An excellent little hotel, we had a little difficulty finding it and a car parking place initially but once the very helpful staff had showed us the ropes we had no trouble at all! We certainly intend to return to the San Martino in future and stay for longer that just one night.

Once Italy’s 2nd largest city state, elegant Lucca remains an important town on any itinerary in beautiful Tuscany. Its instantly recognisable historic centre is completely surrounded by Renaissance-era walls which offer a leisurely ‘passeggiata’.
Tree-lined bastions overlook the surrounding modern town, but their low height means that the best photo opportunities of medieval Lucca are from Torre Guinigi. This tower topped with trees overlooks the rooftops below and lush mountains beyond.
The bell tower of San Frediano is even taller and stands back from the elaborate gold mosaic adorning the church’s façade. Equally interesting is Lucca Cathedral’s façade where every column is unique. The church of San Michele in Foro is on the site of the Roman forum, and the Domus Romana excavations are of a house from a similar era.
Roman amphitheatre remains also form foundation stones of the medieval houses, cafés and shops of oval-shaped Piazza Anfiteatro. More pavement restaurants line Piazza Napoleone, Lucca’s largest square, around the corner from San Giovanni church, home to a festival celebrating Puccini – the town’s most famous son. Unsurprisingly, music is a big thing here, and summer and winter festivals showcase genres other than just opera.
Booking.com’s range of Lucca accommodation includes apartments, B&Bs and 5-star hotels. Properties are available near the train station, and some include swimming pools and parking.

Great place to hire bikes, flat cycling around town and city walls. We
managed to cycle out to the hills south of Lucca and followed trails that were stunning. Great wildlife including Nightingales singing (April-May)

Lucca is a great small place for relaxing and enjoying the...
Lucca is a great small place for relaxing and enjoying the Italian way of life. It's got a lot of History and summer festivals, comics and cinema festivals too. That's why it's called 'La Cittã d'Arte' (The City of Art).
It's also a good basis/starting point in case you wanna visit other places in Tuscany. For example, Pisa is only about a 25-min train ride from Lucca, among others.
For a fresh made panini or burger, head to Porta Santa Maria (one of the big gates that give access to Lucca's old town) and find 'Chiosco Il Gatto Nero' - a panini/subs kiosk. 5 Euros will definitely get you a proper sandwich there!!!

Lucca is a very special place and the walled city even more special with Albergo San Martino being the ideal place to stay. The staff are as charming as the city and the comfortable well appointed rooms and the delicious breakfasts complimenting the whole experience. The architecture and townscape provide the environment for dining experiences like no other and ease of access from Pisa using the PisaMover and train from Pisa Central Railway Station couldn't be easier.

Serene country side, great place to relax.
Serene country side, great place to relax. So many things to do and see so coming back here each day was amazing. Lucca's walled city is very big, could spend at least 2 days walking through. The wall is so big it has a double lane road for what used to be for cars and is now used for exercise and the enjoyment of walking around the city. Location is close to Pisa, and also Cinque Terre. We actually drove to Santa Margherita and caught the ferry to Portofino for the day. 1.5hr drive but definitely worth it.

The booking.
The booking. Com information states it has a kettle and coffee making in the room. This is not correct. You have to go down stairs to a kitchen and make and carry back to your room. No tap or sink in the kitchen so you may need to take water from your room. We did not see any air-conditioning in our room. Which meant we had to leave the window open for fresh air.

