Lovely city with some really beautiful parts. Clearly a seedy side (there was a major assault not 50m from our door on one night!), which is true of any city, but Inverness is small enough for it to feel cheek by jowl with the nicer parts. Great range of places to eat and things to do. Easily walkable to everywhere.

Inverness is a beautiful city.
Inverness is a beautiful city. Nice shopping streets and shops. Many nice restaurants with varied menu options. We recommend Aye Eats for the Scottish experience and food. Also, recommend House of Aran for shopping. Both are with in walking distance of our accommodation.

It’s a surprisingly small down that feels a bit empty in the day - mostly comes to life at night with all the live music in bars. For tourists, seems mostly a stopping point en route to Loch Ness rather than a destination of its own.

The location is spot on. Parking a 5 minute walk away. Paid £60 extra to make it a triple room which meant a camp bed was placed in the room…not impressed, couldn’t sleep in it, had to share double bed.

Easy to get to city whether travelling by road, rail, bus and air (air port slightly out of Inverness). We travelled by train and we had lunch in the Ash Restaurant next to the railway station as we had time to kill before we got into our apartment and food was excellent. We also visited the Palace hotel for afternoon tea which was also good.
Plenty of eateries, pubs and shops

Inverness is perfect for a holiday where you want to...
Inverness is perfect for a holiday where you want to prioritize gentleness, quiet, & rest but balanced with time outdoors & access to general amenities (restaurants, pubs, historic sites, etc). Ease of access to the rest of the highlands (and numerous day tour options for the Isle of Skye) are a definite plus for those wanting to go further afield.
This was probably our favourite place we've stayed in Scotland. It is an easy walk from the train station (Inverness is very walkable) and the apartment had everything we needed. There were lots of helpful notes around the apartment for the various things, a coffee machine (not a coffee drinker but others would find this amazing) and a washing machine. We did a reasonable amount of cooking and the apartment had all the utensils we needed. So cosy and the bed was huge.
Friendly welcome from host who is a mine of information about Scotland and Inverness, from lovely anecdotes to tips for places to visit and things to do. Rooms are spotlessly clean and very comfortable. Breakfast was amazing, every taste catered, be it fresh fruit salad, yogurt or porridge to a full cooked breakfast.
We had a wonderful stay and would highly recommend this cosy and comfortable guest house just 5 minutes walk from the centre of Inverness.
Great design with very high quality materials used (natural wood, wool, etc). Even the fudge the host left us as a welcome gift was very high quality. Floor heating, heated towel rack, washing machine, dishwasher, every kitchen utensil you could want, fluffy bathrobes, etc.
Parking was great and the checkin/checkout process straightforward. Bed was comfy as was everything else in the apartment.
It was by far the best accomodation we had in Scotland.
What didn't we like? This is probably the best place I've stayed in Scotland. The property is a bit outside of the city but it is gorgeous! The staff were fantastic and incredibly kind. The food was amazing as well. We recommend to get the pork belly for dinner if it is offered!
One night, there was a leak that set off the fire alarm. One quick call and the staff were there to help. The problem was resolved within 30 minutes.
great little BnB, good location just off of the old town. A bit of a walk but not bad at all. check in process was so easy, they texted me the key code and had the room ready ahead of time. it was really nice to just walk in and unpack, take a short nap and head back into town. breakfast was pretty typical for BnBs in Scotland, good simple breakfast food both hot and cold. the ladies did a great job and were very pleasant.
Plenty of space for 7 adults, we didn't use the hot tub or barbecue area as added after we booked and didn't feel the need to pay the additional optional extra, however the garden looked great.
Very easy to walk to inverness and lovely walks along the river and canal. Good takeaway and restaurant service close by.
Perfect house for our family get together in a beautiful part of Scotland.
Everything...the rooms were cozy, free use of the house was great. Querky, antiquie house with outside area and beehives!!! Breakfasts were fantastic and a great start to the day... With something for everyone. Charming host who just wants you to have a relaxing time at his house whilst sampling the delights of Inverness and Scotland... Fantastic time with my two adult sons and partner 😀
We stayed 2 nights in this lovely house. The room is extremely clean and tidy, and we were warmly received by the host. The host was so kindly to offer us the hearty home-made Scottish breakfast and even allowed us to use their laundry machine - which we sincerely appreciated. During our 2-week vacation in Scotland in 7 different hotels/bnb, this has been the best stay of our trip!
Our stay in Doric House was absolutely AMAZING! Jamie and his family are the best hosts you could ever wish for. Jamie has a great historic knowledge of Inverness and Scotland itself. He recommended some beautiful walks to us. The house is immaculate. The breakfast is beautiful. 100% would recommend anyone staying here. I can't wait to be back!
Me and 4 of my Mates stayed here for 3 night while we ride up and around Scotland, the place was really good, the staff were on the phone and came to sort out a tiny problem we have straight away (a picky problem), if you are going to Inverness I highly recommend this place, the area is quite so it’s even good for a family with kids
The Chieftain was amazing. From the staff, to the room, to the pub, it was all a great experience. We have been bouncing around Scotland for a little over a week and my kids think Inverness was by far their favorite place. The Chieftain had a lot to do with that. Also, the Hop On-Hop Off bus tour has a stop right across the street!
This was one of the best places we stayed in during our Scotland visit. I highly recommend staying here. The host was so friendly and extremely accommodating. It was the best shower we have ever had. The views and sunsets were amazing. The breakfast had so much food and brought right to your room. The place was very clean.
The hosts were so welcoming and helpful. This was our first time visiting Scotland and this was the perfect first night’s stay. Location was great given it’s just about a 10 min walk from the city center and if you’re getting used to driving on the “proper side of the road” 😉 you might not want to drive into the city just yet.
Everything! Beautiful house with perfectly detailed rooms. Our hostess was great to talk to over a great Scottish breakfast (high quality ingredients). She also made sure we got to Culloden Battlefield and arranged a Taxi to pick us up there. Best place during our 14 days in Scotland.
Culloden House is a historic site of Scotland close to the Culloden Battle Field. This historic building now serves as a 4 star hotel. If you can accept some downsides due to this you will have an enjoyable time. The staff is outstanding making your stay definitely remarkable.
Very economical!! Great location, about 10 minutes to the train station. I was here for 3 consecutive cycling trips, with pickup and departure at the train station each time. This is where I'll stay the next time I travel with Wilderness Scotland from Inverness.
The host was very friendly - on arrival told me the quickest route to the old part of Inverness so I could easily orientate where I was - a very welcoming start to my visit to Scotland
Oye favorite stay while in Scotland! Very quiet location, with excellent breakfast. Our hosts were exceptional, and David's suggestions on hotels and excursions were perfect!
The location in Inverness was great. Close to the town center, but away from the noise. The breakfast buffet was one of the best that we had in Scotland.
