Old style ryokan, it's very well preserved and taken care of (clean, tidy...). The only thing that exceeds the quality of the installations is the kindness and professionality of its staff.
I have already came here twice and next time I'm nearby Yudanaka will for sure stay again here.

Yudanaka Onsen, Yamanouchi
Bright rooms come with a traditional decor of tatami (woven-straw) floor, a low table with seating cushions and traditional futon bedding. They are fitted with a seating area, an LCD TV and a fridge. A safe and yukata robes are provided. Without requesting, they sent a chauffeur to drive us from the station to the hotel on a rainy night. The food is great, the baths are large, and the rooms are cozy. Top class service.
Nagano
Guests sleep in Japanese-style rooms located in annex buildings. Fitted with tatami (woven-straw) flooring and futon bedding, the rooms feature a flat-screen TV and a seating area with a low table. Bathroom is shared with other guests. Oshi Ryokan welcomed me with an authentic beauty of the building and the people. The location is almost right next to the shrine and the bus stop. The ryokan facilities are amazing: beautiful Japanese style room with a warm kotatsu table and fluffy futon to snuggle in, and a big tub of hot water that you can soak your whole body in it. There are also many Japanese traditional rooms and small elements to admire. If you are into Japanese aesthetics, you’ll be in awe. The service is excellent. Everyone is so hospitable and kind. I recommend booking with meals. You won’t be disappointed with the food and the service. Every dishes was very well-prepared and delicious. The dining room, plates, cups, glassware, and all details on the table was beautifully arranged. It’s not very often that eating can make me feel like art administration and I was very well pampered. I’m very grateful for the experience. I hope to be back exploring Togakuchi and stay at Oshi Ryokan again. Until that time, I’ll cherish this memory.
Shibu Onsen, Yamanouchi
The air-conditioned rooms feature tatami (woven-straw) floors and Japanese futon bedding. Each room comes with a TV, a fridge and an electric kettle with green tea bags. Japanese Yukata robes are provided and guests can enjoy views of the river or of the traditional stone-paved streets. Bathrooms and toilets are shared. This traditional ryokan is incredible and Akira-san and his mother, Yumi-san made our experience unforgettable. They were both very welcoming and thoughtful. Akira-san's English is very good and he also taught us how to speak Japanese language and culture. Yumi-san didn't speak English but still made us feel welcome. She taught us how to tie our Yukata and cut us fresh persimmon and apples as a parting gift. The private onsens at the Ryokan are clean and relaxing. They also provide the local public Onsen key (which aren't as nice as the ryokan private onsen). The room is super spacious with traditional tatami mats and a gorgeous view of the waterfall and town.
Nozawa Onsen

They come with traditional futon bedding and yukata robes, while bathroom facilities are shared. Everything about this hotel is awesome. If you want an authentic Japanese experience with a super friendly and helpful host I would really recommend this hotel to you. The location is great, the rooms are clean and comfortable, the onsen downstairs is great, I could keep on going, its all superb.

There are not enough words to explain our experience at Yorozuya. We got to know the Ryokan hospitality by first hand. The employees were very respectful and considerate, the food experience one that nobody should miss and the Onsen facilities great. Room was clean and spacious and the futon bed comfy. This experience definitely changed our perception about hospitality for ever. Thank you Yorozuya!
The room was the traditional style Ryokan, large space with comfortable futons and seating area. A heater was provided. The hotel had a private onsen (but it was Very hot). The late check-in was useful and the staff were friendly.
A lovely traditional Ryokan right in the middle of Nozawa main village a short walk from to the Yu-Road escalator which takes you straight up to the ski area. The hosts are lovely people and the traditional breakfast was delicious. It also has it's own onsen.
I had an amazing stay in Uotoshi Ryokan ! I felt like I was traveling back in time, with the decoration being so traditional and Japanese like. I really recommend the place, the onsen is nice, the rooms are very calm and the futon was comfortable. I also had a kotatsu (winter heating table). The owner took me to the entrance of the monkey park and was very helpful. He could speak a very good English ! Breakfast is Japanese style and it was really good 😊
Great location, in house restaurant for breakfast and dinner, traditional Japanese Ryokan. Despite being a tatami mat with futons, the bedding was extremely comfortable. Free bus pick up from train station as well as free bus drop off to Snow Monkey park. Staff were very helpful and provided lots of information about what to do and how to do it. Shared bathroom facilities were quite basic but OK. The bonus is the key to the public onsens, all 9 of them.
Loved the traditional Ryokan. Cosy rooms with comfy futon style beds. We had a room at the front with an indoor balcony that overlooked the street. Had breakfast and dinner at the restaurant, which was great. Staff were really friendly, helpful and spoke English. They supplied Yukata and geta to wear out to the onsen - the closest was only 50 meters up the road.
The owners were very lovely and did their best to accommodate us, picked us up from the station. It was a very nice experience to stay in traditional japanese ryokan, room was like from another era, had a tea set and futons, but there were also ac, humidifier and fridge. We used an onsen, had yukatas, it was all very comfortable
Lovely hotel. Room is very big with an amazing view of the city and mountains. The room has a traditional ryokan look with tatami floors and futon, the bathroom has a nice little bathub. The onsen is nice and clean. The staff, even though they couldn't speak english, made the effort to communicate with translator, and were very friendly and helpful, and in the end even gave me a lovely gift.
We loved everything about this ryokan - beautiful, spacious room with comfortable futons. The owners even provided tea and yukas for the private onsen in the ryokan, which was wonderful, and apparently quite a rare sight in the area as many hotels in the area have onsens only outside of their property. We paid extra for the traditional breakfast and it was delicious. The owners even gave us local appels as a gift when we checked out and it was the best apple I've ever tasted.
