The beds could use an update or a topper to soften them - but, I am a bit fussy with beds. Most people aren't bothered by stiff mattresses.

This is such a charming location. The hosts are absolutely lovely. You feel like you are stepping into a museum - super interesting. The breakfast served is incredible - lots of homemade and local delicacies. If anything, go there for the breakfast!

So much amazing and beautiful stuff that is hard to start. My wife loved the tablecloths and sheets. I was fascinated by the peace pipes.

Homemade cakes and splendid breakfast served by a dedicated young man whose parents live upstairs. We had the run of the house and what a home full of treasures from the the Colonial period.

I understand that it suited this special hotel, but the saturation with various antiques was a bit overwhelming.

A rather unusual place to stay. The interior is decorated with various historical elements and is very rich in detail, but it also had all the modern conveniences. The room was particularly large. Breakfast was very good with the host's comments and friendly conversations. Parking right outside the building.

There was no balcony (one was advertised) and two of the four windows would not open, thus the external blinds could not be raised. The view, anyway, was of the other side of a very narrow street. The bed was rather small - both narrow and short. The hot water took 5 minutes to arrive.

Lovely house, with typical Portuguese furniture of yesteryears. José was a perfect host, and breakfast was incredible. The room was very big, nicely furnished again, and very comfortable. Have to return.

The only thing I didn't like was only being able to stay one night. If I'm ever in the region again i'll make sure to spend longer, just for the experience of staying in such A well presented Guest house.

The location was Handy for the city centre but out of the way enough for A peaceful evening. The Room was the size of A small flat and If you've ever wondered what it was like to sleep in A museum, this is the Place. The Art and décor takes back in time yet still providing all modern amenities. even though surrounded in Antiques the whole House was spotlessly clean. The breakfast was fit for A king and I was lucky enough to be given some beautiful homemade, very yummy, cakes to enjoy on my Adventures for the day.

Our host was very accommodating and willing to help with recommendations etc. We were moving on too early to have the breakfast but nonetheless coffee and cakes were left out. Enormous room, well furnished with period pieces, art etc Pretty roof top courtyard was available for guests to use

What a fantastic place - it was literally out of this world! We had a beautiful big (35-40 m2) room filled with gorgeous antique furniture. The owner’s son was a wonderful host, he went out of his way to ensure we were comfortable. He made us a delicious breakfast consisting of specialities from Alentejo as well as his mum’s yummy homemade cake and jams. We had the whole house to ourselves - room after room filled with beautiful and rare antiques from Asia, we have never seen anything like it. This is an absolute GEM - amd we feel humbled and honoured to have been able to spend a few hours in this beautiful location😊 Obrigada.

Everything, the host was outstanding, the room was perfect and specious, very nicely decorated steeped in history. We loved staying there and definitely 100% recommend!! It was just one night as we had an appointment at SEF and it was the perfect stay, the host kindly printed all the paper I needed for it, he also was very knowledgeable about the area and loved sharing this with us. Honestly we have been moving around the country for the last 2 weeks and it was the best host we had by a mile! Passionate about the area, friendly and accommodating! They accept my dog kindly without fuss. We thought it would be a routine appointment but we now plan on returning and staying again so that we can explore the region and enjoy the house further.

Nothing - everything is as you would wish for.

The owners are the most helpfull and pleasant hosts one can imagine. Whatever you ask they will solve any problems and help to get things sorted out. Their advice on restaurants is excellent and they make the reservations if asked for. The breakfast is oppulant with home made cakes, which are difficult to resist - don’t try to calculate calories. Appart fom sweets there are local cheese, ham and scrambled eggs on request. Nice and clean room with a lot of space and classic furniture and antique decoration. Location is excellent for discovery of the old town on foot.

I was absolutely amazed when I walked through the door to see this house full of beautiful antiques. Room after room was beautifully furnished with museum quality pieces that had a story behind it that the host was pleased to explain. My room was 30 ft by 18 ft. In other words, it was enormous. There is also a beautiful courtyard garden to enjoy. There is parking out front reserved for guests and very easy to find on Google maps. The son of the owner speaks perfect English and was helpful in many ways with questions I had about my trip. I would highly recommend staying here.

The stay was wonderful and a true experience. The house is full of things to discover, the hosts were absolutely brilliant, our room was huge and super clean. And the breakfast is very impressive, a food tour through regional products and cakes. So much attention to detail, absolutely recommended.

Solar das Avencas is a noble house and a wonderful place that I really recommend if you stay in Portalegre. The family Manta will make sure the stay is memorable and advice you about all interesting places to visit in the city and surroundings. The breakfast, using only with fresh local products, is absolutely delicious and it's served in a wonderfully decorated room, whose wall paintings, furniture and coffee/tea service will make you feel you are in palace. This family is very generous and will make you feel welcome and relaxed, and also share culture with the guests and interesting conversations. The room has a vintage furniture, but comfortable and impeccably clean. Location is right next to Rossio Square and close to Bus Terminal and many good restaurants.
