Older hotel that’s pet friendly but difficult to find outside spot for dog to got to the bathroom. Expensive for what we got - tv didn’t work, could hear everything in our room… but in a good location to walk town and down by river.

A historic college town with a mining tradition that serves as the base camp for trips to the best national park in the world, has plenty of white snow, forest greenery, copper, and black taconite. I love it.

This is a wonderful area to spend a vacation.
This is a wonderful area to spend a vacation. Easy driving distance to pretty much everything in the area. We did a day trip to Copper Harbor and loved it. Coming back to Houghton as our base of operations was nice. A small area compared to where we live now but there was plenty to do. We had a nice walk around town.
I am originally from this area (Dollar Bay). It's always nice to come back and see what has changed and what hasn't. Almost everything for the 4th of July celebration was cancelled but that would have been like that anywhere.
Good restaurants, plenty of places to visit. Looking for a nice getaway that is quiet and full of nature? This area is it!

The area is beautiful! The lakes are beautiful.
The area is beautiful! The lakes are beautiful. There is rich history every where you go in this area. The mining towns are so interesting but a little pricy. There are mines off the beaten path that are just as interesting and national historical sites that give plenty of history at a lower cost. Usually visit in the summer or early fall. This time we stayed in the winter (Feb) and the winter festival had just occurred and the ice sculptures the college kids made along the roads and on campus were amazing! It is pretty far up north so the amenities are limited in town however there are food chain restaurants and a movie theater, a public library, a Walmart, Dollar Tree store and many tattoo shops. Churches are plenty assumably due to the diverse population at the turn of the century and the miners who came from everywhere. This is not a 'showy' vacation town however if you do some research on the area, you can do a lot of things in a few days. Calumet is a couple miles down the road as is Copper Harbor on Lake Superior. History rich - fulfilling place to visit if you do a little research prior. There are little towns along the way into the Keweenaw. (There are casinos within 45 minute drive and lots of outdoor adventures all year long.) Did I mention Mt Ripely Ski Hill?!!! Like a cherry on the top! A nice slow paced get away to help you get back in touch with life.

We love coming to Houghton once a year to attend the LSPR Road Rally Race that our son participates in. We always have enough time to enjoy visiting areas we love near Houghton (like Copper Harbor). We always have a great meal or two and time at the Ambassador Restaurant where the service is great!
Great location in town, within walking distance to everything and university. the rooms at +500 level are the best! we’ve stayed multiple times since on lower level and they’re still the motel rooms. the upper level rooms is more like a hotel, large and airy, comfortable and great view of the bridge! staff very nice and bed comfortable. one of the few locations that allow dogs.
Very Comfortable and spacious. Very well equipped with pans, dishes, coffee - Loved the location, only minutes out of Houghton. Beautiful view of the river from our "cabin" and very peaceful/quiet.
Updated, bright ,clean, comfortable and good location to the downtown area, restaurants and shopping. A good value compared to the older downtown properties.
