the food was excellent, a little pricey but good quality. The staff were professionally friendly, however it started to wear thin when every encounter with every member of staff end with the question "will you be eating in the restaurant tonight?". The receptionist was a little short with us, our room was 100m away from the castle and it was raining heavily: we asked to borrow one of the umbrellas in the foyer, she said they were only for guests!!!! This was the very same person who had booked us in 2 hours earlier.
The castle itself was splendid, very well restored.

The room was well equipped and very clean.
Quiet, peaceful location but close to Hadrians Wall sights / museums which was the purpose of our trip.
Lovely to be able to relax in the evening in the pub bar.
Had an excellent evening meal and terrific breakfast.
All in all a lovely choice for what we needed.

Very comfortable and clean. Breakfast is set up to be accessed at any time even if that's super early and your keen to get back on your trail. Owners were very kind, flexible and even kindly gave me a lift back up the hill to continue my walk where I left off. Central location and rooms were still peaceful even though the road is just outside. Really enjoyed and highly recommend.

We stayed in the apartment and it had all we needed for our stay. Pub part was great with a singer on in the evening and a lively crowd. Pub food served which was tasty. Landlady was helpful and very nice.
