Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomE erything was brilliant! No complaints at all whatsoever!
Everything about this place is lovely! Quiet yet accessible to the main amenities of Cascais. What a beautiful place to stay. Beds so comfy and the shower was most revitalising! But what makes Vila Vasco Da Gama is its staff . A special thanks to Ricardo and Daniele who made us most welcome from arrival to departure. They took such good care of us and were so friendly! We will be back Muito Obrigado from the Rooneys!❤️

CanadaBeing very tall I found it difficult to move around our room (#5) which was under the roof. Breakfast was generous but the coffee from the machine was really poor with disappointing capuccino. Real coffee and real milk please!
Quiet room, nice bedding. Very helpful and courteous staff were very quick to help me move my heavy suitcase. Lovely old house.

RomaniaStaff could be a bit friendlier.
Very beautiful building, very close to the center but away from the louder and busy areas. Went in winter so facilities are not available to use, but would be an excellent choice in the summer with the garden and the pool. Room was nice, warm (has AC), and offered complimentary water, beer and snacks.

The location is perfect and very centrally located to all of downtown Cascais. The staff are some of the best I have come across in all my travels around the world in 93 countries.

IrelandSurprised to see that if you want a barista coffee at breakfast say a mocha, expresso, cappuccino they are all paid extras, we thought a little mean for price of stay. Taxi price from airport to Cascais over €80 for 2 people however we learned our lesson and returned on the train / metro €11.
The property is located on a crossroads and walking into town centre is less than 10mins, when paths are wet, because of some parts steep could be difficult for people with walking difficulties. There are several routes into town all of which are very easy to navigate with lots of great restaurants. Breakfast is adequate and good selection, filter coffee and teas are on offer with great breads and pastries etc . we loved the location and the miles and miles you can walk on the promenade we did both directions nearly 20km each way. Cascais is located west of Lisbon about 40mins, we went a little earlier on our return on the train, this is so easy to do, we returned on train to Lisbon central put our luggage in a luggage locker and explored Lisbon for 4hrs before getting the metro straight to airport, price for these tickets was €11 for 2 people both train and metro excellent service. when you arrive in Lisbon train station if you come out front main entrance go left and across the road you will see a huge food hall, loads of every type of cuisine to sample its fab.

GermanyOnly minus point would be that downstairs where our room was, the Wifi was too weak to use. But because we didn't want to work, this did not bother us.
Everything was great - the room, facilities and especially the breakfast. We loved the staff and the incredibly beautiful room.

CanadaThe hotel changes your towels only after 3 days of stay. The room we stayed in was pretty tiny, not comfortable if you have 2 big luggage. See through curtains, so if you want to sleep you will have to hang a blanket over them. Floor was not cleaned before we arrived, I picked up a bunch of blonde hairs with my socks. No air conditioning!
Friendly staff. Great location for all those tourist-trap restaurants. SOYA noodle bar was actually good. They had freshly baked bread for breakfast. There was a bar and a hang out area in the lobby, open until midnight.

United StatesWell, while the breakfasts were fine, there were some hiccups. They didn’t seem to have croissants available from 9 am to closing. The toaster broke during our last day, so no toasted bread available. The scrambled eggs, and assortment of fruit, meats, cheeses, and breads were fine.
The cleanliness of the room, the ideal location (less than a 5 minute walk to downtown), the quiet neighborhood setting, the comfort of the bed, and a wonderfully hot shower were the highlights of our Villa stay.

PortugalNot having fresh bread at 5:30am (kidding, I'm being ironic here :) I never expected it to have this, obviously). Besides, I have nothing to highlight.
The staff was super friendly, before we arrived, during our stay, and during checkout. The hotel is walking distance to everywhere and there is a parking lot, just around the corner (Parking Cascais Center).
