Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta, Iceland, Australia, Greece, Brazil and North Carolina. For properties in these regions, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Ukrainethe rooms are in need of renovation
This is definitely not a 5-star hotel. The swimming pool is quite old, and the rooms are in need of renovation. However, the reception area is beautiful.

SloveniaThe worst part were swimming pools all inside and outside. They did not look clean and water had really unpleasant smell that lingered on the skin and swimming suits. Also most of the sun umbrellas around the pool were broken so we couldn't use them for shade.
We left our stay with mixed feelings. Parts of the hotel are stunning (reception hall, dining room) and some need renovation and upgrading, especially pools and exterior. Room was beautifully but the air conditioning was very old and it couldn't cool down the room, so it was quiet hot in the room, it was also loud. The staff at the reception was very kind and helpful all days of our stay. We really liked the breakfast with nice selection and stunning views. We liked that the parking was free. And the hotel has great location.

AustriaThis hotel did not specify on its website that there is a charge for bringing a small dog; it only mentioned that there might be a fee. However, as soon as one of the reception staff saw my small dog, they stopped me and said I had to pay 27 euros per night for the dog. The hotel should clearly state on its website that a 27-euro fee will be charged for bringing a pet. This unpleasant action by the hotel negatively affected my opinion of it. In response to my objection, they stated that this amount is for the special cleaning of the room due to the presence of a pet. However, until the last day, no special cleaning for the dog was done in the room.
Positives: A very good location, and the presence of two staff members at the reception (Miss Katja and...) who were not only fluent in German but also very polite and kind.

SloveniaThe speed of response when booking was poor, which added to the overall dissatisfaction. A swift and efficient booking process as well as cleanliness is crucial for any high-end hotel, and this was noticeably lacking. Breakfast was somewhat of a disappointment, with either overbaked or undercooked items. This inconsistency in food quality was another letdown. The dining area also suffered from the same cleanliness issues as the room, with dirty glasses, and spoons being a recurring problem. The staff shortage was evident, and it severely impacted the service quality. The lack of employees to uphold the hotel's 5-star supreme standards was apparent, with some staff members even unable to speak Slovenian. This language barrier significantly hindered communication and the overall guest experience. Cleanliness issues persisted, with filthy coffee cups, glasses, and spoons once again making an appearance. This was a consistent problem throughout my stay, despite everything else in the room being in order. Such lapses in cleanliness are unacceptable for a hotel of this rating.
My stay at Metropol Portorož, situated in a room with a partial sea and mountain view, was a blend of delightful moments and notable drawbacks. While the room itself was up to standard, several issues detracted from what should have been a 5-star supreme experience. The partial sea and mountain view offered a pleasant backdrop, but the enjoyment was significantly hindered by strong winds on the balcony. This created an unpleasant situation with ashes and trash being blown around, even landing on me and in my coffee, wine, and tea. The balcony experience, therefore, was far from relaxing and needs addressing. The farewell gift provided at the end of my stay was a thoughtful and appreciated gesture. It added a touch of personalization and care to the overall experience. In conclusion, Metropol Portorož offers a mix of positive elements marred by significant shortcomings. While the room and view had their charm, the persistent cleanliness issues, inadequate staff, inconsistent dining experience, and poor booking response need urgent attention. These aspects prevent the hotel from truly living up to its 5-star supreme designation.

SloveniaHowever, a notable shortcoming was the language proficiency among the staff. Surprisingly, not all staff members were multilingual, and some even lacked proficiency in Slovene. This is a considerable oversight for a hotel of such purported caliber, where seamless communication is paramount. The room experience was marred by the cleanliness issues encountered. The coffee cups, both large and small, spoons, regular glasses, wine glasses, and champagne glasses, as well as the bathroom towels, were all disappointingly filthy. This lack of attention to detail significantly detracted from the otherwise luxurious ambiance of the room. Additionally, the minibar was understocked, and the balcony, despite offering a potentially splendid view, was let down by deteriorating chairs that urgently need replacing. The dining experience was somewhat hampered by an insufficient number of staff, which affected the overall service quality and failed to meet the 5-star expectations.
Staying at the Metropol Portorož, advertised as a 5-star supreme hotel, was an experience that mostly met the high standards expected, though certain aspects fell short, particularly when judged by Euro standards. While the hotel's interior largely lived up to its prestigious rating, the exterior could use significant improvements. The area surrounding the hotel, its facade, and color scheme did not exude the grandeur expected of a 5-star supreme establishment. The staff at Metropol Portorož were accommodating and exceptionally friendly, which added a welcoming touch to the stay. The room was a highlight of the stay—gorgeous, spacious, and meeting the expected standards for a 5-star supreme hotel. The hotel boasted a delightful selection of breakfast and dinner options, catering to a wide range of tastes and preferences. The location of Metropol Portorož is truly wonderful, adding a significant appeal to the stay. The hotel’s private outdoor pool by the beach, complemented by complimentary deckchairs and shade umbrellas, provided a luxurious and relaxing experience. The on-set bar by the pool was a delightful addition, offering convenience and a touch of indulgence. In conclusion, Metropol Portorož delivers a mixed experience. While the interior and certain amenities reflect the high standards of a 5-star supreme hotel, several areas require urgent attention. The cleanliness issues, language proficiency of the staff, and the state of the exterior and balcony furnishings are areas that need improvement. With these adjustments, Metropol Portorož could truly live up to its prestigious rating and offer an unparalleled experience to its guests. As it stands, it merits an overall rating closer to 4 stars by Euro standards.

ItalyThe first thing which was not expected was about the changing bed sheet after 3 days. This happened on 4star and below but 5star usually change one alternative day. The other one is about fried or boiled eggs on breakfast were cold all those 4 days. Also TV was very old style. The cleaning of the room were done every day but unfortunately the toilet was not checked and clean. On checkin day, we parked the car right in front of the entrance and after getting the parking card, moved there but bringing all the suitcases from parking to the room was a big hassle because there were no direct elevator from parking to the main building which we were not informed by staff. There was another issue which made me not to choose this hotel for the next time is ignorance, 3 days before checkin, I send a message to the hotel about my birthday and if they have anything for me to celebrate my birthday but till now they didn’t reply, also when I was there again I asked but still nothing, then I had to go out of hotel to another hotel in order to celebrate my birthday, they didn’t even send me a piece of chocolate. Disappointing
Amazing big room, lovely breakfast and the facilities included was so worth it, like free parking, swimming pool. Also the dinner which was extra cost was really good and worth it. Lovely staff and amazing location. They offered a drinks on first day free of charge which was lovely when you arrive and still don’t have anything to drink.

the value for price is really immense. I thought it would be an old hotel from the communist era but it was nicely renovated. SloveniaA bit of a mix up at the beginning when we only got our room setup for one person. I feel like this shouldn't happen in a 5 star hotel. No other special things we didn't like
The hotel was good value for money. We loved the terrace and the free first refill of the minibar. Despite the fact that it is an older hotel with a more classic design, the hotel looks well maintained. The staff was friendly and the breakfast was good with a lot of choice. The location is good and the room with the sea view was a good choice for only 8 additional EUR.
