Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta, Iceland, Australia, Greece, Brazil and North Carolina. For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United StatesThe refrigerator in the room. Do not use! Doesn’t get cold enough for food or drinks.
The staff was very friendly and helpful, helping us arrange transportation and tours. The location is perfect, close enough to Paje that we could walk there, but far enough away that it was a quiet part of the beach. The breakfast is so, so good! They even arranged for an early breakfast since we were leaving for an early tour. The ladies who cleaned our rooms were phenomenal!

TanzaniaRooms were okay but the door was a bit cumbersome to open and close. There were 4 charging sockets in the room and only one worked on one side of the bed. Shower thing by the pool wasn't working either.
The dining area is great, you can eat while feeling the sand underneath your feet. We enjoyed the fish curry at lunch, it was absolutely delicious. The whole outside area was quite beautiful, relaxing and spacious. The staff were friendly and helpful- Ussi even helped us rent bicycles to ride along the beach and overall we felt quite safe and well taken care of. The whole place was very quiet, no loud music, no noisy neighbours or construction or even dogs barking just the sound of waves and birds and the soft breeze and every once in a while a pretty Maasai by the beach saying ' 'Jambo' 'Hakuna Matata'

RomaniaAir con only between 6-9 in the evening. The bathrooms can be redecorated. Long time waiting for breakfast to be served.
The garden is perfect to stay during the evenings and to enjoy the ocean and drinks. There you can feel the wind and stay for long nights. The food is delicious and staff is very friendly. Every day, catch of the day is different and you can try different fishes. Fruits served for breakfast are delicious. They clean the pool and room every day.

United Kingdom1) Internet connection was not great and not available in the rooms would be nice to have a booster closer to the rooms to increase wi-fi coverage. 2) Drinking water is only available in plastic bottles which are not refillable. Waste is a big problem in Zanzibar and would be nice to see the use of 20L reusable bottles in a dispenser which can be used to fill glasses. This would help reduce waste.
We loved staying at Makuti Beach Bungalows. The rooms facing the ocean are wonderful. Breakfast was delicious with a large variety of options. Staff are very friendly and accommodating. Our kids spent hours in the pool and playing in the sand. And the ocean… what can you say? Beautiful!

United KingdomWhen we arrived the manager attempted to to put us in a room with no outside space over the restaurant and not the sea view bungalow with terrace we had specifically requested/booked/paid for. Although we explained our dissatisfaction he said no other room was available at that time. However, upon complaining he moved us to the room we had booked! It soured the start of our holiday. So beware, if they are busy, and it happens to you, do not accept a room of a lesser quality than you booked.
We had a fantastic sea view bungalow (eventually, see negatives). Breakfast was plentiful and excellent. The grounds were extremely clean and well maintained. The rooms were large and clean with a lovely day bed on the terrace for shady views of the beach in front. Lovely clean pool was a blessing to avoid the beach sellers and when the tide was low. The food was fine at the hotel but there is a great range of local restaurants nearby and in Paje (15min walk). Its a quiet beach in front of the hotel which suited us as the busier, more touristy beach of Paje, was only a short walk away along the beautiful beach. Helpful staff at the hotel helped us arrange, via WhatsApp, the 'Travel permit' needed to hire a scooter from one of the guys on the beach.

BelgiumIdeal for a quiet stay away from the very busy Paje while being at 5 minutes drive from all facilities. The location right on the beach with privacy is incredible! Staff, Food and Cocktail are great. The limited number of bungalows ensure maximum service and calm. The setting might be what heaven looks like if there is one 😉

United KingdomI know it's Africa and electricity is a problem, but Aircon is something we put as a no. 1 priority on our hotel choice. Our aircon (and lighting) worked sporadically and it was explained that because they use solar power and a generator it doesn't always work. I think it would work (especially at night when you need it) if they turn the generator on! We were told by staff that the owner didn't want to use the generator because it costs money. We had better electricity supply in a wild camp in the Serengeti! So don't go expecting A/C. Also you need to use something to wedge the bathroom door closed.....
Beautiful beachfront location in a quiet area. Good food. Relaxed atmosphere. Most of the staff were very helpful, when you could get their attention away from their phones! All staff were friendly and easy to chat to. Small hotel. Not expensive. The pool is a lifesaver if the tide is out! Small but clean and not crowded.

RomaniaIt is located 2 km from Paje and unfortunately the beach is unkempt compared to the one in Nungwi or Paje. It is dirty with algae and the water has a dirty appearance. We used to walk 2 km every day to reach a clean beach.
it is a very nice accommodation in Zanzibar style. The breakfast was delicious

United StatesI was frustrated with the lack of functioning AC, despite the website saying there would be AC. My room also lost power during the night (meaning no fan) with nobody responding to a phone call. I would also note they only provide one very small cup of coffee with breakfast in the morning. There were also wild dogs that were allowed on the property and several of them jumped up on me without staff trying to chase them away. Given the prevalence of rabies, this was very concerning to me. I would also let visitors know that you are trapped at this location (and other nearby locations) during high tide - which means you either need to get back or be prepared to wait out the high tide at beach-side restaurants/bars.
