Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta, Iceland, Australia, Greece, Brazil and North Carolina. For properties in these regions, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.

By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

PortugalThe wifi stopped working a few times, and it wouldn't work as well outside of the room (not always though). The water pressure wasn't the best, and sadly we had a lot of issues with getting hot water. Since it was hot out, we never actually complained or asked reception to see what was wrong, but I'm sure they would have done their best to sort it all out! One thing I'd change would be the pick-up times. The last one available is at 4:45pm which is a bit early. You can of course get a taxi after this time, but you'll have to pay a lot more (around 400 baht).
The staff were wonderful! Everyone we interacted with was so helpful and kind - James, Mio, Nin (I wish we had asked and remembered everyones' names!). They helped us with everything, from booking a snorkeling tour to arranging pick-ups to the pier. The staff in charge of breakfast was so friendly and patient, and the room was made up every single day. The resort is located far away from the crowds, which makes the stay a lot more peaceful and comfortable.

United StatesThe property is a little run down overall, but they are doing renovations currently, and the resort is priced appropriately given the current state. Note that we never experienced disruption due to the renovations happening which was appreciated. It’s also a bit far from things so either be prepared to pay to take the resort’s taxi or rent a scooter. There’s at least 4 places on Montalay beach by the resort (including the resort’s bar/restaurant) where you can eat if you don’t want to venture back into the harbor/Sairee beach area.
Being able to snorkel right off the beach (and see turtles, baby shark, rays, tiny octopus, and lots of variety of fish) was so awesome! The customer service of staff was great too.

SwitzerlandThere was a renovation of a restaurant at the time we stayed there, which was pretty loud and smell of painting was also not great. Hotel should notify on booking website upfront. We found out only just when we arrived. Very bad lighting in the bathroom, impossible to shave for men. Poor choice for breakfast, just fruits, vegetables, one type of yogurt, butter, toasts and chicken sausages. They also offer eggs different style. That’s all. We found out we can order pancakes and ate pancakes every morning, they were great.
Location is very quiet, just a few other hotels/ rooms in the neighborhood. Convenient place to stay if you plan to go diving. Breakfast was good, once we found out they can make pancakes for you. Overall staff was very friendly and welcoming.

United KingdomHotel is a little dated and weathered. Some construction was going on at the time of our stay, although it didn’t disturb us too much.
We stayed for five nights and had an overall great experience. The hotel is a little far out of the way so a scooter is definitely recommended (be careful on the very steep hills). A simple breakfast is provided and the room is spacious. Hotel were helpful to organise a scooter and transfers for us.

RussiaThe rooms are not fresh anymore and the floor always feels not clean. No slippers provided. Rooms not sound-proof, you hear everything.
Hotel located in a very nice bay with a lot of fish and some turtles. Be careful as the water is not deep and need to mind the corals. The staff is always willing to help you with any problem! They pick you up on the pier when you arrive and there is qn affordable transfer to the main town and few bays around from the hotel shuttle. If you don’t drive a bike - comes very handy as taxis are so overpriced in Koh Tao. Breakfast always has fresh fruit and different thai dish every day. They also have a dish of the day for just 109 tbt, which is a bargain. Main menu in the restaurant is great, everything I ordered was delicious.

Switzerland- The bed was not very comfortable. - Only Instant Coffee. - Not the hotel’s fault, but depending on the current there are days, where a lot of plastic garbage washes up on the beach, which is very sad.
The hotel is nicely located at chilled and calm Tanote Bay, which is great for snorkeling. The staff is very friendly and welcoming. The rooms are modern and spacious.

United KingdomYou get a free pickup from the pier on arrival. However have to pay 100TBH if you want to use the service to go back out anywhere. I was also charged 300TBH for a stained bed sheet, which I thought was a bit unfair.
The property is rated well for a 3 star hotel. Breakfast isn’t bad, and the staff are helpful in the restaurant area.

