Clean and with everything we needed for a one night stop. Easy to find. Food options on the same precinct. Boys loved dinner at the Tiki Bar which was pretty much next door. Great to have a small playground for kids to blow off a bit of steam after a long drive.

    I felt Cambrai felt safe and clean. Virtually all the bars and eateries were situated in a relatively small area. And everyone I spoke to in my schoolboy French seemed delighted to break into their much better English.

    It’s really easy to walk around and there are some nice...

    It’s really easy to walk around and there are some nice places to eat and drink. The Saturday indoor food market is great. The outdoor market has a food stall cooking paella, couscous and cassoulet at reasonable prices (if you have the means to reheat food). The eglise near the apartment is impressive even if you’re not religious. The city is also a good base from which to visit the Ardennes and (if you don’t mind driving) there is plenty of scope for exploring the region.

    We were in Cambrai to watch a sports event and stayed 2...

    We were in Cambrai to watch a sports event and stayed 2 nights. We were very lucky to see the Olympic Torch relay at the same time. The city is clean, people are friendly and most places had someone who could speak English to assist us. I would probably not go to Cambrai just for the sake of it, but i loved being there for the event and the hockey.

    Plenty of places to visit to fill a whole day sightseeing.

    Plenty of places to visit to fill a whole day sightseeing. A tour of the Citadel underground tunnels recommended. Good selection of restaurants and bars available. Lani Thai and Le Chatleureux (cat cafe) good for vegetarians.

    came to watch the cobbled stage of the tour de france, which passed nearby. didn't have much in the way of expectations of cambrai but very pleasantly surprised, very elegant and attractive buildings and some quirky bars and bustling restaurants.

    If you are interested in WW1 history then Cambrai makes a...

    If you are interested in WW1 history then Cambrai makes a good base. We had no such interest and I didn't see anything in Cambrai that would make me want to spend more than a night there. If you have crossed from Dover to Calais and plan to drive through the Alsace then an overnight stop in Cambrai will break up your journey nicely.

    Restaurant was lovely and the food delicious, quite a fine dinning experience, and good value. We booked a superior (mid grade) room and it was large and comfortable. My partner needed a lift and sadly the lift only went to the first floor - so there was a struggle up and down the remaining flight of stairs. The bed was BIG, and the linens seemed good. the location was quiet and the room large compared to the cheap chain hotels. We choose this as it was a short drive to the channel tunnel... and that worked well

    We had previously stayed in a première classe and knew that they are bottom of the budget hotels this hotel was not so busy . We booked breakfast knowing it may just be for a jam sandwich but this was tad better although orange juice ran out . We were able to use toaster. The rooms although dated had a cleaner feel than other hotel. Although cramped shower worked better

    I stayed at the Kyriad in Troyes last week and erroneously thought the Cambrai hotel would be of the same standard. The staff were helpful and the set dinner was reasonably priced and good. The room (39 ) was very cold on arrival and took several hours to warm up. Breakfast - the hot breakfast ie. bacon and eggs was cold.
