The room lighting was quite cozy but the desk could do with a better desk light for better visibility instead of a lamp.

Excellent service in a heritage hotel. Great hospitality by service staff and warm and welcoming ambience. Rooms were clean and neat. I was quite pleased with the ambience of the hotel room. Breakfast was excellent, especially dining in the sun room whereby there was a good balance between the old and new. This is definitely a location I will bring my family on leisure trips. It was also quite a Child-friendly location.

Parking is a short walk, about 150m from the hotel, which is fine as long as the weather is too.

Central location only metres from the train station.

    • The room was below ground level, so there was no view from the window. There were small windows at ground level that couldn’t be opened. • We arrived at 23:15 and had to find a parking spot on the street as the hotel parking was already full. • The staff was not as friendly this time.

Shower room: shower curtain too short and no shower tray so the whole bathroom got soaked during and after shower. Very narrow space (60-70cm ?) between wall and shower curtain so the curtain stuck to your body. Rail for shower head too high for me (155cm tall). System for shower head angling meant you could not stop the water hitting the curtain and making flooding worse. Had to use floor mat and the one hand towel provided to dam/ soak up the water but you still got wet feet and socks every time you used the bathroom after showering 🙁 Clothes storage: only 4 hangers for 2 people - it was winter so one each was needed to hang up our coats to dry which left one hanger each for all other clothes. The wardrobe also already contained a full-size ironing board, a fan and a heater - the only other storage space was a set of adjacent shelves but every shelf was already in use (safe, fridge, iron, hairdryer, cups, snacks, plastic bags). Where are you supposed to store clothes,?? Parking: we enquired about parking before arriving and were told that the hotel did have a car park. On arrival we paid for space in the car park but were not told that it is actually a handful of spaces within the car park of what looked like a church in the next street (no sign in the car park or at the entrance to announce any connection with any hotel). It was really frustrating driving in the dark on unfamiliar icey roads and traffic restrictions around the huge hotel building, trying to find the entrance to something that didn't exist... then having to find somewhere to pull up without blocking other drivers and then go back into the hotel for guidance 🙁

Location first class. Breakfast - food and room excellent. Public places impressive. Staff very helpful and welcoming. Heating very efficient.

Really grand hotel close to the centre of town. You are greeted in a grand entrance hall by friendly, bilingual staff. The rooms are accessed by two lifts at the far end of the hotel by the rear stairwell or an elegant stairway by reception. The rooms are clean and well kept. They may not be the most modern in style but have everything you could need, and they fit in very well with the style of the building. Some rooms have a view of the river, which in winter is a lovely sight to wake up to. There is a secure car park very close by, about a 2 minute walk, and an open car park even closer. The large breakfast room is very much of its time and could be refurbished while retaining it period features. There are multiple breakfast options to suit all tastes. The orange juice and coffee were very nice. The only downside was that the scrambled eggs and bacon were lukewarm to cold. I stayed here last year and don't remember this before, so maybe it was a one-off bad luck. One other small issue was that there are a lot of lamps and not a master light switch by the bed. I found you had to go around the room, turning off about 5 light switches. It's not a big problem, but one that I've found other hotels resolve with one switch by the bed.

This was our second stay and we were again not disappointed. The hotel has so much character and reflects the Grand hotel of times long past. The rooms are modern with comfy beds and marble bathrooms. The staff is very pleasant and friendly. This time, as it was Sunday, the restaurant was closed but the staff gave us a wonderful recommendation around the corner from the hotel and we enjoyed it so much. The breakfast, as we knew, left nothing to be desired.

The room was not cleaned properly, some dust a bit more than would have liked. Breakfast was not that good, some more fresh things would have been nice to have. Very basic selection.

Superb location and tentative staff. Beautiful building, with high ceilings and lot of history.

The parking situation is a mess. We paid for parking but there was no space for us when we arrived. The lot is about 2 blocks away from the hotel. The receptionist said they would refund me for the parking. We ended up parking on the street about 5 blocks from the hotel.

Good place to stay in Gavle. Lovely breakfast room and view.
