Gateway to the Inner Hebrides
Oban is a city built around a late 18th-century distillery that produces one of the finest single malt whiskeys in Scotland. This normally peaceful town is invaded during summer when tourists use it as a base to visit the Inner Hebrides islands such as Mull, Lismore and Coll, supporting its status as the Gateway to the Isles.
The horseshoe-shaped Oban Bay is sheltered by Kerrera Island with its spectacular Gylen Castle. Award-winning seafood restaurants and lively pubs line George Street and the waterfront of Corran Esplanade adjacent to the harbour.
Take a short walk up the hill to McCaig’s Tower, a structure based on the Roman Colosseum, for the finest views of Oban’s centre and the outer islands. When you get back down to sea level, stroll into and stumble out of the Oban whiskey distillery after sampling the local version of the 'water of life'.
Admire the coastal scenery as you travel a bit out of town to the 7th-century ruins of Dunollie Castle, home of the Clan MacDougall. The Firth of Lorn gives visitors a fanatstic opportunity to try some sea kayaking.

Oban is an absolutely beautiful coastal town with great access to the rest of the Highlands. The ferries were very easy to use and we had a wonderful time exploring the Isle of Mull and travelling past the Isle of Kerrera on the way. Also make sure to head towards Dunollie Castle and take the tour round - a great time if you enjoy history or stories of the clans. All of the food establishments that we went to were delicious and had great options. Highly recommend the ceilidh dancing on a Monday and Thursday night as it was a cracking time.AAnonymous - 10Scored 10

Oban is on a very pretty bay. It was really busy on a beautiful Saturday and the people were friendly and helpful. Coasters and EE-usk accepted us for food/drinks with no reservations! We did not get there early enough to explore the attractions. The train station and ferry terminal were very efficient and helpful. Oban is a delightful seaside town that offers very good restaurants, shopping (small shops with nice merchandise) and the ability to enjoy the beauty of the bay and all of its activity. Oban makes a great base for exploring the area of walks/hikes, going out on small boat short duration trips to see wildlife, lots of castles to visit or to take the ferry out to the islands. They are located about 12 min. from Oban and an ideal location for us. Oban can be a bit hectic. Breakfasts were absolutely wonderful with a wide variety of choices and fixed to order. We ate 2 evening meals in the dinning room and they were delicious. The dinning room looks out over a beautiful lawn and water.

The small bar in the hotel was managed by the owner and he offered us a taste of whiskey and recommended local excursions. Breakfast was large and made to order, and tasty. I would say this was the best value and best location of our whole trip in Scotland. Onsite parking and beautiful grounds whit a view of the bay. We felt very well taken care of! I highly recommend!
