Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta, Iceland, Australia, Greece, Brazil and North Carolina. For properties in these regions, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. NetherlandsIt's hard to find faults and all these are minor. The hill up to the room is very steep and would be difficult for those with mobility issues (but we rented a moped so often just drove to the top!). We also found the pillows a bit too thin but that is I guess a personal choice.
This place is incredible! Everything about it exceeded our expectations with stunning views from the large balcony, lots of clean and comfortable space within the room and wonderful friendly owners and staff. You can watch squirrels and hornbills from the comfy hammock and we slept every night with the glass doors to the balcony open to wake up to the bay view. The breakfast is also fabulous, every morning mango sticky rice, a fruit shake and an option of egg or pancake with unlimited toast, tea and coffee with lovely views. You can rent a moped which is very reasonably priced and the staff can also organise boat trips, kayaks etc. for you. There are a few nice restaurants within easy walking distance, including a few on the beach which is just at the bottom of the hill and a lovely cafe. It was also great to have a decent sized fridge in our room where the cleaning ladies gave us water every day and we could store our own drinks.

United StatesI, mistakenly, rented a room with no air con and it is was extremely hot and humid during my stay 8/7-11/7 which made sleeping difficult. My own fault and I had to cover myself in mosquito spray 24/7 and sleep inside of the net since I slept with the doors open. I'm sure during the drier season it would have been perfect.
The property is absolutely beautiful with gorgeous views of the islands. It is quite the uphill hike so make sure you are fit to make the climb. The staff/family is so kind and attentive. Breakfast was amazing and served right on the hill overlooking the water and nearby islands. It is so quiet and I spent majority of my time laying in my hammock on the terrace, as there were many afternoon storms during my stay. Just down the hill and to the right are some great beach restaurants and just a little bit more of a walk is a lovely massage place. I did not rent a scooter so my time was spent exploring on foot. If you are able to drive a scooter this is the best way to fully explore the island.

SwitzerlandMosquitoes are an annoying part of being located in such a beautiful place surrounded by Jungle. Luckily, a mosquito net is supplied over the bed along with mosquito repellent spray.
What a special place is Hillhouse. The family- run Bungalows are incredible, and the owners are so kind and helpful. We looked forward to breakfast each day. It was delicious! Best Mango Sticky rice for starters. Pancakes with fresh fruit or cooked eggs of your choice. Help yourself to toast and jam. Coffee and Tea, and even a fresh fruit smoothie. Would love to return!!

NetherlandsHillhouse was the highlight of our trip! The place if beautiful and quiet, so many animals to see. But the best part was the staff, so welcoming and friendly. They took care with every detail and the boat tour with don was amazing! The breakfast made us happy to wake up early :) we would definitely stay here again and again when in Koh Yao Noi!

Myanmar-Pillows too hard for me -Instant coffee for breakfast -June is low season, so lots of places around were closed (of course this has nothing to do with Hillhouse, and the upside is that it's even more peaceful!)
-Peaceful, quiet bungalows in the middle of nature, nestled into the lush green hill and overlooking the stunning bay. Nature is all around, including hornbills and many many more types of fauna and flora. I was surprised to find almost no insects inside the bungalow (as it is open in spaces), minding the light at night surely helped. -The owners are lovely people, the breakfast a treat, loved the colors and little flowers they added to decorate. -I was glad to rent a scooter at Hillhouse to get around the island, the owner even took the time to give me a mini-training as I'd never used one before. -If you are a coffee lover, make sure to visit Coffee Cup Cafe Yao Noi Island and support the very friendly owner - she has an Italian espresso machine!

AustraliaQuiet peaceful location amidst beautiful tropical gardens with stunning limestone karst views. I appreciated the design of the bungalow, open and airy, with large glass bi-fold doors which open onto the deck to make the most of the natural surrounds and the magnificent views. The double bed was large and comfortable with mosquito netting. The bungalow was serviced daily and was always spotlessly clean. Some of the bungalows have aircon but I specifically chose one without as I find the fans more to my preference and sufficient to keep me comfortable. The breakfast was nice, delicious and nutritious, and beautifully presented in the open dining area - with those views! The owners are always (I've stayed here before) so friendly and helpful - hire a motor scooter from them and explore the island!

SwitzerlandWe stayed in the standard room with fan (called Lek 1). The bungalow is not completely isolated, with openings in the bathroom and ceiling. Insects and salamanders can come in. It is still safe and with the mosquito net over the bed, we were not disturbed while sleeping. However, for people that are not so outdoorsy and are afraid, we are leaving here this small note, and perhaps you can book other rooms that are completely isolated
View. Location. Host hospitality. Breakfast. Possibility of scooter rental to go around the island. Transportation to the pier for boat trip

United KingdomWe loved everything, only wish we could have stayed longer.
The accommodation itself is beautiful, with amazing views over the bay and lots of rhinoceros hornbills in the trees. But the family who run the Hill house are the best part. They are so warm, welcoming and helpful. The food at breakfast is lovely and the family now also have a restaurant called bay view where you can get dinner which is delicious.

United KingdomI think there's only 2 negative points to mention. One was that the toilet was a bit weird, as the shower was not separated from the rest of the toilet so the whole floor became wet after showering. The other point is that the doors to the "house" had some spaces between the walls, so bugs could come in and out during day and night. Gladly the bed had a mosquito net, but it's something to consider improving in the future!
This was one of the best hotels we stayed, getting the real Thailand experience. It had amazing views, it was very quiet and it was quite unique as you felt you were almost glamping! The staff was really kind and helped us every day which made the experience even more special. They helped us to organise boat trips, rental bikes and itineraries and were always there to help with a smile. I highly recommend for anyone staying in Koh Yao Noi! (and if you're staying in another island, consider coming here ;D)

United StatesWhat a special place! We planned to stay on Koh Yao Noi for two nights and the Hill House but decided to extend our stay to four nights as we loved the island and Hill House so much. Don and family were extremely welcoming, kind, and helpful highlighting unique places to visit on the island. Breakfast is amazing with sticky rice and mango every morning and you get to choose what kind of seasonal smoothie you would like and eggs or Thai pancake. We chose to stay in a room with fam and had no trouble without AC, we were even slightly chilly one night! The bungalows are absolutely gorgeous with amazing views and well maintained. You can tell there is a lot of love put in to everything at the Hill House. Don’t miss out on taking an island hoping tour with Don. He took us to remote places to snorkel and we even saw monkeys! His boat is very quiet and comfortable. We were sad to leave the Hill House and hope to return one day! Could not recommend kk enough.

AustraliaNot really major but a blanket on the bed instead of just a sheet and a large towel would have been great.
Absolutely perfect place. Close on scooter to everything you could need. The view is obviously the best part of the stay but the room itself is perfect too. You can pay an extra $20 AUD for aircon but with two fans in the room it wasn’t needed.
