Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta, Iceland, Australia, Greece, Brazil and North Carolina. For properties in these regions, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

AustraliaNothing - it was all great
The location was amazing and the breakfast lovely. As we were the only people staying at the Kastellet, we didn't interact with staff (who left the keys and breakfast for us daily).

GermanyIt is really hard to travel from and to the island. Especially at night. Thought to get a taxi when we came from a concert at 11 pm, but they just don't answer the phone or have no boat available. It is also important to know that each trip you have to pay. Taxis will be expensive - up to 60-70 Euros for 5 minutes in the night. Breakfast was nice, but don't come late. Fruits and coffee might be gone 15 minutes before they close
Extraordinary location and a lot of things open 24 hours, like the tower with stunning views. Great piqueniqye areas. Nice walk around. Nice breakfast and you can sit outside. Experience sleeping in a castle is great POL tour was the best travel experience with a decent price.

Good Buffet Breakfast. Quiet and cozy. Can't beat the location. Go for a walk around the island. Or two :D

United StatesRoom smelled a bit dusty, and there was a lamp in the room that would turn off and on at random intervals.
Very cool to stay next to the fortress. Very cute decor inside and staff were friendly when we saw them for breakfast in the morning.

SwitzerlandYou have to pay for the boats that get you from Vaxholm to Kastellet, which costs 60 sek one way!! It’s literally 20 meters away… The boats also stop running at 5pm so it’s basically impossible to get dinner on the main island (there is nothing to eat in Kastellet) unless you book a private taxi boat which is even more expensive than the regular boat. We had not been warned about the schedule of the boat and my friend and I ended up being stuck on the island without any food for dinner. We got lucky because a private boat had dropped off a family so we were able to go with it. Very bad communication and organization from Kastellet…are you supposed to eat dinner before 5pm?? Kastellet is also supposed to be an B&B but there was no staff and no warm-feeling. It was self check in and basically self check out. Overall, Kastellet is a nice play to stay but they should have a better system with the boats (and give you more information about the times) and also improve the presence of the staff. It really felt impersonal. We did not enjoy our stay so much because of these reasons.
Nice room, very comfortable and clean. Living in a castle for a few nights was a fun experience.

FranceThe only negative point is that the B&B is only reachable by boat from Vaxholm and the price is quite high for such short trip (122 SEK for 1 person, both ways, for 2 minutes of boat trip).
The breakfast was good and the room was clean and comfortable.

BelgiumOverall stay was good. Although there's room to improve the entrance to the castle (e.g. some gardening, removing weeds, etc.). This could help in uplifting the face and first impression of the place.
A unique experience of staying in a castle in a tiny island in the Stockholm archipelago. The quiet grounds make for an interesting and calm stay, esp. after the last boat has left. Rooms are quiet, comfortable and minimally furnished. Bathrooms are shared, which were clean and tidy. Breakfast is an open buffet with local food items. The staff were extremely helpful.

GermanyDuring check-in, our keys were missing, so it had to be solved via phone at the place.
Historical exclusive location, nice view, great for walks and enjoying the view of the ferries and boats coming and going. Breakfast was good, and shared bathrooms worked well and were clean. Room was very classic and with an interesting history.

RussiaBe careful! You can only get to the castle by paying ferry for 57k per person. The paid ferry runs very rarely, we did not wait for the free one.

NetherlandsAlthough it was nice to stay in a castle, the transportation to VAXHOLM was minimal and very expensive. There was no staff available at the b&b which made it impersonal. We would have appreciated a sink in the room.

GermanyGetting there with several big heavy suitcases is difficult because of the gravel floor. A small path, woooden or tarmac, where suitcases could be rolled on would be great, if it were possible to put. The coffee at breakfast was really not good and a bit more variety of breads and some sweet options would be very good.
The surroundings are beautiful and the staff nice

Sweden3 years ago the little ferry to get to the island was free for guests at the bed and breakfast. It wasn't any longer, which is a hidden cost. 165kr return trip for one adult and child. Gets expensive after a while. Also, the last ferry leaves a bit early (19:40), so you have to make sure and time eating dinner with it.
Just cool to live in an old castle. Well situated to explore other islands (be sure to make use of the free yellow ferries!). Good breakfast, staff were friendly and helpful.

GermanyYou have to take a ferry to come to the kastellet and this is quite expensive ( 100kr) both ways. Especially if you want to travel more than once a day. The ferry stops at 19h40. There might be one occasion later with waxholmbolaget, but you need to call in advance. We have never seen someone at the reception. Only during breakfast time there are a lot of people. After that, place looks abandoned.
The extraordinary location. You are free to explore the kastellet and can walk around the island. Very relaxing Very comfortable beds. Big room ( with a view to the sea). Clean. Clean bathrooms. Check in very easily. The keys are on the deks. And you get a code for entering the reception. The rooms are simple but big.

United StatesWe were at the castle a few weeks before the Swedish midsummer peak season and so ferry service from the mainland to the castle was limited. The limited number of ferries required careful planning of our daily schedule to get an early enough 8:50am boat to Vaxholm to then travel further to other islands like Grinda. Since there is no dinner service on the castle island, we either needed to get dinner on Vaxholm or carry take-out back on the ferry to the castle. The last ferry was 9pm. With that schedule we weren't able to visit the museums on the castle island during the day. Probably during the peak season in the summer, this would not be a problem. Overall, it was a great visit.
Kastellet is an amazing location for fans of history. The bed and breakfast is located in a section of the old island fortress. You get a sense of what it would be like to be a soldier at the time walking by old cannons to get to your room. There is the old tower that you can climb to get a view of the harbor. It is fun to walk around the perimeter or the island outside the castle walls. The family room was well furnished and WiFi was good. Breakfast was good considering that the hotel was not that busy before the start of the summer season. The shared hallway bathrooms were fine.
