Two days was plenty in Colombo to explore the city.
Two days was plenty in Colombo to explore the city. Use the pick me app to get value for money with the tuk tuks as they do try to over charge by a lot. Thoroughly recommend Pettah Market, just to experience the bustle and noise of a true, working market and for the street food. It is easy to walk around - and near to there, the Old Town Hall is a lovely building and the iconic mosque has two sides to view. The Lotus Tower is worth going up for extraordinary views of the city and don't miss out on the independence memorial! The Gangaramaya Temple is amazing and well worth stopping for, but the less visited Seema Malaja temple, just around the corner, jutting out onto the lake is very peaceful. Try Seed cafe or Milk and Honey cafe for great juices and coffee.

I came specifically for the Colombo-Ella train ride, the mountains and the local culture and food…
The train ride n the mountains was absolutely worth it. And the locals were sweet. However, I was quite disappointed by food. Everywhere you go, there’s fried rice! Fried rice plus this, fried rice plus eggs, fried rice and that… You had to particularly ask for Sri Lankan food or the local curry. I went to a somewhat upmarket restaurant in Ella, ordered a simple vegetable and meat curry. It came out fried rice topped with two fried eggs :(

Improvements - in the restaurant area, coffee and tea making facilities to be a bit more secure and spacious. To cater more for western tastes as opposed to locals - ie more cereals and yogurts. At time a bit too tight for numbers.
Pay more attention to health and safety around the tea/coffee area. Milk gets very hot, better signs to indicate this.
When floors are being mopped, to use wet floor sign so people are aware.

Colombo is now getting better after a recession few years...
Colombo is now getting better after a recession few years back. They are on a speedy recovery. There are lots of places you can visit for sightseeing. If you are going on a business trip, Colombo is an ideal space for staying as they have all the good locations (especially importers and huge markets). Better book private hire through a car company, it's way cheaper if you want to explore the city. Walking is also a good option.
I had one of my best stays at the Marino Beach hotel. I have chosen this place for my last day in Sri Lanka before I took my flight back home. I really could relaxe and chill here so I was extremlyngood rested for the flight. I enjoyed the city tour and especially the roof terrase with the pool. I ate here one of the best food for reaonable price. Especially great thanks to Garden Bar where the waiters Gihan and Anuka serviced me food and drinks and made my final hours in Sri Lanka unforgetable.
After travelling around Sri Lanka for three weeks and staying in hostels, this place was like heaven on earth. The room and view was beautiful, the rooftop bar & pool was awesome…But the best thing about the hotel is definitely their on-call Doctor. I had been bitten by something and had an very bad infection in my leg - not only was the doctor the nicest man ever, but he also had me fit to fly and sent me home with everything I needed. Can’t recommend this place enough!
This hotel felt like an oasis of calm. It was the best hotel we stayed in during our stay in Sri Lanka. The room was small but spotlessly clean, and the bathroom was fab.
There were no windows, but this added to the peace, stopped the mosquitos & made it cooler.
There was a safe and somewhere to hang clothes!
Very close to restaurants and bars.
The staff were happy to store our luggage as we arrived too early to check in.
We definitely recommend this hotel.
We visited Colombo for the last two nights of our journey to Sri Lanka and C1 was a good choice in the midrange sector. It is a mix of hotel and hostel, located in a quiet side street of the historic fort area. Location is excellent, all sights of fort are close by and it’s just a short walk to the main railway station and the very busy Pettah business district. Our hotel room was spacious, staff was friendly, we did not have breakfast at the hotel.
Beautiful boutique hotel, lovely spacious rooms, amazing bathroom and private terrace/garden. Beautifully decorated. The staff are the best!! Arun and the team even helped us out with returning a roomkey to a previous hotel. We had to leave for the airport on New Years Eve and they organized early dinner on our private terrace and waited for us to leave with the taxi before closing up for New Year celebration. Really amazing service
We chose this hotel for the last night of our stay as, generally, we found the hotel standards in Sri Lanka quite poor, and wanted somewhere nice. The hotel is in a good location. It is situated in a shopping mall featuring luxury brand shops and eateries. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The gym and swimming pool are nice. The bathrooms are nice and we had a good view of the sea from our room.
What a wonderful oasis of calm and old fashioned grandeur in a beautiful location. We loved everything about this excellent hotel. The staff were warm and welcoming, with every possible need anticipated in advance. The Sri Lankan breakfasts and an incredible Thali for diner remain the best food we have had so far in Sri Lanka. We look forward to a return visit, hopefully in the not too distant future!
We stayed at Granbell for 1 night and I liked pretty much everything in this hotel. It is a nice, modern hotel in Colombo. The facilities and room was super comfortable and nice, the staff was good and helpful. The location was great as our window has a cool view to the ocean and we could sit down and look at the ocean from 21-th floor.
The most friendly and professional staff in Colombo. New and very clean boutique hotel. Excellent size room and comfortable bed. Very safe. In a non-touristy part of town, and close to stores, shops, restaurants, etc. Rooftop pool is clean and refreshing. Nice on-site restaurant for meals. Would 100% stay there again.
The Beehive hotel was excellent for my last minute stay in Colombo. I received a nice room with AC and a balcony. The prices are very reasonable given how expensive other hotels are in this area. Highly recommend them if you are looking for a reasonable price hotel room in Colombo city center.
From start to the finish ,I felt so welcome . My host collected me from the airport and even drove to the best restaurant on the beach for my first experience in columbo .even though I didn't stay long in colombo ,I was certainly very welcomed by my host and his beautiful family 😊
I loved it here!!!! After walking through the crazy loud streets of Colombo, this hotel felt like a spa. It is so calm in their garden and the yoga class I had at the hotel really was the best. Definitely coming back back before I head to the airport.
The location is excellent for business travel. Good restaurants, bars, coffee shops, beach front, shopping all at a walking distance.Easy to get a tuk tuk or taxi to explore Colombo. The Ministry of Crab is right opposite this Hotel!
The hotel has an incredible pool which is a lovely oasis in busy Colombo, and the hotel restaurant is actually very good - breakfast was a delicious buffet of both local Sri Lankan food and western options. Room was comfortable.
Thos was second stay at C1 Colombo Fort. Spacious, comfortable dorms. Immaculate common areas with a hotel vibe. Friendly, helpful staff. Well situated within walking distance to train station, and a range of restaurants.
Pool is fantastic, big and clean. Rooms are also good. Very comfortable hotel, friendly staff. Beautiful large yard with sea access. I was in Sri Lanka for 20 days, changed 8 hotels, this one is absolutely the best.
New hotel with good facilities and comfortable rooms. The staff are friendly and helpful.
The hotel is quiet and appropriate for a work visit. Strongly recommend if you are visiting Colombo for business or work.
the best hotel at colombo, i strongly suggests to choose if you’re looking for properly cleaned room, best services, lowest price and perfect breakfast.
