Mizumari, hotel in Kawazu

30 km from Shuzen-ji Temple in Kawazu, Mizumari features accommodation with access to a hot spring bath and open-air bath. This ryokan offers free private parking and a 24-hour front desk.

What an experience! We stayed at Mizumari during our honeymooon and I can honestly say we have never felt more welcomed, relaxed, and cared for than we did at Mizumari. Taiyo and his staff are truly incredible and work to meet your every need. For example, when we arrived, we mentioned a specific drink that we had enjoyed on our trip. The next day, Taiyo had sent someone to find the item and served it to us in several different forms. Everyone was so attentive and kind, and we were incredibly sad to leave! The food is incredible and plentiful- the best we had in Japan. We really loved the fresh and creative nature of the food, with a nice mix of seafood and meat dishes including locally sourced foods. The courses keep on coming so be sure to save space! We also appreciated that the staff was very helpful in recommending drinks pairings that go with the meal (and which are included in the booking price). The space was recently rennovated and has a very clean and modern look. We stayed in room 1, which has a large living room, separate bedroom and a patio overlooking the creek with a gorgeous and large onsen tub fed by the hotsprings. The entire space feels very private and quiet. The location is also great, a few steps away from the start of the seven waterfalls hike (which we loved- we had it all to ourselves when we went around 10am), and only a 20minute drive from the coast, where there is limitless hiking and exploring.

We love the room and the garden with onsen very much. There is a special thing we notice during our stay - it is so elegant to have toilot paper with beautiful lace patterns in the room. I can see that the staffs prepared the stay with care.

横川温泉湯殿ととのゆ, hotel in Kawazu

33 km from Koibito Misaki Cape in Shimoda, 横川温泉湯殿ととのゆ provides accommodation with access to a hot spring bath, hot tub and open-air bath.

Beautiful, new build residence. Very low fuss and with stripped back breakfast. But we had complete privacy and a very tranquil setting and enough creature comforts to enjoy a film in the evening. Only a short drive from three towns and the seven waterfalls as well. The bath room/private onsen is wonderful.

Inatori Tokai Hotel Yuen, hotel in Kawazu

Boasting luxurious outdoor hot spring baths, Inatori Tokai Hotel Yuen provides spacious Japanese-style guest rooms overlooking the ocean.

- We got a free room upgrade to the Harumi Executive Twin Room with an open air bath on the balcony (doesn't seem to be on Booking.com though) - This room was super spacious and beautifully furnished, very modern but still had traditional aspects - Stunning ocean front view - this was particularly great when using the private bath - Located in a small seaside town so it was very relaxing to travel around (definitely need a car though) - Beds were super comfortable - Staff were very accommodating and friendly - Toilet was separate to the shower room which we personally prefer - Breakfast and kaiseki dinner was great and very extensive (heavy on the seafood but it was to be expected considering the location) - Hotel had free parking onsite - Coin laundry and dryer available onsite (only 1 each but we didn't have to wait)

Everything was positive about this ryokan! Staff were extremely friendly. The onsen bath in your private balcony was fantastic, having the luxury of enjoying onsen in your room. They also had two private onsen rooms which you can book to use for free! We stayed for two nights and had kaiseki for dinner both nights, which were amazing as well. It was truly an unforgettable experience staying here.

Fantastic location, first property at the beach side and only 5 minutes from the train station. Well preserved installations/facilities (tatami floor rooms with a sea view, restaurant hall, lobby, onsen areas). Fantastic selection of food for dinners and breakfast as part of the meal plans, cooked perfectly and served just as well. Finally, and for us most importantly, the staff is simply exceptional. They treated us like family from the moment we arrived till we left. Our stay was fantastic already, but they made it perfect.
