Featuring half-timbered buildings, almost complete city walls and a wealth of Roman heritage, beautiful Chester sits by the border with Wales.
The southernmost gate of the walls overlooks the River Dee, and the road leading north is one of 4 in the city to follow the original Roman roads. To the east, the Roman Gardens include a reconstructed underfloor heating system.
Nearby Grosvenor Park has remains of a stone Roman amphitheatre, thought to have been built on the world’s largest wooden amphitheatre at the time. Over the river in the suburb of Handbridge is a 2nd-century shrine to Minerva, and an informative display in the Grosvenor Museum provides the background to all this heritage.
In the west is Chester Racecourse and nearby are the medieval castle remains. More medieval buildings line the cobbled city centre streets. Some of these are The Rows, black-and-white timbered buildings housing 2 levels of shops. Other shopping options are the indoor market by the cathedral, and the Cheshire Oaks Outlet Village in Ellesmere Port to the north. The road out there passes Chester Zoo, one of the UK’s best zoos.
Booking.com’s range of Chester accommodation includes hotels with swimming pools, guest houses by the train station and B&Bs with parking near Chester Airport.

Chester is a great town for wandering, the City walls walk was a great introduction to the town and it is worth doing this soon after you arrive to get a good perspective of the town. The Grosvenor Museum was an unexpected gem and ideal for a wet morning

The city is vegan friendly, as well as the people being friendly. All historic sites are within walking distance, there is a sightseeing bus that does a tour with added river cruise as part of the price. Chester is still being excavated due to new architectural findings.
The Visitor centre is well located, near to the cathedral, and the staff are very helpful.
There are many places to eat, some restaurant chains and many local businesses.

I was here for a planned weekend singing the services in the Cathedral. I loved the atmosphere of the city, the rows had so much character. The Cathedral was amazing and walking the walls was great. We were lucky enough to go into the castle whish was interesting and really informative. I wanted to see more and I want to come back!
Stone Villa, Chester was situated in a small cul-de-sac off Hoole Road. It was quite hidden from the main road and this added to the quietness of the Villa. The room was on the ground floor, which we had requested as we both have arthritis and this causes mobility problems. The room was lovely; compact; clean and well decorated. Their breakfast menu was extensive and the food was delicious; we can recommend scramble egg on toasted sour bread with salmon. Their homemade yoghurt is also delicious. All staff were friendly and helpful.
An excellent, quiet boutique hotel with great facilities within walking distance of Chester city centre, where the hosts are very welcoming, friendly and professional. Private parking was an added bonus too. A nice personal touch of a cuppa and home made cake on arrival! Luxurious room and very comfortable bed. Amazing wonderful breakfast with a great choice and using quality ingredients. 10/10 for us for everything. Thank you Dave and Kirsty for a lovely stay, we will be returning.
Warm welcome by reception staff and always helpful.
Breakfast was very good and in the circumstances (covid restrictions) was enough choice. Staff were all very welcoming and friendly.
Location was excellent with only a short 5 - 8 minute walk to the centre of Chester and its attractions. Car parking opposite hotel and easy to find.
Excellent facilities, iron, hairdryer, kettle - coffee & tea, A FRIDGE(!) and TV. All you would need for a stay. The bed was comfortable. The staff were all great and we stayed for breakfast which was excellent value for money. The best stay we have had in the 5 hotels we've tried in Chester, we will definitely go back.
We love this hotel we try and come when possible every thing is spot on all staff go out of your way to be so helpful it was our 1st wedding anniversary so helpful from reception to bar staff breakfast always good rooms very clean nothing to fault so thanks we be back
Friendly and helpful staff. On my arrival my booking via Booking.com was not on their system. Next time best to book direct. However, fortunately for me they managed to give me a room. Perfect location for Chester city centre with free parking. Good breakfast.
The hotel has a fantastic location in the center core of Chester. It's on a busy street, yet the rooms are virtually silent, with great soundproofing. Also the air conditioning worked wonderfully as we were there in a heat wave.
Excellent family run hotel a short walk from Chester city centre, the staff are fantastic very friendly and attentive. The hotel lounge and dining room look to be recently renovated.
Excellent location in the Chester Rows in the heart of the old town. Very well organised apartment, everything worked superbly. Two little glitches were put right straight away.
The hotel is clean , tidy and very well staffed, even though it was packed.
The location could not be any better , right in the heart of Chester city centre.
