I'd never used a B'n'B before and we couldn't find accommodation in Taupo for the Supercars. I was pleasantly surprised. Very clean, comfortable and just right for one or two people. Host was lovely and prompt with any comms between us. Booking.com says 3 nights but we actually added another night (4 night stay).
Happy with our choice.

Turangi has many interesting outdoor activities, and it is in the central North Island with mountains, rivers, Lake Taupo nearby, but we were just passing through and for us it was a place to break the long journey, rather than a destination in itself.

It's a great stopover location say between Auckland and Wellington but it's hard to find good food and the prices e.g. food and petrol reflect a lack of true competition and a feeling "well, you've got little choice"

A comfortable apartment with great views over Lake Taupo.
A comfortable apartment with great views over Lake Taupo. We stayed two nights and used it as our base for doing the Tongariro Alpine Crossing, so it was perfect for that. Oreti Resort is about 14km from Turangi, so you definitely need a car for eating out etc.

We found plenty to do in our 3 day stay.
We found plenty to do in our 3 day stay. We popped up to Taupo and went to Orakei korako. Then to beautiful lake Rotopounamu and walked around that. And did the picturesque river walk. We hired a rental car so we could look around easily. We could have easily filled in a whole week.

Central to some wonderful activities such as great rafting, the walk Tongariro crossing, Ruapehu. 'Up market' accommodation is very limited but if you can get into the Tongariro Lodge, it is excellent. Worth the extra cost. The locals are helpful and the town has a nice relaxed non-touristy feel; however avoid leaving your car parked overnight on a street. Shopping, apart from Groceries is limited.

Turangi is a lovely little town.
Turangi is a lovely little town. Not much going on in the actual town itself but has everything you need in terms of supermarkets etc. and easy access to the Tongariro Crossing and lots of other beautiful walks nearby. Recommend the Tongariro River Walk and Lake Rotopounamu walk too. Lovely swimming spots! I stayed for 4 nights in the end which was great. Recommend staying here! And also use Panda Shuttles to get to the Tongariro crossing or anywhere in the local area. Stay at Riverstone Lodge if you can!
We had a good stay. The staff was very responsive. We had to call them because we needed support in opening the door and they arrived immediately. They also suggested us some amazing places to visit. There is parking available beside the lodge. The common areas and our room were clean, and the bed was comfortable. You can make yourself a tea or coffee in the kitchen. Because it was Christmas time, the staff prepared a box full of sweets for everyone to share.
The spacious unit was lovely and clean.Everything you need in the kitchen and the oven elements and microwave worked well.Water pressure was very good. The TV was a good size with limited channels. The motel is a few minutes from Turangi
township. The little table and chairs on balcony were nice to sit in the sun to read or have a meal. There is a brunch bar and stools. The pillows were comfortable.

The location was great, very close to an excellent restaurant called the Hare and Copper, the grounds were beautiful and we really enjoyed the tennis court. The location was convenient, quiet; it is a really lovely property.
The heating system in the lodge was excellent, and it warmed up the place quickly on frisky mornings. The staff was very helpful with activities and only recommended great ones.
We arrived at the Tokaanu Lodge Motel in a driving rainstorm. Although the weather was dreadful, our two day stay here was excellent. The room, though dated, was clean and well-equipped. The owners were both warm and friendly and had some really good recommendations for our upcoming visit to the South Island. We really enjoyed our stay here. The hot pools were an added bonus.
You stay under shady trees with marvelous bird song. Pipiwhararoa (shining cuckoos) sang to me as I sat on my deck having a cup of tea. You can walk along the Tongariro River just through the back gate and watch the anglers casting for trout. This is my absolute favourite motel in New Zealand.
Our stay at Judges Pool Motel was appreciated, as it was situated in a quiet part of Turangi, and the room was clean and comfortable. We appreciated being able to go walking along the leafy river trail in the evening, after a long drive from the city. The Manager was informative and helpful.
The tranquility of Oreti is almost overwhelming. Our unit was perfectly suited for our needs, and we enjoyed every minute. The grounds look great, and the views of Lake Taupo are top-notch. The kitchen was well equipped to enable us to cook dinners in. Heartily recommend this property!
Absolute value for money. Definitely a better option compared to other motels in the area. A VERY short walk to the shops. The accomodation had everything you would ever need for a short stay.
Sarah was the best host.
Definitely recommend this accomodation 👍
been coming here for years on fishing trips and only stay elsewhere if the Lodge is already full. Facilities are excellent and location is perfect with the river outside the back gate and an excellent tackle/shop outside the front.
The apartment was quite clean, spacious and comfortable. The motel is close to Turangi shopping area. The TV reception was good this time with free view channels. The shower was very good.Adequate facilities in kitchen for cooking.
Tokaanu lodge is best by far, comfortable, friendly, easy to find. Great location. Owners are awesome, best part about lodge is the owners and being pet friendly, going on holiday with our pet dog is the best.
I needed somewhere to pass the night as I drove north. I booked quite late on-line and arrived in Turangi after 9 pm. However, my booking had lodged and a room was ready for me.
Located just outside of the Turangi town center on the banks of the river. Fantastic location with immediate access to walking trails and just nearby the national park.
The simple luxury and peaceful ,beautiful surroundings. It was a cut above any accommodation we ve stayed in , in New Zealand. The genuine friendliness of the staff too .
