In a lovely spot overlooking the ferry at Armadale. The place is ideal for those who want something just a little more adventurous. Although it had rained and the ground was damp, it stayed dry while we were there; heavy rain would certainly change the experience. Ludwig was very helpful and efficient.

Gorgeous part of the Highlands with good transport links !

Gorgeous part of the Highlands with good transport links ! Ferries and Trains ! The train journey is spectacular and worth every Penny and minute of the 5 hours from Glasgow or 2 hours plus from Fort William … I’m not a train spotter by any means or a Harry Potter fan but this journey as always been on my travel bucket list and did not disappoint! Good bar / restaurant … great value great food at the top of the hill and friendly locals !! Be aware as you’d expect not a lot open in the depths of winter!! But enough and how I personally like it !!

The scenery was breathtaking, locals so friendly and helpful. Only downside several places were closed due to staff shortages. Hotel was fantastic but the staff, the two Fiona's and Pawel were wonderful, above and beyond helpful

Mallaig is at its heart an old fishing town which has seen that part of its self-image eroded by the economics of fisheries across the land. Meanwhile it has become popular because of the steam railway and Harry Potter. Though this has improved the economy it feels like the place begrudges this new found dimension and would prefer to revert to its quieter fish-focussed past. Some of the restaurants feel like they are profiteering - £11 for 4 tiny pieces of salt and pepper squid slapped on the table is indicative. Overpriced dishes and underwhelming service. Is it me or do the staff in the hostelries and shops project an air that says they've had enough and want to scuttle off for their own vacation? They need to decide to up their game or move over for someone with more stamina, energy and understanding of customer service. Not somewhere for which I will hold fond memories. The exception to all this is the host of the pod who was bright and cheerful and could not be more helpful.

    Plenty of places to eat.

Plenty of places to eat. Mallaig gets busy when the steam train(think Harry Potter) from Fort William arrives. Surprisingly, many shops were closed on Saturday morning. Great smoked fish and shellfish from Andy Race fish merchant, but shop not open on Saturday. Ferry trips to Eigg, Rum, Skye and Knoydart(loch Nevis)

The location of The Steam Inn is great, right in the heart of Mallaig and only 100m from the very picturesque harbour. The staff are warm and friendly and work hard to please their guests. The seafood on the menu is FANTASTIC. Staying for 6 nights we did not make it fully through the menu. Every dish was prepared and presented to our delight. We cannot complement The Steam Inn enough. We will certainly be back.

Sharon was a pleasure, a great host that couldn't do enough for us. If you're sailing to or from Mallaig you couldn't be any closer to the ferry. Lovely ice cream in the shop below the accommodation and a lovely bakery over the road. The accommodation even has a little kitchen with a cooker and fridge etc that you are welcome to use should you wish to.

Perfect base to use the car ferry to Skye. 45 pounds round trip for family of 4 and mid-size SUV. Apartment is 2 minutes from ferry terminal. Accommodation is comfortable and clean on a quiet street. Equipped to self cater although we did not.. They have added a hanging rack to dry laundry if you need to use their washing machine.

Great location in Mallaig. Rooms were clean and attractively presented with en suite shower and toilet. It was an old hotel so had no lift, but the stairs were manageable. Dinner in the bar was very pleasant and the staff went out of their way to provide a hot breakfast at 8 am so that we could catch the ferry to Skye.

We loved how comfortable and cosy the glamping pod was - we came to Mallaig for hiking and running, etc., so it was great to come back to a quiet, beautiful and warm pod (with a stunning view!) in the evenings, to rest up for the rest of the trip.
