A Gem of Fashion
As the world’s largest diamond-cutting city, Antwerp (Anvers in French) is naturally affluent. It comes as no surprise then that fashion is also of utmost importance, so the shopping here is excellent. It may not be the cheapest place, but the quality certainly matches the price.
Another big business in Antwerp is the port, one of Europe’s largest. Take a cruise around to admire its scale. The Scheldt River leads from the port into the city, and on its banks are a handful of interesting museums and Het Steen, a medieval castle built to protect the city against Viking invasions.
A few streets back is the Grote Markt, a beautiful square flanked by the grand town hall and 16th-century guildhouses – a typically Belgian scene. Behind this is UNESCO World Heritage-listed Antwerp Cathedral, whose asymmetrical towers look down over Groenplaats, a tranquil square filled with pavement cafes. Belgian beer is legendary and the local brew is De Koninck, which packs quite a punch.
In the south of the city is the most unusual sight – Wilrijk’s huge Jain Temple, one of the largest outside India. A little further east is Antwerp Airport, efficiently connected by public transport to the Antwerp hotels, guest houses and apartments that are available on Booking.com.

Antwerp has lots to offer. Museums, interesting neighborhoods, pedestrian streets, and a huge number of restaurants/bars/cafes. Take the walking/cycling tunnel under the river - great experience and a lovely walk along the left bank. If you are in Antwerp on Saturday or Sunday, I highly recommend the Handelsbeurs - stunning architecture and interesting history.

If you're flying into Antwerp, I highly recommend paying a visit to a restaurant located approximately a 15-minute walk from the airport called "Jardin Public". From there, you can catch a tram to the Central Station. In my opinion, the highlights of the trip were definitely the Central Station and the Central Square. Getting around Antwerp is fairly easy, but you also have the option to rent bicycles or use electric scooters. For dinner, we opted for The Eleventh Commandment / Elfde Gebod and were impressed by the delicious food and speedy service. I would have loved to extend my stay if possible; perhaps a minimum of a 3-day trip would be ideal. On the return journey to the airport, I opted to take an Uber for convenience.

Female are sleeping in cheap but comfortable 4-beds rooms while male can rent a room with bathroom and king bed more expensive but still reasonable. People from outside are not allowed in unless they check-in. Nice bar with very good beers and a pool & dart room with can be used as well as kitchen and garden. Bed was pretty comfortable, there was a light, usable plug, and a shelf where I could put some of my belongings while I slept. There was one bathroom for eight girls but we managed not to overlap, and the shower, bathroom, and sink were separated so that we could each use whatever facility as needed. Wifi had no passcode, doors were easily opened with a key card.
