Hydra is a wonderful place for scenery-gazing and long quiet walks (soundtrack: goat bells, cocks crowing and the occasional donkey bray) - past the monasteries, to the peak of Mount Eros, or across and a scramble down to Limnioniza Beach which we had entirely to ourselves... Our two best meals were both at Techne, where the food is technically accomplished, harmonious and subtle. Jeff Koons' Apollo Wind Spinner at the Deste Project Space Slaughterhouse is a fun diversion on the road to Mandraki. And the many cats seem by and large in good health and well tended thanks to Hydra Ark.

Charming island in a 2 hour ferry ride from Piraeus.
Charming island in a 2 hour ferry ride from Piraeus. Lots of waterside cafes and other restaurants in the center. Nice easy walks along the water, or steeper hikes up the hillside. Many shops. A good place for relaxing.

What I liked the most is that there were no cars, you can go everywhere on foot, very picturesque, quite, the people are friendly and polite, the food was great a bit expensive in elegant restaurants though.
I would like to go again!

NIce island. No cars. Beaches easy to access. Plenty o decent restaurants
Sometimes Hydra Town gets a bit touristy mostly when the big passenger boats come in. The business goes when the passenger ships leave! Nice opportunities for walks outside town, beautiful environment. The town is clean and there are some small supermarkets to get supplies.

Pros: Clean, great food, many options, a lot to see.
Pros: Clean, great food, many options, a lot to see. Good for walking, has small horses and donkeys for transportation. No cars. Everything in walking distance.
Cons: many of the restaurants were not open (March 2024), while their websites said they were. Relevantly pricey. Ugly, monstrous yachts moored at the front of the little harbour. Expect tourists with an attitude - not very friendly.
An extremely pleasant hotel in a quieter part of town but not too far away from the port.
I stayed for 4 nights and the owners, Jenny and Philis, along with their son, Nicolas, and the rest of the staff were only too pleased to oblige.
The breakfast each morning was outstanding in every way and set you up for the rest of the day. Extremely tasty home cooked food.
The presentation and cleanliness of this traditional hotel was superb.
I have no hesitation in recommending the Mistral Hotel in beautiful Hydra. You will not be disappointed.
We loved our 6 night stay in the Hydra Hotel. The hotel has great character and location. We enjoyed the many steps we regularly climbed to get there from the port, but were pleased we'd prearranged with the hotel for our luggage to be transported by mule. Our room was beautiful, clean, and the views superb. All staff were invariably friendly, positive and helpful. The excellent breakfast in the courtyard was a very pleasurable way to start the day. We look forward to the next time we can stay at this lovely hotel.
I am so sorry that I have forgotten the wonderful and who owns the hotel. He is fabulous. He gave us such a beautiful greeting and helped us with our Ferry Tickets during a time when they were storms and the schedule was a little tricky. The room is very clean and in very good condition. It was perfect for our short stay but would’ve been a little small for any longer period of time, but highly recommend this wonderful hotel and the wonderful man who owns it👍
2 minutes walk from the port & many restaurants/cafes. Clear instructions from the Hotel how to find it made it very easy to reach it. Polite receptionists. Smooth Check-in. Quiet Peaceful Hotel. Pleasant Room, Comfortable Double bed, Good Bathroom. Little Fridge. Electric Kettle. Sufficient Daily Cleaning Service. Nice mountain view from the balcony. Great value for Money. Would stay if in Hydra again.
This hotel represents the best of Hydra.
It is situated inside an historical building, perfectly renovated with an intimate service comparable with the one you can receive when you go in the best private house.
A special mention to breakfast that start early in the morning and finish at 13.00: this is what I define luxury service in a familiar ambience.
HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
Central location. Lovely hosts. Excellent kitchen setup if you want to do any cooking inside. The apartment is huge compared to hotels in Greece. Ample space for unpacking, eating, relaxing, moving around bedroom. Host supplies hair dryer and other tools so it was excellent for being in our first day of travel and needing to unpack from the flight.
A beautiful boutique guesthouse, in a quiet and exquisite area of Hydra. It is also close to a truly excellent restaurant small square. At night you can hear the bells in the distance, the patio area is spacious, private and peaceful. Rebecca is a truly wonderful friendly and helpful host. Will stay again when I am back in Hydra.
Upper terrace and ground level patio offered comfortable spaces to sit and read or gather. Rooms were quiet, private. The hotel is a very convenient distance from the port, but far enough to escape the bustle of crowds. Would definitely book here again.
The hotel is lovely, the staff is very kind and welcoming. Our room and its terrace were fantastic. A very short walk from great restaurants and the port. We booked here because of the hotel location and its pool, and we wish we could've stayed longer!
A lovely small hotel in the heart of Hydra. A short walk to all the nearby restaurants, galleries, shops & beaches. Great staff who organised for us to check in early. Comfortable bed & good shower. Highly recommended.
Beautiful hotel a few blocks from the waterfront. Friendly and welcoming staff, our room was upgraded for free to a very spacious lofted room with small semi-private courtyard. Delicious breakfast. Highly recommend!
Was a great place and real luxury. It was close to the port area and many restaiurants. We loved the space and the facilities. Hydra was so quiet and calming, we will be back and would stay here again.
Demetrius was so kind and helpful. The room was compact but comfortable and had all we needed. A lovely little spot a quick walk from the harbour. We loved our stay at the Sidra Hotel Hydra.
The location was perfect. The room was quiet. It didn't have a balcony but you could sit at the garden of the hotel, which was very nice. The hotel provided towels for the sea!
The property is a traditional Greek pension. This is not a hotel! It is very old world Greece vacation experience. The room is meant to the left! Go into the city!
A charming place in the center of Hydra. No luxury but with everything you need for a pleasant stay! The interior is a bit used, but rooms are very clean!
