Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

GermanyRooms are incredibly noisy, one shower was lit working (but also not fixed in the days we were there), google maps address shows a different location (close by but up a hill), breakfast at 20:30 and not a minute earlier creates havoc and stress for everyone who wants an early start.
It’s situated well if you are walking the Camino. It fulfills all basics.

SloveniaIt was a bit loud (a lot of teenagers). Showers could be cleaner.
The standard of the room was enough for us, it was comfortable for a one night stay while traveling on a budget. Lady at the reception was very kind, breakfast was nice.

New Zealandold and run down building, mouldy shower, large number of people staying so messy bathrooms, broken locks on bathroom doors, at one stage all womens toilets ran out of paper. Noisy with large groups of teenagers. Under the flight path so lots of planes flying overhead. Only a few charging ports in bunkroom. Bunk matresses squeaky when you roll over. Bunks themselves squeaky and wobbly when you roll over. Long way from ALAS/Flixbus bus stop (Terminal Intermodal de Campanhã) and the main old town and restaurant area. Bunkroom doorhand broken so door wouldn't close properly unless you locked it closed
Luggage storage. Breakfast included:ham, cheese, tomato, cucumber, bread rolls, yoghurt, hot choc, tea, coffee, cordial, cornflakes and usual one other cereal, jans, fruit. Has a kitchen with a fridge, microwave and a cook top with cutlery, crockery etc. Has a TV room with some channels in english. There is a Pingo Doce Supermarket across the road. Wifi was good this stay, on a previous stay it didn't work through the night. Lovely helpful staff this time - offered a towel, helped set up the TV, offered to make me a packed lunch as I was leaving early.

PortugalThe doors are thin, and we ear the noises from the corridor - there was a shared bathroom in front of our room so we got waken up by other guests quite early.
We are a family with 2 teens and stayed in 2 twin rooms each with private bathroom, which was very convenient. The breakfast room is a bit like a school canteen but there is enough food and choices to make a nutritious breakfast. There is also a kitchen where guests can make their meals and a supermarket just opposite the Hostel.

GermanyThe walls do seem a bit too thin. While I had been able to hear the people outside in the morning, it did not disturb me as I am used to dormitories. But I get the noise complains from the other reviewers. A friend of mine got a room next to the shared bathroom, and it was worse.
The checkout had accepted me at midnight, which is a huge plus. Included breakfast was moderate in quality/quantity, but very appreciated. The room seems to have seen better days, but aesthetics aside, it fulfilled its purpose. Since I arrived late, it's likely the other people complain about the noise, not me. Sorry.

CanadaIt feels very institutional and a little run down. The kitchen is not very well stocked and only has about 5 plates for a place that has a lot of beds. It was very noisy because all of the door closers are out of adjustment so there was a lot of door slamming going on all night.
There is a good supermarket right across the street

United KingdomWe had to leave the common room when playing pool, as it was getting late, not quite what I expected.
The balcony had a great view. Breakfast was included in the price (however we didn't end up having any, but it did look very nice though) The bathroom facilities were good. Being only a short drive from the city centre was amazing. Porto itself.
