Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United StatesThe only not so pleasant experience was with the servers at breakfast who seemed to go out of their way to avoid engaging with us and were reluctant to take our orders for poached eggs - which then took a long time to receive
perfect location right at the centre of the historic district- modern set up. Pedro was very helpful and friendly at reception and Marta was an amazing server - both went above and beyond to make our stay pleasant.

SwitzerlandThe walls are paper-thin which isn't uncommon for facilities of that era. So, you hear people outside talking or cars on the road. The rooms are also end of life and will need renovation in the coming years. However, we believe that over-all, this is also reflected in the price and is clear from all reviews. And so, it's a fair deal and we are happy we decided to go to the NH.
The staff were incredibly helpful with everything and this made our stay unforgettable. Thanks to them, we pre-booked all tickets and time slots and had everything ready the next day. And Pedro went above and beyond to help finding a charger for our EV! We left the hotel fully recharged! The hotel itself is pretty much in the center of the city and they give you a QR code to drive into it when you ask upfront (it's restricted for regular cars but as hotel guest you get privileges). The view from the balcony is also nice. And walking through old Sintra once the daytrip tourists left is quite charming.

United StatesDidn't know that the city off Sintra has restricted hours when Uber can drive to the Hotel property. We had to climb a very steep hills to get to the hotel.

PortugalThe breakfast area was fantastic, but the choice on the buffet was a bit short. Apart from some hard-boiled eggs, fried eggs or scrambled eggs were not available. There could have been more cured ham or some other meat items. The bread choice was rather short as well. However, all of what was available was good, including coffee and tea!
We took our doggie pet with us and there was no fuss whatsoever from the staff. The room was comfortable and spacious, we felt at home. It is located at the heart of Sintra old centre, which enabled us to walk and discover the beautiful Sintra centre. Provided more days, we could easily have been on a number of excursions. We shall have to come back and take a ride on a carriage or in an old car or take an excursion bus, if they accept dogs.

United StatesKnowing that Sintra is a very special place to travel to, I tried my best to do my homework on the ways to arrive there: I messaged the hotel several times, asking whether it's possible to arrive by car, and how to come to check into the hotel through all the city's driving restrictions. Unfortunately, some hotel workers, on the other hand, did not do their job properly: they first told me I would need a QR code to enter the historic center by car during the daytime (which was true!), but then (after I continued messaging and asking when and how do I get that code) hugely misinformed me, telling that I actually didn't need that code, just to press the intercom and tell my hotel reservation number. That was a lie - which we found out when we arrived at that in blocked (and very narrow) drive-in passage. Apparently, the QR code (which could be properly read , ONLY if you also position your car on some fixed spot so that the license plate would be also read by the sensors) the only thing the blocking system sensor could react to and open the road. Nobody from the hotel didn't tell us that, even after I called them from that block post. We created a huge traffic jam, and unhappy locals stranded behind us were helping us to solve that quest! When we finally got to the hotel, there was another quest to get inside the garage and park the car there, but that is the problem of many hotels in this country.
Great location in the historic center, across the street from Sintra National Palace (was seen from our room balcony), all the castles in walking distance! Spacious rooms. Plentiful delicious breakfast with lots of healthy and/or tasty options.

United KingdomParking wasn’t well explained in advance. The sat nav will take you to a street with a bollard on it, you need to press the button on the unit next to the bollard. You need to explain that you’re a guest at the hotel and they will ask for your booking reservation. They will let you through and hopefully there’s a space at the hotel. We arrived late afternoon so the streets were quieter, I can imagine in the middle of the day it would have been a lot more stressful.
Great location! Diogo in the bar was amazing and gave us some brilliant recommendations for wine, he made us feel very welcome.

BelgiumIt was difficult to plan a trip to the tourist sites in sintra without the help of the hotel, make sure to always talk to the hotel when in need of a taxi or uber since car access to Sintra is limited to some extend.
I stayed for 1 week in the hotel, and even not using all the amenities it had to offer i can say that it is a perfect stay specially for families, groups and even solo travelers. The facilities were clean and comfortable. Amazing staff, always ready to help and engaging, only good things about the restaurant too. The location of the hotel facilitates trips in the beautifull town of Sintra and there is easy access to the train station 10 minutes walking from the hotel.

United StatesWhile booking I specifically requested a room with a very strong AC. The AC in our room (208) was not nearly strong enough for our comfort. It couldn't get the room temperature down below 23-24C (73-75F) much higher than our normal sleeping temperature of 20C (68F). That said, the AC in room 402 where our friend stayed was much stronger and she was freezing there with pleasure.
Good hotel in the very center of Old Sintra. Good restaurant for breakfast. Good restaurant for lunch/dinner. Nothing sophisticated, but good enough. We had dinner/drinks two of the three nights we were there. Both times on the balcony overlooking the mountains.

NorwayParking - it was a nightmare to get to the hotels garage. Although it is not the hotels fault that the streets are impossible to drive through, they should have informed us about the need for a pass to get to the hotel street. (Its a one way street that is blocked off at the end unless you get a code)
The location was excellent and made our stay even more enjoyable. The staff were wonderful and the rooms were ok.
