Overhead fans would have cooled the room better than floor fans. It was quite stuffy inside once you had to close the windows against mosquitos around 4.30pm. Fly screens you could put up at night would be great, so you could keep doors and windows open. The bathroom was a bit difficult, you had to step on the round wooden log pieces to get around & they weren’t that close together. But these are minor things in an otherwise great place.

Our room was right on the beach, you could walk straight into the water to snorkel. Amazing! The view of the water from the room was stunning. Nice to fling the curtains open at sunrise and look out. The restaurant0 was great, a great location to sit and watch the beach. We checked out a few other restaurants on the beach but we thought this was the best. Lots of good food & drink options. The staff were super friendly & they even carried our bags over the sand to our room.

We liked everything. Was just perfect.

The location was amazing, right in the reef. We had no words when we saw our room. It was a small house literally in the sand, with big windows towards the bay. It was paradisiac! When we went snorkling, we saw a diversity of colored fish. Just perfect! The restaurant was also good, with inexpensive meals. The staff was really nice and did everything that could to fulfill our requests.

Property is great I loved it. New sun beds for guests would be a bonus. I would love to see some signs saying DONT stand on the coral as some people have no idea . Get rid of the plastic straws and use sugar cane ones.

Location was everything. Room so much better than I expected … big view and soft bed ! Ask for room 5 or 6. Great food ,lovely beach the snorkelling was incredible!!! Great for families as little kids can safely see all the fish.

Access, no market at a walking distance but you don’t really need as you have everything at Mae Haad at your arrival/departure of the island.

The best bay to stay! We came for the snorkeling it was perfect, we even saw turtles. The owner and the team is great, very friendly and make you feel home. Spacious climatised rooms in the small building and direct access to the beach. The breakfast and restaurant were excellent 👍 ! There is a PADI dive center on the bay, only few meters walking on the beach. We organised some visits, the operators pick you up at the hotel as we didn’t feel like renting scooters due to the difficult access and big up and down tight roads on Koh Tao.

Perfect place. In front of the sea: the paradise! The woman who manage the hôtel is welcome. The food is very good and not so expensive for Ko Tao. The room and the bathroom are huge! Calm area to do snorkeling all the day!

The bathroom wasn't as clean as we would have liked upon arrival but they cleaned it again when we asked. If you're looking to go out and party or have easy access to lots of other places, this spot might not be for you. But we weren't looking for that so it's no problem.

The location is unbeatable if you'd like a quiet spot to relax on the beach. It's only a few feet from what appears to be some of the best snorkeling on the island. You can rent a mask for a few dollars and snorkel all day and enjoy all the bright colored fish and coral. The food is pretty solid for a small place that's relatively remote. There are a few other hotels next door on the beach that have bars/restaurants. The family and staff are also very kind.

Bathroom was very not clean. Shower looked like if haven't been cleaned for a long time. Toilet was not clean as well. The room itself was clean and nice. Nothing to do around but we were just enjoying the place.

Probably the best location on the Tanote bay. Excellent entry to the water and beautiful corals. Quite good food in their restaurant (but not all the options). Lovely people working there. Very quiet at night. Good aircon. Great view from the room. The room was very spacious and excellent for 3 persons.

Fridge made a lot of noise so I put it in the enormous bathroom. The rest of the place (restaurant, beach front) was nice but it was at some places getting a bit worn. Nevertheless the very friendly staff, good food and very good breakfast, easily made up for it. They don’t have a swimming pool, yet there is one at Buddha view diving which you can use so that was also not a big miss. Stayed there 4 nights with 2 small kids.

Very nice place, amazing views and very good for snorkelling as well! Luxurious and large rooms. We had the 3 bedroom one, right at the beach. With glass all around the view was amazing.

This is our second stay at Mountain Reef Beach Resort. Excellent the last time, excellent this time. The resort is located on the beach in Tanote Bay. A very privileged location. This is the best location on Koh Tao as far as we are concerned. The snorkeling is pretty good. We booked a king room on the second floor. The bed is comfy, the AC is cold, the shower is hot, there is a refrigerator, safe, and plenty of space to put your things. You have a big outside deck with chairs to sit. The restaurant is excellent. Both the breakfast and the dinners are excellent. They rent snorkel gear, they can book you an all around the island snorkeling trip, and they can get you a ride to and from the ferry. The staff is extremely friendly and are always available to help. They have a well stocked ice cream refrigerator to purchase treats. The resort is quiet and relaxing. Couldn't ask for a better stay. Right on the beach you can hear waves whilst you sleep. The staff were so lovely. My son was ill, they wrote us a sweet note and gave us paracetamol, very thoughtful. It’s only 10mins ride to the pear, really close. They have a nice taxi man that picked up and drive us around the island. The food is delicious. Everything we had was super tasty! Kids enjoyed the best banana pancakes & fruit shakes!

+ travelling with a 1.5 yo kid, we highly recommend this place for a couple of days + very friendly staff: family-run place with kind people + excellent food for reasonable prices (restaurant open all day long, you don’t need any groceries, just go to the restaurant whenever you are hungry) + very calm and secluded + great taxi driver („Nine“) who you can directly contact via WhatsApp for any trips and pickups around the island (300-400 Baht one way, depending on where you go) + location on the southern end of Tanote bay, excellent for snorkeling with a private beach area + room much nicer than on pictures („triple room with sea view“)