NetherlandsIt's pretty obvious Thailand has been hit by the pandemic and this resort is behind on maintenance. Several small things were broken but none of these are serious issues. They've supposedly been bought out and I've a feeling it'll be improved gradually over the next coming months/year as construction was going on here and there. Breakfast was really it's biggest downer. There are plenty of choices but the food is among the worst we've had in Thailand. We had dinner there once as well and this wasn't very good either. Another big downer was often being surrounded by the smell of smoking and blowing tourists when sitting at the pool.. There are ashtrays everywhere and I'd think people needing to smoke should find a designated area to do so. I'm sure smokers feel differently though, as they always do. Despite the room being closed all day we still had some mosquitos in the room coming in from the air-conditioning vent. Staff cleans the room and clearly works with some anti bug spray so we didn't get bitten a lot. Also, this is an island, getting bitten kinda comes with the territory, I suppose. At night, the light from the hallway shines into your room, coming in from the windows in the bathroom. You can't darken your room that way. Blackening out those windows would help a lot. The bathroom is poorly lit. Yes, it feels cozy, but an extra light would help a lot. Overall we feel that if the downsides would be improved this place would easily get a 9/10 and without the location this place is worth just a 7. We hope they'll manage to turn things around and we can come back in the near future.
We decided to stay here because we traveled with 2 small children and didn't want to travel up and down to a beach every day. This resort absolutely has one of the best spots at Koh Tao. The beach, located just about 100 meters away from our room, really offers fantastic snorkeling experiences. I expected needing to swim further into the sea first but the fish and coral are pretty much right at your feet. The beach itself is kept very clean and there are plenty of toys for kids to play with in the sand. The resort has several other things going for it. During our many travels through Asia we've learned to expect the worst from showers but the shower here is hot and powerful. I think the bathroom has been modernized as it looked newer than the rest of the room. The resort has a good pool for both young and old to freshen up everyday. I read comments on how the pool is in the shadows and although at first we didn't like it either we later learned this is rather pleasant so you don't burn up in the sun every time you get out. It's safer for the kids as well and with temperatures at Koh Tao the pool never felt cold. Reception is helpful and speaks very good English. They helped us out with a snorkeling trip and booking the ferry back to the mainland when the website for Lomprayah made me want to book a trip for January 1970. There is plenty of fresh water in the room. The resort manages a bonus system during if you don't ask for housekeeping you get a voucher for a free meal. The air-conditioning in the room can be set to freezing cold and the place is very, very quiet at night which was lovely. Wi-fi was fantastic. We had internet everywhere, not just in the room but at the pool as well. I've rarely had Wi-Fi this great in Thailand. There are several other restaurants nearby offering good food.

SwedenA bit expensive and "boring" menu. Better alternatives on beach. Had to pay for Transfer back to pier, only pick-up is included. Family room only had 2 chairs on the big balcony. Why not 4? A bit worn down. The beach needs better cleaning from the different resorts and restaurants.

GermanyAll very small things: Restaurant was ok regarding the food but the lights at dinner time are so bright that it felt uncomfortable for us to sit there for a while. There are other options around with nicer atmosphere. (Still the staff was super nice) Our room was back-site on the top so no sea view but the road is not noisy at night so ok for us. Balcony furniture could need some cushion for more comfort.
Staff was super nice that offers good service for daily activities, room was modern and we got the option for an extra bed for our child, very good location directly at Tanote Beach, very good breakfast.

GermanyA bathrobe would have been nice, most 3 star hotels we went to had this. Be aware that the location is quite remote, you need a taxi/scooter to everything else you might want. We liked the quiet though. We were there over New Years, so the price was very high, even for the location and standard. But I guess that's the way it is in high season. Restaurant prices were also quite high, the restaurant next door on the beach was decently priced.
Location is great of course, right by a top snorkeling beach. Nice pool, ok restaurant. Diving school right next door. We had a superior room with AC, it was comfortable, rather new bathroom. Everything was very clean. Staff is exceptionally friendly and helpful. Leave a tip!
