Marta is a fantastic and exceptional host, you can see the “warm” details everywhere, from the entrance gate to the room, to all the facilities, everything chosen specifically and with a tremendous good taste. We stayed as a couple, the bedroom was perfect with the amazing fireplace, we had experienced a relaxed massage each and it was perfect! We will come back for sure, it’s one of those places that you love and want to see it getting bigger and better :)

The staff, especially Marta, were warm and welcoming. The room was comfortable and quiet, with a fantastic view of the mountains. The infinity pool area and wooden hot tub in the woods were amazing and relaxing—indeed, the attention to detail and harmony with nature were outstanding throughout the property. The breakfast was perfect. It was so hard to leave this wonderful place—we hope to return one of these days. Thank you so much!

The hotel is a little boutique hotel, as we like. The place is exceptional, all well designed and harmonious. Also, the staff makes you feel welcome and is always willing to help. Breakfast was excellent, and also we had some special requests with food that we got an anwer.

Peaceful oasis in a beautifully, renovated spacious hotel spa that used to be one of the Portuguese Royal family’s vacation home. The food was amazing. Accommodations were restful spacious. The staff was extraordinary. There was hiking a pool, hot tub lots of beautiful vistas to explore, and Parking included. I couldn’t have asked for a better stopping point in my trip through Portugal. When I return, I will stay more than one night.

Staff and owners were super nice and very helpful. Location is amazing, isolated and good for a retreat. The property is on top of a mountain, the view from the rooms is breathtaking. You are in the middle of the nature and there are many activities to do in property or nearby. Breakfast was fresh and personalised. You could choose what to eat the day before.

Nice. Quiet surroundings. Up on a mountain. Kinda a yoga retreat and escape from the big city. The breakfast was so good. Home style cooking and plentiful. We also had a lite dinner the night before as we didn’t want to leave. Salad was good. Hot tub was cleaning so we didn’t get to enjoy but pool is very nice. Loved the comfy bed as well and all the natural comforts. All staff delightful!

We think that of all our trip in Portugal this is the most charming, luxurious, beautiful place and with the best host we had, which I can compare maybe only to an experience like 'six senses' and even more! The owner of the place knows each guest personally and takes care of everything we wanted - parking and charging our electric vehicle, laundry, recommended for restaurants, food and everything in one of the more magical places we've seen. The complex - the mother house, is unusually beautiful, and because of the limited number of guests, you feel completely that the place is yours. Martha was the best host we could have dreamed of! the place provides an infinity pool with a breathtaking view, a very high standard of rooms, thinking about every little detail, an excellent breakfast, a lovely teatime and the possibility of hiking around the estate. A dream place, highly recommended.

Our time at The Vagar Countryhouse was a trip highlight during a three-week trek around the entirety of Portugal. It is a stunning property with amazing bedding, delicious food, and a central location for touring local castles. Marta was an exceptional host. I can't say enough good things about our experience. The breakfasts were incredible.We enjoyed their salad and charcuterie board offerings one evening for dinner. Don't look any further if you seek a spot to feel pampered and welcome, out of the hustle and bustle of the coastal cities. Plus, leafing through several Architectural Digest magazines on display in the motherhouse and seeing our room featured was fun. Make sure to visit the castles of Sortelha and Monsanto.

We loved our stay at TheVagar - it really exceeded our expectations. The setting is absolutely stunning, with gorgeous views in every direction and it's an incredibly peaceful place. The facilities themselves that Marta and her family have built are excellent in terms of aesthetic design, comfort and cleanliness. Marta is always on hand to help, and nothing is too much trouble. We had some lovely food there, in particular the breakfast and we also had a great couples massage and baths which I highly recommend.
