Ashikaga was a great place to visit, as everything was really interesting and nothing felt trivial. It had just the right amount of stuff. The famous flower gardens of course, but also the Bannoji temple, first school, and the surrounding hills/mountains (if you like hiking). It is really easy to get around the area as well.

Very quiet little town with beautiful historical objects - temples, museum, first in Japan school with possibility to check your knowledge, anyone can do the test sitting on tatami floor at the low table, with the view to Japanese garden. very nice historical streets. Perfect for those who are looking for a quiet historical Japan outside of busy city life. No need to use taxi to go to Asikaga park; train there goes not every 10 minutes, but will save you lots of money.