If you have pets, small children, or difficulties walking on uneven, narrow streets with aggressive drivers, this is not a good option.
However, it is charming once you get to the center of the walled city. Shopping and food choices are excellent.
Eat at Pizza de Felipe. It’s a tiny spot with delicious pizza.
The Guinigi Tower is worth climbing but the woman at the desk has a terrible attitude and is quite rude. Ignore her surliness and enjoy the view!
The location was superb-about a 10 minute walk to everything. The room was very clean, it was the most spacious of accommodations we have had in Italy. Pictures do not do the space justice. The decor, linens, pillows and bed were five star and incredibly comfortable, fresh and new. The owner was very helpful and made the best cappuccino. The breakfast was delicious. Don’t let street view fool you, from the outside it is very basic and unassuming. The inside exceeded every expectation.
This is an excellent newly refurbished apartment within Old Town Lucca with views towards the walls. The apartment is large, very well equipped, and tastefully decorated. There were many added extras touches, for example, soaps, shampoo, dishwasher tablets, and tissues, which made our stay way better than expected. All the appliances are brand new. This apartment was by far the best we have stayed in during our 6 week tour of Italy. We highly recommend this wonderful apartment.
This was such a beautiful place. The unique design of each rom was outstanding. Of the four places we stayed at this was my favorite by far and the only one I'm reviewing. Comfortable and calm and beautiful. The breakfast was yummy. Check in and communication was outstanding. Cities in Italy are difficult to navigate with all the limited zones and narrow streets. The owner, Franca, was able to tell me how to get there properly and where to park securly. It was a big help.
This is a really great place to stay, very close to the walls of Lucca. A lovely old villa with large, high ceiling rooms decorated in a simple, modern, unique style. Very helpful and friendly staff (Thanks Francesco). A really good breakfast that can be eaten in the lovely garden if you wish. All this with parking also and at a really good price. If you like soulless, corporate hotels with no character of their own then don't stay here! Strongly recommended.
We had a wonderful stay in beautiful La Villa Tuia. Many thanks to Manuela and Monica for the warm welcome, comfortable and relaxing Azalea-room and delicious breakfast.
These cheerful powerladies used to run a much larger hotel on the Italian riviera together and just arrived in Lucca in June 2021 to open up this lovely boutique B&B. Lucky us! The service is totally on point and their sense of style immaculate.
Would definitely recommend. Great location too!
The location is perfect for those needing quiet at night and it offers easy access to Lucca's wonderful wall. The apartment is quite comfortable, clean, and two full baths with excellent water pressure were a rare bonus in our experience staying in Italy. Very good wi-fi and an elevator --another huge (and rare) advantage! Agnese welcomed us warmly and stayed to help us access wi-fi and answer all our questions.
this is a well-loved and well managed establishment in a great location, so easy to walk around Lucca from here. The hotel has safe, private parking that is reasonably priced. the room was very charming with custom frescos painted on the walls. Breakfast was very nice and the staff was very hospitable. It isn’t overly fancy, but was well appointed with everything we needed. We loved it.
Spacious comfortable room in quiet location. A boutique hotel with all the comforts. Close to centre and train and bus station.
All staff especially Fabrizio were fantastic and really helpful. Good people like these really enhance the travel experience.
Excellent breakfast served indoors or outdoors.
Lucca is a wonderful city and this lovely hotel made it perfect.
This hotel is inside the walled city of Lucca and is completely charming. The hotel manager was the best in our two weeks in Italy. We received recommendations on restaurants, a concert, where to rent bikes. All of the staff was helpful. The cook to order breakfast was delicious and delivered hot to the table. We would be pleased to stay again at a future trip.
The location was excellent, just outside the walls of Lucca. Convenient for those travelling by car, which we were. It was really well located for accessing the city centre attractions of Lucca. The availability of free bikes at the Hotel was a real bonus, giving us the opportunity to cycle a circuit of the walls and the city within the walls.
The small hotel is like a Villa in one of 'the secret gardens of Lucca' in the close hills south of town. You will find a wonderful new swimming pool in this garden. Breakfast is excellent and staff extremely frindly. Mattress perfect, firm but comfortable, in no way saggy. By car you can reach the old town of Lucca in a few minutes.
The Location : Lucca is a must see and largely unnoticed small city in Tuscany , its walled , flat sophisticated and utterly charming . The Hotel is well located to explore the Historical Center . The Room were well appointed and very nicely decorated . Hauling 4 suitcases up the narrow stairs was no fun .
The service at Palazzo Alexander is excellent, very friendly and very efficient. The staff are always welcoming and attentive to the guests' needs. The breakfast is one of the best I have encountered in Italy and it was a pleasure to return and see that the hotel excellent standards are being maintained
We loved everything.
Location - fantastic. Close to everything. Lucca, charming town and close to everything in Tuscany.
Apartment extremely clean and top notch.
Livio - the best host in Italy!
We truly felt like home at Livio's place.
This is the place to be if you want to explore Tuscany.
We had a wonderful stay due to the exceptional friendliness and helpfulness of the proprietress Celeste, her warm welcome of our canine companion Bella, the quality of the room and the best breakfast we have ever had in Italy.
This is 5* B&B.
Adorable decor! Very comfortable beds, probably the comfiest we experienced during our time in Italy. Loved the location of the hotel as well. Highly recommend renting bikes for an hour or two and riding round the city medieval wall!
Location was great and the staff was very helpful with directions(driving in and out of the city was not easy). Because I was in Italy for 3 weeks, I needed to ship some items home. The staff was so helpful!
Great location, inside the walls of the beautiful city of Lucca. Roberto, the manager, was so kind and helpful, and we had the option to cook which was very comfortable.
The apparent was big and pleasant.
Nice terraced garden for a possible breakfast with homemade jam.
Good value for the price.
We had a bathroom for the 4 of us.
Small family hotel flair and very close to the old town of Lucca.
