  • La Palapa Hut Nature Hostel Review score: 10

“Simple rooms, but a lovely place in total. You can see and hear a lot of animals there. Lovely staff. For the price everything you need in good shape. Would stay again :)”

  • “Location in the trees of the Costa Rican jungle, perfectly private, outdoor cold (but not too cold) shower under trees. Wildlife in abundance, from howler and spider monkeys in the trees above the cabin; to agoutis, leaf-cutter ants, various lizards and amphibians, crabs below it, plus stunning butterflies, toucans and scarlet macaws - one wonder after another. Christian is a kind, helpful, professional bilingual host, extremely knowledgeable about the flora and fauna, first-class tour guide and able to fix anything. Meals all prepared from fresh ingredients. My favorites were the breakfast fruits and dinners with avocados and freshly-caught fish. All staff was friendly and accommodating. It was the most peaceful, rejuvenating week I've ever had.”

  • Ocean Forest Ecolodge Review score: 9

“We really enjoyed our time here. The 3 course meals were absolutely delicious and varied each night. In fact some of the best food we had in Costa Rica mainly because they were plentiful in vegetables/salad! We were staying in the stilted beachfront cabin which was spotlessly clean and had a very comfy bed. I thought it might be a bit creepy (small critters coming in etc.) but it wasn’t at all like that. It was well sealed and felt ok. The sound of the ocean at night was great too. We hiked on a crazy trail to the far point (in the direction of another resort called Jungle Jaguar) and did a canoe tour up the Rio Claro with the guy running the hostel next door. That was fun. The beach directly in front of Ocean Forest is not safe for swimming but the neighbouring beach is fine and the river was lovely. We spent a fair bit of time in the hammocks at the main building - very comfy and relaxing. They were the perfect place to watch all the birdlife in the big palm each morning and at dusk. We saw lots of Scarlet McCaws from there.”

    “We haven’t have breakfast”

  • Cabinas Tropicales Review score: 8

“Nice outdoor space and great staff”

  • Bolita Trails and Lodging Review score: 10

“We stayed for over a week and saw an incredible amount of wildlife. Every day we saw something different and amazing whether it was monkeys, a sloth, invertebrates, birds (including toucans, swallow tailed kites, hummingbirds, trogons, woodpeckers, parrots, puffbirds, cuckoos), snakes, frogs. Ron, Val and the team do a really great job of maintaining the hostel and the trails. For such a remote location right in the middle of the rainforest the hostel is extremely well equipped including the kitchen, it looks picturesque, and is comfortable. I highly recommend staying here if you want to be truly immersed in nature and see a lot of wildlife.”

  • Cabinas Jimenez Review score: 9

“Beautiful room, but we paid extra for that. Good facilities and helpful staff. The hostel is in a great location.”

  • “The property was spread over a large piece of jungle with the swimming pool and restaurante at the top overlooking the Bay of Golfito; the everyday wildlife consisted of squirrel monkeys, green parrots and scarlet macaws and sloths were in residence…. The house (no 8) was a nice size and the kitchen and rooms well fitted out. The houses, 7,8,9 and 10 were built fairly close to each other with No 10 having the best outlook of them all. Having said that the views from the balconies were phenomenal.”
