Set at the south-western tip of Y-shaped Lake Como, the town of Como offers wonderful views of the surrounding Alps. A funicular railway runs up to the village of Brunate from where you can see Switzerland on the opposite shore.
The peaceful location has long been a favourite with celebrities, but the town has been around since Roman times. In fact, 2 of its most famous sons – Pliny the Elder and Younger – are commemorated in statues on the façade of the 14th-century cathedral. The next door Broletto dates to the previous century, and even older are the remains of the medieval walls and Castello Baradello, sitting on a hill overlooking the town.
Much more modern in style is the Casa del Fascio, built during Mussolini’s rule. The streets between here and the waterfront are packed with shops, bars and restaurants, and Lake Como boat trips depart from the small marina.
The neighbouring park houses a temple-like museum about Alessandro Volta (another former resident), and around the shoreline is elegant Villa Olmo which looks across landscaped gardens to the water’s edge.
The Como accommodation on Booking.com includes luxury lakefront hotels, town centre B&Bs and cheap apartments near San Giovanni Train Station, which offers direct services to Milan.
Very pretty with plenty of place to eat. Interesting market. We found getting a bus around the lake and taking the ferry back worked best for us as the queue to buy ferry tickets can be quite long in Como.

Como is good for a centre to see the Southern part of the lake. The downside is it is very busy. Too many day trippers. The boats are crowded and long queues. They have also dug up most of the promenade at the moment which spoils the lakeside area. The bus is a good alternative to the ferry. Best to stay here a few days and then move on to Varenna, Lenno or Mennagio.

Stunning town in a beautiful part of Italy.
Stunning town in a beautiful part of Italy. Good transport links via Milan (land at Linate airport, then metro to Milano Centrale station, then train). The town itself is the main attraction, with great restaurants, and good shopping from groceries to fashion. Then you can visit the smaller towns of Lake Como by ferry or bus.

Try not to travel in peak season. Sooo many tourists!
Make sure you book ferry travel (for the lake) day before but be aware tickets are non refundable. Big cues at the ticket office...go early!!
Slow ferry outward bound is great with the fast ferry for return. Tickets are not inexpensive if travelling on a budget however well worth budgeting for! Como and the townships along the lake are beautiful!
Try to find places where the locals eat....in the back streets usually.
Como was our last stop after six weeks in Italy .... we were a little over visiting cathedrals etc however we really enjoyed site seeing and sitting in the local cafes people watching.

Lake Como was wonderful.
Lake Como was wonderful. Though we had rain for the three days we stayed, it was still lovely, and will return again, and stay at the
B&B Al Molo, Sant’Agostino. The owner, Stefano, was just wonderful.
The In Centro Luxury Rooms offered me the perfect stay in Como! The hotel is centrally located, but on a quieter street (no noise while sleeping, but very walkable!). Alessandro is an excellent host. He is very responsive to questions and provided us with flexibility during our stay. The rooms are very clean and well kept, with a nice balcony for an excellent view of the streets. I would gladly stay at this hotel when I return to Como and would highly recommend to friends and family.
The location of this property is very good. You come out of it and there are so many restaurants in 20 metre square and all of them very good.
This is 5 mins by cab from hotel to Railway station and 5 min walk to the ship pier.
It has a very good view of the lake como once you are out of the room. The room is spacious and very private.
The host is very friendly and super helpful. On our day of leaving due to strike there were no taxis and the host dropped us to station.
Amazing amazing room, basically on the lake, you can hear the waves crashing at night, absolutely glorious. Lovely hotel, great staff especially in the restaurant, food was delicious. The hotel is located just a little way out of town, enough to get out of the hustle and bustle of Como town but close enough to get in easily enough if you need to, we drove to Cernobbio for dinner one night which is a lovely place 5 mins down the road. Do not hesitate to book this hotel!
This is a private run hotel and the owner Kristina is an excellent host. She was very helpful and advised us on how to get around Lake Como. The bus stop is a few yards away and you can get a bus for 1.50 Euro to Como. The hotel itself is just a 10 minutes walk from Como Camerlata station. We had a family room, a bit tight for 4 adults but manageable. The room was cleaned in the morning, we stayed for 2 nights.
If you want to stay in a decent hotel with an affordable price around Lake Como, this is your place! If you are travelling with a car, I certainly recommend this hotel, since it offers free parking, which is not a common thing in Italy. The employees are super friendly and sincere. They prepared the room quite fast, given the fact that i wrote to them we would like to check-in a bit earlier then usual.
Breakfast was delicious, and the very remote location and rustic vibe with dogs and horses walking around freely was very soothing.
Staff was very nice.
Fairly close to Lake Como and the surrounding cities and great hiking options. But you will need a small car or a bike to get around. Even just to get up to the hotel since the way up there is a very narrow, very steep and bumpy road.
We were blown away with this lovely hotel. We were greeted by very friendly staff on arrival and were told that both of the rooms we had booked had been upgraded. Our daughters room had a spectacular view over the lake. The breakfast is served in the most magical room i have ever seen. We will definitely stay here again when we return to Lake Como
The place is absolutely amazing, it did exceed my expectations. The location is great, very well located in the center of Como, Italy, there are lots of restaurants, cafes, and shops around. The lake is just a few minutes away walking from the place as well. I really highly recommend this place and I am sure I do come back someday.
Super hotel with a great view of the lake. Breakfast choices were extensive and pleasantly situated. Staff were all friendly and helpful. Well located to ride the funicular, explore the sites and choose from an array of bars and restaurants. Easy access from the train station as we toured around Northern Italy and Switzerland.
Good location to either train station or lake side. Nice and helpful staffs. Our original room in La Corte Fiorita had a locker issue, Hotel voluntarily transferred us to Hetel Borgovico (under the same owner). Luciano and other staff members worked hard to help us, they made us a great stay experience in Como.
Location was wonderful, walkable everywhere in Como. Just a short walk to the ferry and train station and restaurants. The hotel owner was incredibly kind and helpful. There is a small elevator which is nice for when you are moving luggage. The rooms are clean and it’s a good value.
I just can't find the exact word to describe how amazing the staff of this hotel , they are very friendly and cheerful and gave me a very warm welcome.
Everything is well organized and smooth.
If I ever come back to Como I will definitely stay here again
The hotel itself is nice with good views over the lake. The rooms are clean and bright and there is parking immediately outside. The breakfast was OK, but with room for improvement. Its in a good location if you are passing through the Como region.
The location was in one of the main piazzas where there was a lot of activity, including live music and several restaurants and bars. The hotel was conveniently located within short walking distance of the Lake Como
Interior of building and rooms had true charm. Location in Medieval part of Como was lovely. Breakfast included, was beyond anything I ever experienced. Literally the perfect place to stay in a great part of Italy.
Hotel and staff were wonderful, breakfast was excellent so much choice. Rooftop bar and pool were great and distance to Lake Como was about 15 minute easy walk. A great place to stay. ❤️🇮🇹
Proximity to ferry is outstanding which makes it easy to get to different towns on Lake Como. The hotel is beautiful inside and out. Breakfasts are the best I’ve ever had. The staff is amazing.
The hotel was in a excellent location overlooking Lake Como. It is also just next to the furnicular stop to Brunate. Breakfast was simple yet fairly good with very attentive staff.
The location is very close to the water. There is a beautiful restaurant which is part of the hotel. Close to Como Lago train station and the ferry point in Como o tour the lake.
The property was a great location in Como around 15 minute walk from the centre. The food was great but the pool and jacuzzi were by far the best part about this hotel!
