Domestic travellers can reach Croydon by train from London Victoria (15 minutes) or by car via the M25 (22km). International visitors can fly into Gatwick Airport, then take a direct train to Croydon (20 minutes).
The most convenient airport for both domestic and international travellers to reach Croydon is Gatwick Airport, due to its proximity (approximately 27 km) and excellent transport links to the town.
Croydon, UK, offers diverse public transport options. Tramlink services connect to Wimbledon and Beckenham. Frequent buses serve local areas, while National Rail links to London and beyond. Alternatively, cycling is supported by dedicated lanes. Walking is feasible for short distances. For longer journeys, consider driving or hiring a taxi.
East Croydon is a popular area to stay due to its excellent transport links, including direct trains to London. It's also home to the Boxpark, a hub of food and entertainment, making it a vibrant and convenient location for visitors.
Shopping Destination with Convenient Station
Midway between central London and Gatwick Airport, Croydon is a shopping haven. Hundreds of stores are found under the glass-roofed Whitgift Centre and the even more modern Centrale complex.
This thriving retail industry is one factor contributing to the town being London’s 3rd most important business area, so naturally it has its fair share of skyscrapers. Also tall is the red-brick Croydon Clocktower, housing the town museum, and attached to the town hall overlooking Queen’s Gardens.
Opposite is Fairfield Halls, a large arts venue behind which run train lines connecting East Croydon Station to London Victoria in one direction, and Gatwick and Brighton in the other. Modern trams also link the town to other suburbs. Croydon used to have its own airport (once more important than Heathrow) and its former terminal is a museum open one Sunday a month.
The town minster houses tombs of some archbishops of Canterbury and their summer residence was Croydon Palace, now a school. Much more famous is the BRIT School which has nurtured musical artists including Adele, Jessie J and Katie Melua.
The Croydon accommodation on Booking.com includes 4-star hotels with pools, guest houses with parking and cheap apartments. In the Borough of Croydon are Addington, home of an opulent palace, and neighbouring Shirley with its Grade II-listed windmill.

I grew up near Croydon and it has changed a great deal, It has good transport and access to shops. It is fairly built up in some areas but has a good community spirit and some older buildings do remain.
Coulsdon is in a more leafy part of the borough and I enjoyed staying in the Coulsdon Manor Hotel.

Everything was amazing but only reason I would not give a 5 star is because the curtains were not black out as advised and their were street lights right opposite window which was super annoying inside door did not lock either so put a chair infront for peace of mind. Staff were attentive, happy, and smiling.

The only small problem I noticed was the taps on the sink.
The only small problem I noticed was the taps on the sink. They were not far enough forward in the bowl, so difficult to get your hands, toothbrush etc under. Also the water therefore run onto the surface instead into the bowl.

I only come here because I have relatives in the city otherwise I would not be seen dead here - mind you, with all the knife stabbings that go on in Croydon, that´s always a possibility. A two word description of Croydon would end in hole!
It was a great price for Greater London: we walk a lot and were happy to walk to East Croydon & Purley to get trains during our stay. Every member of staff was extremely friendly and helpful. Breakfast was tasty although served in a big function room which was odd at first sight but not a problem. We arrived on a hot day and there was a problem with the air conditioning in the room but they sorted it out, very cheerfully, in a few minutes.
The receptionist was very welcoming. I arrived late at night. 10 50pm.
Nice clean bathrooms and rooms. The shower was really clean with good hot water and towels where provided
The bed and pillow was very comfortable.
For the price you cant beat this hotel! The high street is close enough where you can find everything you need.
Will definitely return next time I'm in south London.
Roberto was very welcoming. Was able to provide all the information required. A very good breakfast was provided. Free parking was available right in front of the house. We can absolutely recommend "Family Home" for a very pleasant stay in Croydon, London. Public transport is very close with a good bus service to East Croydon Station where there are very frequent trains into London.
I like the staff they were really helpful and accommodated me really well. I like the room I was given because it looks like a luxury suite to me and it was very comfortable and cosy and it is close to the West and East Croydon station within a walking distance from each other and also the town centre. I really enjoyed my stay here.
Train station West Croydon is a good 10 min. walk away and East Croydon additional 10 min., that gives enough possibilities to get fast and easy to London downtown or to the coast.
Lots of super markets and restaurants very close in London Street.
Property is in a quiet side street.
Host is very helpful and answeres quickly.
The breakfast, internet and location was good. You can easily get to the hotel from the East Croydon station.
The breakfast was the normal eggs, beans, bacon, and various other breads and drinks.
The Wi-Fi was fast and rooms and facilities were clean. Was able to check in early and stay late without a charge.
Nice A/C
Train journey from Gatwick airport was 18 mins to east croydon and 5 mins drive to Westciti so we arrived much earlier that expected. The staff were accommodating, the lounge was comfortable to wait in and the rooms were made available as soon as possible. We really enjoyed our stay at the Aparthotel.
The location is perfect, right next to East Croydon Station. It's really easy to get into london, and about half the price of staying there. The staff were lovely and provided me with a hairdryer, body wash and an extra key card. AC in the room was a lovely treat on such a hot night.
A beautiful property and the location is brilliant. Your proximity to Central London and Gatwick is on point. Additionally, you are a stone’s throw away from West Croydon Station and the Shopping Centre in East Croydon. A helpful and very responsive host.
Love the property. Hotel needs to be finished before it opens. Looks like it’s crumbling. Has lots it’s crispness. I can appreciate what the vision is but there’s a way to go. Liked the bunkbeds and art work happening.
Room was clean with internet, cable tv and a large bathroom. I got a great price on a single bed in sold-out London. Noon plane out at Gatwick so Croydon is great location. Lots of restaurants on high street.
Great welcome, cupcakes in room, spacious, great bed, generous breakfast, good TV and wifi, very near East Croydon train station. Loved the cold rinks (infused water and fresh juice). Above average hotel.
This hotel was superb, exceeded expectations. In particular all the staff we dealt with were professional and extremely helpful. Our room was excellent and clean. Breakfast superb. Can't fault anything.
The grounds outside the hotel were lovely. There was nothing I liked about the property. Not a 4* hotel at all! More like a cheap pub b&b. Far from a manor standard. In desperate need of a refurb.
We wanted to stay in Croydon and this hotel is centrally located just by East Croydon train station, the Boxpark Croydon and the neighbourhood pub the Bedford Tavern
