants. The room and bed were very comfortable, clean and spacious. The helpful staff made excellent recommendations for local dining. Parking and late night security are well thought out. Very good value for downtown St. John’s.
The property upheld to a high standard of cleanliness. The rooms, restaurant and every part of this hotel was clean. The staff was soo friendly and helpful throughout our stay and accommodating. This stay was the absolute best experience out of other hotels that I’ve stayed at here in Newfoundland.
Amazing stay at the Alt St. John Hotel. Would definitely recommend it to anyone who wants to explore St. John's. What a gem. Hot tip: There is a free shuttle right outside the hotel that takes you to Quidi Vidi. Great place for dinner or lunch and to explore this little fishing village.
Great downtown location. Excellent value for money. Quiet area but in a couple of minutes, easy walking to the hustle and bustle of the bars and restaurants. The hotel was modern and fresh. Clean and comfy. I seldom give a place full marks but the JAG deserves this. Well done!
Location of hotel, location of our room handy to the handicap parking, breakfast. Shuttle to and from the airport is a great guest friendly service. The fellow who picked us up on Thursday night was terrific. (Forgot his name). Front desk staff cheerful and courteous.
So much to like! Location couldn't be better, a few steps to downtown yet quiet with good parking. Beautiful rooms furnished in a historic style in keeping with the house. A large communal kitchen and dining room and to top it off a knowledgeable friendly host.
Quick responses from the staff via texts, comfortable bed, tv in the room, private bathroom in the room, laundry facilities in the location, and complimentary Newfoundland chocolate company’s chocolates
The entire staff was friendly and accommodating. The breakfast buffet was the best I've seen at a hotel in a long time, and the seafood chowder was amazing. We appreciate having clean towels each day.
It was a wonderful quaint boutique hotel. It was charming and well located downtown. Loved that there was dinning and a bar downstairs. Would stay again in a second!
Great restaurant and great food. The hotel is a perfect location for a walk downtown and the underground parking lot is very convenient. Thanks for having us.
