Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

SerbiaWe have arrived at 10pm and even though check in is after 4pm, we did not get our room before midnight!! You have to go to hotel Zatoka for an extremely slow check-in. Once we got the key, we went to the apartment to another building. There was no light around and we had to use our phones. Apartment was not cleaned after the last guests. We went back to complain and they told us at the reception that cleaning lady went to sleep - like that is my problem! Then she did several calls and offered a room in Zatoka. Zatoka room was nicer but again not cleaned. Then we waited again and she gave us keys to another room in yet another building that we had to search with the flash light in the middle of the night. We went there and that room was not cleaned as well! It felt like someone is joking with us!! To add to that, receptionist is not speaking english and she even asked me to translate between her and another arabic speaking customer that is as well not speaking english - all that while we are waiting to hear if we are going to have any room at all. Eventually, she went with us to again another building and wanted to leave us in a room where bath cabin doors are broken and placed within the cabin itself so it cannot be used. We did not accept that and went to search for another room. She had no clue where that room was and took us by mistake to one stairs, then down, then another stairs and again down. Eventually we got in the room that was sort of acceptable. It seemed cleaned at the first look, but sheets had stains, hair and pillows were all kinds of yellow. We took clean towels, put around the pillows and below us, slept in clothes as it seems like a place that could give you all sorts of bacteria.. We asked for a full refund, but instead got only 15eur back. What a shame, this place should be closed or at least removed from booking!!

Czech RepublicWe try to use benefit of online checkin, but we have to find the reception for extra fees: - city tax - parking fee (€6) - deposit fee (don't pay by card, you will wait to refund few days after your checkout). We got an apartment with damaged bathroom door. It was not possible to close the door and they just say sorry… finally we got another apartment in next building of Relax hotel: - uncomfortable hard mattresses - moldy curtain in the shower - it smelled in the bathroom At checkout you need to wait in long queue until they check the room.
