I got lucky with the room because I had a vending machine with beer right next to my door.
The location is good, not far from bus/train stations, but it might be a bit inconvenient if you have suitcases since the road from the stations is quite busy and doesn’t have pedestrian area. For me it wasn’t an issue since I had only a backpack.
The room was spacious and clean, the staff were super friendly. Amazing outdoor onsen. Overall, I enjoyed my stay.

Taito, Tokyo
Situated in Tokyo, within 1.5 km of Sensoji Temple and 2.2 km of Tokyo Skytree, Ryokan Nakadaya offers accommodation with a shared lounge. The property is set 3.5 km from Edo Tokyo Museum, 6 km from Marunouchi Building and 6 km from Yasukuni Shrine. Free WiFi is available. I stayed at Ryokan Nakadaya on the last leg of my Japan trip during spring. After having seen so much of that beautiful country over two busy weeks, I didn’t think Tokyo could get better than what I had already experienced. Little did I know, I would be so lucky to be in Tatsuo-san’s company. I received a warm welcome, and was showed around the property on arrival. I didn’t even have to carry my luggage to the room as Tatsuo-san took care of it. Each morning, he would ask which area of the city I am planning to visit, and would airdrop me the best recommendations – for food, sightseeing, shopping – you name it, including some rare locations like the Hayao Miyazaki clock which I loved! One morning when it was raining heavily, he offered me a fresh mochi along with some matcha, which was one of my favorite snacks in Japan. He would also perform a little ceremony sparking flint stones to bring me good luck on my travels. Starting my day with such cute interactions with Tatsuo-san was one of the most wonderful highlights of my trip. It felt like I made a friend! As far as the property goes – it’s a charming, vintage ryokan. Each corner is speckless – not only were the common areas cleaned every day by hardworking staff, but so were the rooms. The showers and bathrooms were always clean too, despite being shared. There was also a lobby-like area where you could have tea and enjoy some Japanese snacks. The (single) room itself is a good size for someone who is staying there as a traveler, as you would likely be venturing out during the day. I found the Tatami mats and the futon to be perfect for me as I don’t prefer extremely soft hotel beds, but Tatsuo-san did offer to put more mattresses, in case I wanted them. Like in any ryokan, you have to be careful not to damage the mats, but there are enough shelves and furniture to park your luggage and other bags comfortably. The internet was also fast.

Our stay at this typical Japanese Ryokan was enchanting. The warm welcome of the staff embodied the essence of Japanese hospitality. Our tatami rooms were serene with minimalist decor. The highlight was the exquisite kaiseki cuisine, bursting with seasonal flavors. The therapeutic mineral water of the onsen leave us feeling refreshed and revitalized. The attentive staff ensured an unforgettable Japanase stay.
- super hosts, very helpful, whatever is your request, doing their best to translate in English and make it easy for you - large bedroom with very comfortable futons - great house full of tatamis - onsen : inside and outside opened still late at night - opportunity to get a kaiseki dinner
Nice property in a beautiful setting. Staff spoke very good English. Check-in was very informative, even pre-arrival details provided were very good. Nice clean tatami room with comfortable mattresses (not just futon). We paid for a private onsen (my children were shy to use the public onsen), and it was fantastic. Both included dinner and breakfast were excellent, met our expectations of good quality kaiseki meals... we were so full by the end of each meal!
The owners are very friendly, go above & beyond to make your stay comfortable. He dropped us at the restaurant nearby and willing to pick us up if the restaurant couldn't drop us back to the accommodation. The room is very clean and spacious with tatami floor. She prepared the futon for us. The private Onsen was a plus. You can experience the real Japanese ryokan here. It should be easy to find if you get off at Kamisokokura Bus Stop and walk 3 mins to TSUKINOYA.
The hotel room was beautiful and quite large with good amenities and a quite stylish yukata compared to many other hotels. The futons are comfortable, and i would personally prefer them to many of the regular beds I have slept in around the world. The room is clean and the staff is helpful. The onsen in the hotel is pretty decent, but the onsen which is available for free at the neighbouring building is amazing. Also the town the hotel is located in is beautiful in the evening.
The views from the room were amazing. I loved the tatami mats and the traditional styling of the estate. The staff members were so kind and helpful. Thank you to Youko for servicing us during our stay. Please keep in mind what your expectation for a traditional ryokan room is going to be like. Some of the reviews claim that the furniture is old which I can agree with but it is a traditional Japanese inn and we found our room was spotlessly clean.
Staff very kind Transfer to gora station Traditional japanese dinner and restaurant Amazing onsen Room with futon and yukata and private bathroom Perfect position for Hakone tour
Good onsen Nice Japanese style breakfast Nice room -Japanese style floor Tatami and futon
Great place, two different waters in onsen makes it not only for relaxing but also healthy stay. All the procedures are typical for Ryokan, so it was a great (but not always known) experience for european person - rooms, shoes, tatami mats, yukatas - you have it all. But the highlight is food, awesome kaiseki style dinner and breakfast makes for a complete experience of traditional japan.
