FAQs about hotels in Glasgow

Fun-Loving and Forward Thinking

Scotland’s largest city, Glasgow combines Victorian architecture and a vibrant arts scene. A former European City of Culture, it is home to many national organisations including the Scottish Ballet and the National Theatre of Scotland. The museums are also world class. Not to be missed are the futuristic-looking Glasgow Science Centre and the eclectic exhibits at the Kelvingrove.

Lined with Georgian buildings, George Square is the city’s focal point and the spot for Glasgow Hogmanay celebrations. Fanning out from here are streets housing venues for the city’s main love: music. From classical concerts to up-and-coming bands, every taste is catered for.

As host of the 2014 Commonwealth Games, Glasgow is also a city of sport. Scotland’s 2 most iconic football clubs - Celtic and Rangers - are based here, as is the national football stadium Hampden Park. The Scottish Football Museum is also an excellent walk through the beautiful game.

Last but not least is the shopping in Glasgow. Shopping centres cover everything from high street brands to international designers. So when you fly into Glasgow Airport, make sure you’ve left enough space in your bags!

It is such a friendly city with a very comprehensive spread of International cuisine. Great Scotch Whisky Bars where the bar staff will tell you all you need to know about Scotch and assist you with purchase of whiskies that are right for you. Some of the historical architecture is stunning and the story of the Clyde along the banks of that River are fascinating. Clydeside Distillery not only does a Whisky Tour but as you walk round you can embrace the history and story of world class shipbuilding on the River over times ago. The Art Gallery and Museum is a wonderful couple of hours of art and history.

Glasgow is a lovely city to walk around and get lost in.

Glasgow is a lovely city to walk around and get lost in. The people are just lovely, witty and friendly - happy to help you with directions and advice. We did the Yellow Hop on bus tour to get a look around the city, even though one local advised us to buy and all day pass on the ordinary bus instead. We had a quick bite in Molly Malone's at the top of Hope Street, and were surprised and impressed by the quality of the food. For us, no visit to Glasgow is complete without a wee dram in The Pot Still on Hope Street, a cosy whisky bar. We joined The Derry Boat walking tour on Sunday morning and really enjoyed a couple of hours wandering about the city.

Glasgow is a great city and very different from Edinburgh (...

Glasgow is a great city and very different from Edinburgh (which is also great). Edinburgh is more historical and "proper" while Glasgow has a more relaxed vibe. It is the largest city in Scotland and its roots are industrial. But you'll find a lot of free cultural museums and venues to go to. An impromptu celidh group might play in a local pub (Drum and Monkey...great food and beer!) and musicians are top notch. Look for large outdoor art installations on the sides of buildings. There was so much to see and we couldn't see and do everything in 4 days. Easy train and bus ride over to Falkirk to see the Kelpies. Kelvingrove Museum is free and fabulous. Take a bus around town to see the River Clyde and shipbuilding area. Easy walking and two large train stations are near each other to take you out of town.

Very lovely city, very historical and full of lots to see and do.Tall buildings, beautiful and picturesque, and very excellent transport links to other parts of Scotland.Very active, thriving, and buzzing city. If you are into Fish and chips, try Blue Lagoon, very tasty fish and chips and reasonably priced. Of course, there are so many places you can eat, you are spoilt for choice according to your palate.

We stayed here before my October graduation in 2024. We loved the ease of check-in, balcony room, complimentary lounge bar and roof top restaurant. The staff were very pleasant and friendly. The close proximity to the Glasgow Concert Hall made this hotel the perfect place to stay for the weekend. Waxy O'Connor's can be accessed via an in-hotel 'secret' door to live music there every night. The city centre location is brilliant with loads of bars and restaurants around every corner.
