Hotel Fabrica do Chocolate, hotel in Viana do Castelo

Featuring free WiFi access available throughout, Hotel Fabrica do Chocolate offers rooms in Viana do Castelo, a 6-minute walk from the Lima River.

Pretty much everything. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Having arrived at 11.30am, we were able to drop off our rucksacks and then to check in a little early. The hotel is small, has 18 rooms, and has a funky style themed around chocolate. Our room wasn't huge but it was well equipped, comfy bed, beautiful bedlinen, good shower, tea and coffee making facilities and a big fridge. Breakfast was exceptional. Served to us and with an eat as much as you want offer. A good range of fruit, breads, pastries, bacon, eggs, cold meats and cheeses. There's also a free welcome drink of your choice and free entry into the chocolate museum, which is interesting. You even get to make a chocolate bar! Viana de Costelo is a lovely town, worth a visit.

    Gorgeous city by the sea.

Gorgeous city by the sea. Beautiful blend of the old and the new, from a bridge designed by Gustave Eiffel to a modern shopping plaza in the centre of town near the main train station. A definite Parisian feel with lots of colorful sidewalk cafes and shops along clean, tree lined streets. I highly recommend making this a stop on your tour of Northern Portugal.

Viano do Castelo has a nice maritime feel to it with nearby beaches, historic old city center, many good restaurants, and sits below the amazing Santa Luzia Cathedral. One must visit the Cathedral and if daring go up to the top of the Cathedral (mix of elevator and then steps) for the best 360 degree views of the region, ocean and land.

I loved everything about Viana do Castelo.

I loved everything about Viana do Castelo. It was New Year's Eve and the atmosphere was incredible. Definitely one of the best nights of my life! The people, the decorations, the lights and although a lot of fun was being had, it just felt so safe and welcoming! The next morning the streets were spotless, everyone wishing you a Happy New Year and it was all in all just perfect. I'll definitely be coming back. In fact I'd love to live there!

Lovely town to stroll around with lots of interesting buildings/architecture, nice boutiques and specialist shops and a good mix of places to eat. If we had stayed longer it would have been worth having a car but for 4 nights it was fine without. (Hotel has a car park)

I really enjoyed staying in your beautiful apartment. It is so lovingly prepared, colors, materials and the design of the room are simply outstanding. As an architect, I appreciated the quality of craftmanship and very high-quality equipment. Such lovingly designed accommodations are very rare. In addition, there is the very friendly welcome and the perfect location in the center of the old town of Viana do Castelo. A big thank you for allowing me to be your guest. Best whishes Peter

The breakfast was excellent and the location was unbelievably picturesque, not to mention conveniently close to everything a person visiting could need. I nedded to shelter myself from the rain on my last day in Viana do Castelo and, even though I had checked out, the staff not only let me leave my luggage there in my attempt to walk about the city, but also let me stay a while until the weather got better. The weather didn't improve but I was welcome in the hotel, regardless!

What a wonderful place to arrive at after a long, rainy day on the Camino. It was so clean, comfortable and quiet, it was the best sleep I've had since arriving in Portugal. The lady that welcomed me on arrival was lovely and spoilt me for breakfast in the morning. Cafe Catete was just down the road and the very kind South African lady served simple, tasty, cheap food. It was a miserable January day and I was alone there but it was perfect. Thanks!

We were blown away with this hotel. A view like I have never seen before out of our windows. The bed was very comfortable with very nice linens. The room was large and beautifully decorated in a traditional style. The entire hotel was quite beautiful. The breakfast was a beautiful, large buffet with huge flower arrangements and Linens on the tables. And after a long day we were happy to have very nice dinners there. I did not want to leave!

Spacious, well-furnished and well-equipped accommodation in a picturesque setting. Very friendly hosts. One could easily spend a few weeks just sitting out in the huge yard enjoying the beautiful scenery and walking along the nearby beaches. Very convenient to explore the entire northwestern part of Portugal (much better, in my opinion, than staying in Porto or its immediate vicinity).

Very impressive house with a large and tastefully decorated room in an unbeatable location right on the main square. Rami was lovely and told us about the two best restaurants in town. The kitchen was very well equipped and the included breakfast was filling and tasty, with a large living/dining room overlooking the town square. The best place we stayed at in Portugal!

A perfect location next to the train station with a magnificent view of the basilica from our room. Hotel is almost like a museum with artifacts scattered throughout the building. Swimming pool. Lounge areas and a great burger and craft beer restaurant attached. Breakfast was very good. Staff was very helpful especially the day manager.

Do not walk, but run to book this place!! It was a beautiful mix of boutique hotel and feeling like you were staying in the comfort of someone’s home. The owners were so kind, patient, and helpful. The place was immaculate! I wish I could’ve stayed here longer! This is easily accessible on one of the Camino routes.
