Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

PortugalBathroom, although generally ok, shows signs of age and should be improved.
The Pousada is a very well recovered old monastery with plenty of very nice social areas and confortable rooms. Located outside Belmonte on a quiet hill. Breakfast was good. Price was very competitive.

CanadaThe evening dinner was reasonably priced and delicious. The morning breakfast was equally delicious but the steam tables were not up to the task of keeping food warm, let alone hot.
The location is quiet and lovely. Surrounded by trees, there is neither traffic noise nor dogs barking. There are great views across the valley.

United KingdomSadly (it was early in the season and we arrived with a couple of hours notice, as we tend to do)) our room smelt of damp and the bed had not been aired and was also damp. Such a shame that no one had checked it before our arrival. We had to get a second key to leave the power on while we went for supper above, leaving the heating on full blast to try and rectify things. I'm sure this wouldn't have happened later in the season when the weather has warmed up but it really did spoil our stay.
wonderful peaceful and quiet location and a really imaginative adaptation of an old Monastery en route to the Serra Estrella by motorcycle. Great meal, lovely waiting staff and exceptional own wine and atmospheric lounges in the former ancient buildings and lovely dining room with terraces overlooking the valley. Our room was on the lower level and was well appointed with a lovely sunny balcony above a gorgeous wild garden thrumming with nature.

CanadaThe rain!
We loved the location and the landscaping of the grounds. It was lovely to look across the valley at the snow-capped mountains. The old convent was beautifully renovated to a very high quality. Our room was perfect. The dinner we had there was delicious in a beautiful spacious room with fireplace. I wish we could've stayed longer.

Breakfast was good, the location was superb. There was no elevator to the second floor which was a problem for one of us who had problems with the stairs. It would be good to make future guests aware that no elevator is available so first floor could be chosen as an option.

location is great overlooking the valley with mountains on the other side. The patio was great place to have a drink before dinner.

United KingdomPoxy coffee machine using pods that doesn't ever get proper hot water and only does tiny cups. It would be far more versatile and useful with a simple kettle or at least have a kettle on request at reception for those non coffee drinkers.

United StatesI was very unlucky with my dinner. I ordered from the special seasonal mushroom menu and was very disappointed. The plates were arranged beautifully but my starter, a mushroom & spinach millefeuille, was soggy and bland. It was accompanied by a simple side salad with dressing that reminded me of a USA bottled creamy Italian salad dressing. The rack of lamb with mushroom risotto was so salty I couldn't eat it. The waiter asked if I was enjoying my meal so we discussed the problem. He was very kind and suggested the chef could prepare another plate of lamb with less salt. The 2nd plate was just the same. I discovered the salt was in the sauce, so I scraped all the sauce from the lamb so I could eat it, and only ate a few bites of the risotto which was sitting in the too salty sauce. Food at Portugal's Posadas is normally excellent. This meal was a bit more expensive than at the other 7 Posadas where I've stayed which made it even more disappointing.
To me, the old convent part of the building is very interesting and the decor is fabulous. I enjoyed exploring around the building looking into all the nooks and crannies. There are many beautiful places to sit and relax. The furniture was cozy and comfortable. I was surprised the public areas were a comfortable (warm) temperature in mid-November. Typically old stone buildings are cold inside. My spacious room was also nicely decorated and comfortable with good lighting, excellent WiFi, comfortable bed, and instant hot water in the bath even though it was located at the farthest end of the corridor. Breakfast was very good with many choices including honey still in the honeycomb. At dinner there was a fire in the dining room fireplace which added to the ambience. Views from the room balcony and public areas are amazing panoramas. The staff were all friendly and helpful. Although I did have a complaint about my meal, I plan to return. Next trip I'll order something simple for my dinner.

United StatesSomething about the restaurant. They showed us a huge basket of a variety of delicious looking breads and asked if we'd like some. We said yes, and they proceeded to dole out one tiny little piece of bread about the size of a walnut. Really! We had a good laugh later about that.
This place exceeded expectations. We've stayed in a number of Pousadas in Spain and Portugal and while they are full of atmosphere, they are usually tired and in need of some TLC. I was reluctant to book another one, but this place was in such a great location and got great reviews, so we decided to stay here. It was lovely. The room was huge, nicely decorated, up-to-date, clean and we had a private patio with a great view of a most beautiful valley. We ate at the restaurant that night and it was just fabulous. I don't think I've ever eaten such a tender steak. One of the better meals on our 25-day trip to Portugal. Ample, easy parking. Great location. Great little town.
