A good, historic property in a beautiful village. Very relaxed and friendly atmosphere. We were made to feel very welcome. If Hawkshead was easier to get to by public transport, we'd be back within weeks.

Amazing staff throughout the full hotel couldn’t do enough for you .My husband had heartburn and couldn’t enjoy his meal a lovely man from the bar fetched him some rennies from his room and a glass of milk .Views from the terrace amazing beautiful spa area .We had the Windermere suite which was exceptional so used the hot tub most of the time . Yes breakfast was only continental but was enough to fill you and you could pay if you wanted full english .Meal in restaurant was lovely and they had even gone to the trouble of decorating my table for my birthday. Overall an amazing stay and can’t wait to return .

Our "go to" place in the village has always been the Kings...
Our "go to" place in the village has always been the Kings Arms Pub. Sadly the pub is currently closed for renovations and will not be open again until 2025. Without this pub, the village feels like it has list its heart. Other pubs are available of course, but none have the feel of The Kings Arms. The village is otherwise a great centre for surrounding activities. It is very serene in the evenings when the bulk of visitors have gone home. It's a shame that the village economy does not seem able to support a good quality walking shop. The current outlets in the village really cater for the low to mid-range mass market.
For dining, the breakfasts at PoppiRed are exceptional. For our evening meals we used PoppiRed and The Red Lion. Both were very good.

Love Hawkshead.
Love Hawkshead. A super little village, with some sweet shops and various places to eat & drink. Great location to get to just about anywhere in the Lake District within reasonable travel time, and plenty of nearby walking.

The one downside was the parking.
The one downside was the parking. Many of the properties don’t have onsight parking which means parking on the main car park when you are in the village. The charges have recently been changed so that you have to pay overnight as well as during the day. There are no discounts for parking for a few days/ week so the £8.50 charge a day can add up if you are staying a few days. Nice restaurant in the village - Poppi Red would recommend to anyone who enjoys good food. Good base for visiting Windermere, Bowness, Ambleside, Coniston.

A good place for lunch and an evening meal.
A good place for lunch and an evening meal. Interesting walks around the village and located v close to Tarn Howes and other really interesting places including those linked to Beatrix Potter.
Good food shops although the Co op is an essential and when it was unexpected closed caused some challenges for those at the camp site and cyclists passing through.

Hawkshead is a great place to stay in the Lakes although this visit only one of the four pubs had enough staff to offer evening meals. There are plenty of low level circular walks from the village and numerous places to stay to suit most pockets.
Special mention for food Is Poppi red which was excellent. The queens arms had nice food and friendly staff. The Sun in had live entertainment on Friday and Saturday night
Second year we have stayed for 7 nights at the Sun in Hawkshead. Breakfasts are fantastic, rooms exceptionally clean and comfortable, staff friendly and always helpful and attentive. Would definitely recommend this little gem of a place for a short or longer break. Walks and cycles from the hotel are ideal, hardly need to use the car.
Hawkshead is a busy little village with limited eating places, we booked ahead and had no problems, so would definitely recommend other visitors do the same.
We thought the manager Tom was exceptional. Worked tirelessly to ensure our comfort. There seems to be a problem in getting staff back into the industry for a variety of reasons. Tom, however, managed to draft in the help of his family. They catered for vegetarians, breakfast was super set us up for the day. The Red Lion was a great location for our stay. The place is so dog friendly too. Hope Tom stays! Other lovely pubs too, Sun Inn and Queens Head - staff all so friendly and helpful.
Cozy, charming inn with friendly staff and a great pub for dinner. They make sure to reserve a table for guests as the restaurant can fill up quickly. Very grateful that they have parking right outside as there is little to no street parking in Hawkshead. A wonderful Peter Rabbit gift shop full of all things Beatrix Potter is right around the corner, as is a lovely shop and cafe called HoneyPot. We all enjoyed exploring the town very much.
The hotel was wonderful. Beautiful and very quiet location with access right out of the front door and up over the hills( behind the church) with my dog. The room was immaculate and well stocked with tea, coffee and even juice in a small fridge! It was a bright, spacious and beautifully decorated room, with a couch and views out into Hawkshead The bed was comfortable and the shower was wonderful. I highly recommend the Hive.
A beautiful house with excellent hosts and delicious homemade breakfast. Lovely room with a comfortable bed and garden views. It's rare to find such a great boutique hotel that is also dog friendly, so that was a huge bonus. It was a pleasure to stay there and I would happily visit again. Thank you, Chris and Gillie for the wonderful hospitality.
Really good location in Hawkshead, great space inside and out. Friendly staff and the drinks were fantastic. Had a few G&Ts and they were made exceptionally well. Had a live singer on the Friday night too which was a nice surprise. Plus a roast hog on offer too as there wasn’t an offering of evening meal. Also breakfast was fantastic.
Great location in Hawkshead with On site parking.
We took Mr Bob our Border Collie. We had a friendly welcome .
We had a lovely evening meal and drinks. We missed the time for breakfast but owner insisted on cooking us a full English ( which we were really grateful for)
We would definitely stay there again- recomended.
Fabulous cottage with everything we needed for a stay in the Lake District. Great location for exploring the Windermere area and a fab local pub for evening meals. We had one very wet day but there were lots of board games and DVDs available to keep us entertained in the cosy cottage.
The convenience (walking distance) to the village and to all Lake District Attractions. Hawkshead is a lovely village, beautifully looked after, and a well kept secret as opposed to other Lake District villages or towns. People incredibly friendly and Mark and Emma wonderful hosts.
this is a beautiful property set in a wonderful location for touring the southern Lake District with many good walks within a few miles and some great restaurants and pubs close by. Chris is a fond of knowledge and was a great host at each delicious breakfast.
This was our second time staying at this charming Inn and won’t be our last. The rooms were clean, dinner was fab, and breakfast was rich. Every member of the staff were kind and helpful, and Hawkshead is simply gorgeous. Highly recommend!
Lovely quaint hotel in a perfect location. Staff were friendly and the breakfast was amazing! Room was very clean with lots of nice touches - pocket hand sanitiser great idea and much appreciated 👍🏻
Breakfast options were great! Dinner options were perfect- it's pretty busy in the Lake District for dinner bookings so knowing you have a table at the pub each evening is a relief
Fabulous location and a truly superb breakfast with quality sausages and bacon. Super king-size bed very comfortable. Wonderfully dog friendly and the host was excellent.
Very well equipped with all mod cons.Great lighting in the room. coffee machine. Dog friendly.
Amazing breakfast with excellent coffee for £10 per person.
