Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta, Iceland, Australia, Greece, Brazil and North Carolina. For properties in these regions, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomFantastic secluded location, very relaxed place to stay, 5 min boat ride or walk at low tide to busier beaches. Bungalows are 5 mins walk from the beach in the jungle with plenty of nature around, bungalows are a bit basic but clean and well maintained. Limited internet but better for it. A very relaxed 3 days stay at a great price.

Best chill vibes in town. Staff is great, bar is good, atmosphere is amazing. Rooms are quite big. Worth staying. You'll meet some good people there

VietnamI realized too late that the place was charging over double the price for a similar room in the other bungalow spots in Tonsai. Would recommend once you arrive asking around for the prices in other places and maybe moving for a cheaper option once you have arrived
There is a good vibe at the place and probably one of the better places to get to know other people. The staff was very friendly and helpful!

United KingdomThe dorm itself was ok, small for 4 people but luckily there dorm wasn't full when I was there. There is only electricity from 6pm -5am which meant that the fan shuts off early in the morning, in 35 degree heat I was waking up VERY hot each morning making it unbearable for me personally. This wouldn't have been an issue if I had visited at a colder time of the year however!
Waking up to monkeys & bird song each morning was honestly magical. I really enjoyed sitting on the terrace each morning. Only a 10 mins walk to the beach, lots of restaurants and bars nearby. The staff who work at chill out are all friendly and helpful, they kindly changed my bed sheets for me when I asked. They also have a climbing shop inside run by a guy called Max who is such a legend! A good spot to meet other climbers.

SwitzerlandStaff not very attentive (and very alternative style), quite pricey. There are cheaper bungalows close by, for just a little extra you get a nice hotel next door
Spacious bungalows, big property, clean rooms, all nicely maintained (for Thai standards) and very relaxing flair, very good bathroom for Thailand

United KingdomNumber one issue is the limited availability of the electricity supply - works only from 5-6pm to 5am which makes sleeping in the early morning very uncomfortable (no fan). I asked why this is the case. Answer from owner was it was to save money on fuel for the generator! I wasn't particulary impressed by that, having stayed at another hotel in Tonsai for half the price but with 24hr power in every room.
Location. Plenty of interesting bars and restaurants nearby. Good choice of communal spaces in the grounds to chill out. Friendly and relaxed.

CanadaThe rooms were pretty run down. The mattresses were well worn and need to be replaced. The bathroom was dirty, toilet was falling apart, and the towels they gave us were stained. We didn't hangout much in there anyways, but a little more effort would have been nice. There is also apparently WiFi in the common area at all times, but I think it worked once in the 3 days we were there.
This is definitely the best spot to stay in Tonsai. Amazing communal hangout spot out front with a restaurant, bar, treehouse, and slack line. They had a fire show one of the days we were there, which was awesome. They also play great music. :) The climbing shop on site is fantastic and the two guys who run it are incredibly nice. Highly recommend renting gear or doing a day of climbing with them.

United KingdomThe property is still recovering from covid and trying to balance repairing bungalows to be able to get back to full capacity whilst maintaining the ones that are occupied. It’s a difficult balance, do not expect it to be perfect.
Excellent location. We much preferred Tonsai beach! The whole place has a lovely atmosphere. It is very chilled. By booking here you are supporting a more locally owned business. After you book you will receive a message, read it carefully so you know what to expect. We loved it! But it won’t be for everyone. It is only a short walk from the beach and the views around are gorgeous! Look out for the dusky leaf monkeys, they are gorgeous! We would return again.
