We selected Ambleside as it is central for touring the Lake District. It is a pleasant Town with plenty of shops & restaurants. It also has the biggest garden centre I can ever remeber being in. It was pretty busy even outside of a public or school holiday time so booking restaurants is usually necessary.

It was our first visit to Ambleside and we weren’t disappointed. We had a meal at Luigi’s which was amazing. The staff were very friendly and I would definitely recommend this restaurant and I am a fussy eater.
The weather was glorious so we had a few drinks in the beer garden at the Royal Oak pub.
Ambleside was about a 15minute walk from our accommodation, Windermere Rooms at the Wateredge Inn.

A very busy place even though it was not peak season.
We stayed across the lake from Ambleside and it was much quieter and prettier.
Be prepared to pay for parking and toilet access in all public areas in the Lake District and only a credit card is acceptable for payment.

Great selection of bars and excellent restaurants.
Great selection of bars and excellent restaurants. Good base for walks and also regular bus service thtough lake district .
"Lucys om a plate' one of best restaurants I have ever eaten in... exceptional menu, quality, service and value for money.
This hotel was very well run. Breakfast excellent, room excellent spotlessly clean, Staff in all areas of the hotel were very helpful friendly and professional. I loved the Spa facilities they were lovely and totally relaxing and again very clean. My husband travels worldwide so can be quite critical of hotels as he's been in the best and the worst of them and he thought ambleside salutation hotel was great and he made no negative comments ...and that's saying something.
Fantastic little cottage right in the centre of all local amenities. Lots of pubs / restaurants on your doorstep. Everywhere was super dog friendly. Ambleside was a great base for us to explore the Lake District.
the cottage was beautifully decorated, lovely and cosy, with a smart tv in both the lounge and bedroom. The hosts were great, brilliant communication and very friendly. Couldn’t recommend more!
This is a lovely Hotel, in its own grounds, set just off the A591 south of Ambleside. It is tastefully decorated, spotlessly clean, with ample lounges/seating areas, with a pleasant outdoor patio area.
The staff are exceptional, as is the breakfast and evening meals, and I would recommend trying the tasting menu (an extra supplement) if you get the chance.
It's a dog friendly hotel, with welcoming staff and I felt comfortable as a solo traveller. A great location for walking to Elterwater and next door to Chester's by the River. We were upgraded to a twin room and my dog got to have a sausage for breakfast. It was good to be able to have a meal in The Talbot Bar on the evening without leaving the hotel.
Like everywhere in the Lake District, the Wateredge seems to be having issues with staff. However, the staff there were all really friendly and worked incredibly hard. The hotel and location were perfect. We plan to return to Wateredge in the near future. Thanks, for a lovely stay.
Also, we took our dog and it was very dog friendly.
It is on the edge of Ambleside so out of the bustle and noise somewhat, but still in easy walking distance to shops. Breakfast is ample, with lots of choices. The house is a lovely older building, with views over fields of grazing sheep. Rooms were comfortable, with tea making facilities. The owners are friendly and helpful.
The hotel is in a great position and you could be lucky and get a great view. Our room was a little compact and at the back but we could see the hills behind the hotel. I hadn't realised it was dog friendly, and would not have booked if i had, however the dogs were not allowed in the dining room which was a relief.
We couldn't fault this lovely accommodation. The decor was beautiful, gentle colours, soothing with quality fittings. Breakfast was not only delicious but perfectly presented. The hosts could not have been more helpful. We absolutely loved it here and with the background of the Lake District in spring - perfect!
The listing for the room we booked was inaccurate about the room size and bedding, but the staff at the hotel did solve the problem, and we ended up in the room we thought we had booked. The restaurant was really good.
Ideally situated close to Ambleside with parking. Hosts very welcoming and accommodating. Breakfast was well organised and plenty of choice available. Rooms were good size with lots of nice little touches.
I like the location of the hotel with nice and helpful staff there
Free privet parking lot for your car
Big, nice and clean rooms are there
Price is good
Best choice in Ambleside 👍
My husband and I stayed at The Waterhead Inn for two nights. The staff were all very friendly and polite. The food was delicious and the hotel itself was clean and warm.
Louise and Shaun's warm hospitality and breakfast they provided was fabulous. Their position was a few minutes walk from restaurants, hotels, shopping etc. We loved it!
the staff were just more than amazing and welcoming. it is located in the central area of Ambleside and the breakfast was more than enough and more than perfect
