Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta, Iceland, Australia, Greece, Brazil and North Carolina. For properties in these regions, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United StatesStaying at The 1 Hotel Hanalei Bay was nothing short of magical. The view? Insane. I’m talking jaw-dropping, postcard-perfect scenery that makes you question reality. From sunrise to sunset, every glance out the window felt like stepping into a painting. The food was equally as impressive – fresh, organic, and clearly made with love. It’s rare to find a place that marries luxury with sustainability so seamlessly. Whether it was breakfast by the bay or a casual snack, everything was top-tier. As for the amenities? Pure perfection. Every detail, from the spa to the fitness center, was thoughtfully curated. If you’re looking for a blend of relaxation, luxury, and a deep connection with nature, this is your spot. Can't wait to go back!

SwitzerlandUnderstaffed and (partly) unqualified staff. From start to finish we were not satisfied with the service, starting with the fact that upon check-in we had to wait for hours to get luggage l get delivered to our room and finishing with the fact that one has to wait for 10-30 minutes to get seated for breakfast table (although there were clearly empty tables). Likewise, many of the employees (albeit not everyone) were straight unfriendly or unprofessional (e.g., chewing gum when speaking, etc.). All in all, we get to spend +50 days per annum in hotels across the globe, yet we have rarely seen such poor service, which in our eyes is a big no go with such high price point.
The property is arguably the most beautiful we have ever seen, not just in the US, but across the globe. The setting, the facilities, and design is just top notch and we could not imagine a more beautiful property.

United StatesThe service within the dining locations was poor. Products not available, drinks on menus were not cold, food for dinner and lunch both served before the drink order arrived.

United StatesUnderstaffed. For more than a $1000 per night it’s ridiculous that Barmen literally told me that they are extremely understaffed and that’s why they were slow. He was really cool though and doing a great job. When checking out - it took 40 minutes to find and get my luggage 🤦♀️ for the money per night it shouldn’t be like this.
Amazing luxurious hotel in a great location.

United StatesIt felt like there were hidden fees everywhere you looked, and inaccurate charges if you weren't careful. One example is the mandatory $50/day 'valet fee', while there's no option to park your car yourself. Another, which ultimately doesn't matter but is strange, is the daily $2000ish 'incidental hold' I was charged on my credit card. These fell off afterward, but that's a bizarre practice that the hotel didn't have much of an answer for. Additionally, we asked the hotel to arrange us a taxi to a popular beach and were told it would be $70 total, but were ultimately charged $160 total. Finally, we were charged for breakfast when it was included in our reservation, which required another conversation with the hotel staff. Any one of these things isn't a big deal, but there were so many instances like this that it felt like a trend worth mentioning. All of this being said, I would stay here again, but think it's helpful for others to be vigilant so they aren't overcharged too.
One of the most beautiful properties I've ever stayed at. You get a sweeping view of Hanalei Bay from the entire main floor of the hotel, including the restaurant and infinity pool. The staff members were all very friendly and attentive to any requests, and the rooms were totally comfortable and modern. The gym was incredible, and there are a bunch of free classes that we took advantage of and really enjoyed. And if you're a plant lover like me, I have certainly never seen anywhere as nicely landscaped as this hotel, both inside and out. The entire feel of the place was magical.

United StatesConcierge appropriately concerned about the approaching storm and roads washing out, but wish we had been told an online reservation was needed to enter Haena State Park. There is no cell reception at the park to make one. They did recommend Tahiti Noi restaurant; not to be missed!
This is a hard review to write; every corner we turned was magical. Entering the hotel thru a garden/fountain wonderland, tropical cocktail at check in, passing thru lobby with overwhelming terrace/bar sunset, entering an oasis of a white sofa/carpet/woven art separate lounge off the corridor to our room. Bedroom with white plush fur sitting room/live fern on wall in bathroom. Fun to have gardener come to room for a fresh fern change. Doug at beach equipment rental very personal and informative on beaches and conditions. Adult infinity pool. Peaceful. Peaceful.

AustraliaIt felt a bit separated from the local community, we explored ourselves, however it would have been great to learn more about Hanalei Bay from the hotel. While welcoming, it also felt a little “exclusive” which I anticipate is the idea, but this created a separateness.
The ambience, positioning in nature, view, use of natural materials in the decor and attention to detail.
