Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomWe loved our stay at Quinta das Malvas very much ! So quiet with birds singing, with a view of the ocean from our room the vineyards and beautiful surroundings it was perfect. The wonderful Margarida and Rita( thank you so much 😘) made us feel so very welcome ! They gave us many useful pointers for visits and local info re bus restaurants in Funchal and the coast. A jolly good breakfast of eggs cheeses yoghurt fresh fruit bread and jams set us for a day of exploring round and about the island . There's a fridge a microwave and kettle plus crockery should you wish to rustle up a light supper in the evening ... We hired a car and it is very easy to join the main freeway to travel east or west and then take other roads up to the mountains and the coast . Very highly recommend for a stay .

United KingdomWe liked everything.
A wonderfull place with wonderfull staff. Although this accommodation is up the hill in Funchal there are no issues getting here. Before we arrived staff contacted us on our arrival time. Took the no26 bus from the harbour front area. Bus stop not far from entry door. After we were shown the accommodation and shown around some of the gardens. Lovely gardens with vines and a variety of other plants. Our room was fab, very comfy bed, great shower and bath, breakfast was great sometimes with some lovely cake Everything was fabulous, during our stay there was some Madeiran wine tastings in the garden The house was around 200;years old with amazing floor boards. Also had a great walk around the grounds. Great views over Funchal and down to the harbour. From the house there are 3 buses in close proximity but if you are willing to walk for 15 minutes, there are many more. From the house you can walk on the same level either way for 15 minutes. Some amazing old houses and great views. The number 27 bus goes straight down the the to the centre. Very relaxed atmosphere and was great in an evening when you can sit in one of the 4 large rooms to have a snack. Margarida was very knowledgeable about the area and was very helpful. Would recommend this wonderful place. Cheers and will return. 😁😁

PortugalI absolutely loved the closure of the Funchal downtown. In addition, Margarita and Rita were super helpful and kind - I felt truly like home. Also the Quinta is quiet place to stay and has a wonderful garden for morning walks. Breakfast was also always fresh and super delicious! The place itself made my vacation even better.

United KingdomKettle in the room would be useful.
Amazing old house with lots of character retaining original features overlooking Funchal. Quiet location 20 minutes walk from Funchal centre. Our main host Margarita was amazing and a fountain of local knowledge, friendly and helpful, she gave us and other guests advice and suggestions on places to visit and restaurants to try. We miss being there and would stay again if we return to Madeira. The house is up a hill but a taxi from Funchal only costs around €6.

IrelandNot a dislike... just a warning. The hills in Funchal are VERY steep and the walk up from town is tough. However taxis are easy to find, drivers are friendly and it's only €5-6.
Beautiful old quinta. Comfortable bed. Very quiet at night Good shower pressure. Spacious. Good breakfast. Margarida was so helpful and friendly and gave us lots of advice and tips for places to visit each morning. Loved the little treats of local fruit or cakes too.

PolandA wonderful place to stay! Caring staff, comfortable and nice room with a large bathroom, delicious breakfast, beautiful garden, terrace with a panoramic view of the city. What more could you want? It was perfect :) There is a parking lot in the facility, quick access to island's tourist attractions, and you can easily get to the old center on foot. I highly recommend it!

United KingdomIt's a bit noisy at night because the property set on the hill so prepare ear plug. Bring mosquito repellent to avoid the bites! We felt a bit hot at night so if there's a fan will be a plus but we still can live without it.
We had a wonderful stay here. Good breakfast. The room is specious with a wonderful view. The property is very private and has space to relax and wondering around. We feel very relax in this property. Very easy to go and back to town via Taxi which cost around Euro7 each way. Definitely will stay here again.

PortugalEverything was perfect. The lady that works there is super friendly and caring. Always worried about the guest and making sure everything is perfect. There are many buses that stop in front of the house. I didn’t have a car and I was able to visit everything I wanted and didn’t need to walk much. Very relaxing place. The only complain I have is: my legs are full of mosquitos bites ahah. But I guess that’s not the place fault. Just make sure not to leave windows open during your stay. The lady was super sweet, I was supposed to check out at 11 am, but I had a tour during the afternoon and she let me keep my bags there until I return. Breakfast was simple and good.

PolandThe humidity is unreal so towels don't dry at all. I stayed there for 4 days and they haven't been changed :( So there was a musty smell to them.
The house is surrounded by beautiful garden with amazing flowers, place is very quiet. Only few rooms in there so it's not crowded at all. Breakfast was ok: bread, croissant, selection of cheeses, ham, fruit, cereal, jam, butter. Good wifi. The house is located up the very steep hill so it's a quite a walk - you can take bus or Bolt if you don't have a car to go there or to reach city centre/popular places/stores. You can relax in the garden.

United KingdomThe only real negative was that the rooms do not seem to lock from the inside. Although the staff don't seem to be there during the day, I felt concerned that someone may come in whilst I was asleep/showering. The WiFi also seemed to be slightly temperamental. There was no way to get water from the kitchen, despite there being a kettle etc for guests to use so I used the tap water from my bathroom. The walk down into town is quite nice, but it is directly up a steep hill on the way back for roughly 30 minutes so this is worth considering if you do not have a car/scooter.
Rita was very friendly and the breakfast was enjoyable. Lots of choice in a buffet style breakfast. The room was well equipped with bathroom products and the bed was very comfortable with nice bedding. The area is mostly quiet and there are only a few rooms in the B&B so you're not disturbed by other guests coming and going. All of the other rooms in the house looked lovely too. There is a beautiful garden that overlooks Funchal. There is outdoor furniture so you can eat outside or relax in the sun. Self check-in directions were clear and organised.

The house, view and surroundings are amazing, an oasis of calm in a big city. The house and equipment is old but absolutely charming and authentic. Breakfast is simple but very tasty. Good coffee, fresh orange juice and homemade mango maramalade. The communicative hostess gave us good tips and helped with everything we needed. Cannot imagine better place to stay for the money :)

United StatesNot a problem for us, but the gate into the property is not very wide - best to have a small car and bring the side view mirrors in. Also steep driveway down to the house so be confident in your manual driving skills.
This was like staying in a home with great living room, refrigerator for your use, and quiet rooms. Bathroom was huge with both a shower and tub. Breakfast was excellent - yogurt, meat, cheese, breads, fresh croissants, eggs, and fresh fruit. The two women on staff that we met were delightful, helpful and very friendly - again made it seem like staying in a home.
