I made the mistake of visiting Chengdu when it was SNOWING and Wet Snow / Icy Rain drizzling for a few days in January 2024. That kind of (very rare) weather kills everything touristy in Chengdu: Most hotels have no heater. You need to use the AC......after one night's AC blowing, I woke up with a bad cough and developed a bad cold soon afterward. One tip: Ask your hotel for a movable heater for your room: Much better than using the AC.

Sichuan is well worth visiting and Chengdu, the capital, has an interesting history. The people are very friendly and there are plenty of places in and around the city to explore. The metro is excellent and the restaurants plentiful. Wouldn't go to the giant Panda Breeding Base if I visited again - very crowded and in January crowded but very little to see and parts of the centre shut and locked. Although the site is enormous, and it would take at least a day of walking to get around the whole place, there are I believe better and more intimate Panda centres in the area.

Interesting and culturally rich.
Interesting and culturally rich. Clean and technologically advance.
Friendly people and a safe country to visit and walk around.
Very affordable food.
However, everything will be in chinese, the signages, the menu and the language spoken. It was really challenging for non mandarin speakers to communicate there.
Not a place to shop though, cannot compare with Bangkok or Beijing.
The Panda Base is not worth a visit if you want to catch Pandas, because they will be either hiding or sleeping. However, that attractions have many instagram worthy spots to take pictures.
Kwan Chai alley is a must!! with very affordable opera shows.

Chengdu is a busy and popular travel destination in China.
Chengdu is a busy and popular travel destination in China. The museums are impressive and have amazing cultural relics. It can be hard to get a booking to visit a museum, the booking process can be difficult (mostly online via wechat). Some places in the city are very crowded, keep that in mind.

Chengdu is the capital city of Sichuan know for spicy Hotpots and pandas mainly. It’s a city that never sleeps with every possible entertainment you care to think of. Restaurants of every type, bars, clubs, spas, shopping centres and oodles of culture. What’s not to love?
It’s reputed that Chengdu has the most beautiful women and wherever you look serenity abounds in stylish attires appropriate to the sultry heady heat of summer.
We loved the shops underneath the hotel!! Super convenient for grocery and for a meal, with lots to choose from. The staff are so helpful and well trained, their service is top notch, which was the most unforgettable part of our stay. Breakfast is different everyday with several staple items, plus a chef counter who cooks fresh noodles, dumplings and wontons etc upon request. The location is convenient too, being close to a metro station with 2 lines, despite the recent construction happening right outside.
Hello Dear Sophie and Hotel Team,
I booked your hotel, via Booking.com, because it had so such a good hotel rating and I can confirm that.
I stayed here for 4 nights in April 2024. All was perfect, the room was pleasant and very clean, the breakfast was deliciousand the staff very friendly.
Special thanks from me to Sophie for her help of all my questions and perfect organization of my pick up from the hotel to the airport.
Thank you very much.
Best regards from Germany

It's probably one of the best hotels I've stayed at in China. The staff have an impeccable attention to detail, extremely friendly, speak English. Breakfast large, with good variety (a juice bar!). A Michelin rated restaurant is on site. Very cool bar with unique cocktails (Szechuan Hot Pot Tequila??). Pool and gym are fine, hot tub in the changing room is a nice addition.
Travelled on business and the location perfect for my visit.Fast easy check in and very friendly staff. Clean, comfortable and a few decent options for food across the road including a 24hrs convenient store which came in handy. One piece of advice if travelling these days from out of Chengdu, make sure you ask hotel staff where to get pcr tests close to the hotel.
The breakfast was very good. There was a large selection of different dishes, both Asian and European.
The rooms were very spacious and the bathtub was great!
There is a subway station near the hotel as well as buses. It's not centrally located, but you can get everywhere easily.
You can get to the airport and train station quickly.
Pleasantly old-fashioned Chinese hotel quite different from the standard ones. Large rooms, nice view from the window, many things to do in the direct neighborhood. Open-air restaurant in the patio. Laundry service for free! Try the rabbit head sold in the neighboring shop,
My husband and I visited Chengdu to celebrate our 10th wedding anniversary. The staff at Ritz Carlton made our stay absolutely fabulous. They have decorated our room with balloons and rose petals.
The service was great, the room was clean, the location is excellent.
The staff was very accomodating and understanding. They even let me extend my check-out time free of charge. The facilities were clean and the beds are very comfortable. I only stayed for one night but this will be my choice for any of my trips to Chengdu.
The staff Lora and Green is very friendly and very helpful too chat by write because I'm deaf . They're very understanding. Good explaining about the map , the restaurant, visiting of chengdu. Someday I come back sure I take this hostel no hesitate!
Good location, good value for money, 24hr front desk, the staff are friendly especially Damon who always kind and helpfull to us. Thankyou Damon for your hospitality. Next time when we come back to Chengdu, we will stay in this hostel again.
The concierge and the reception staffs were friendly. Room was very spacious as well and we had a very good nights rest here at Somerset Riverview Chengdu. Also the price per night was very reasonable for its location. Highly recommended!
The staff were incredibly helpful and spoke very good English which made our stay in Chengdu go so much smoother, as the lovely ladies helped us book tickets for the Sichuan opera and Panda Research center.
The property was great too!
The hotel was very well located. They provide a map of Chengdu and are very helpful. They have a lovely terrasse to have a drink or breakfast with lots of plants. I loved the paintings in the rooms. They will suggest good restaurants.
The location is right at the heart of Chengdu and right next to exit D of Luomashi station. Staff are nice and try to help us book taxi, collect parcels, etc.
Very nice and clean room. Super bathroom and shower. We can definitely recommend this hotel.
We would book it again when we have to stay near chengdu airport!
