The water pressure was very poor, which is not expected at a 4 star hotel but no deal breaker. The staff are extremely nice and helpful

The staff in the hotel were great. The books are a bit repetitive but quite cheap with more expensive rare editions. The room didn‘t look anything like the pictures but it was nice.

the calmness, the style and the vibe of the place made it: - Maybe the best place you could have dinner at in Obidos: amazing, thought through menu. - Right in the heart of the town, just walk around the corner and find yourself at the city walls.

This hotel has dirty carpet and doesn't have a handle on their dehumidifiers so has a very musty smell. The furniture is made with wood that they tried to seal, but didn't work... I had no hot water in the first night that I stayed so couldn't shower until the next morning.

The beds are extremely comfortable. The breakfast is amazing! Make sure to ask for your eggs as they are cooked to order. The staff are perfect!

Bed was comfy...sadly it had a wooden platform surrounding it and I presume there was a good reason for it. This tripped both of us at night and day getting up. If that platform could be eliminated...please do so. This likely is specific to a single room and not relevant to all rooms however.

Food and their dining room was exceptional. We had 2 salads and 1 was best spring salad I have ever eaten...ever and I am no spring chicken.

Maybe this hotel is not for the guests that have allergies or respirstories problem as the books do have a dust, and old carpet is not very pratical..some rooms do get moffy, go for deluxe suite which is one 2nd floor instead of 1st= ground floor.

The uniqueness and theme, staffs are very sweet, we requested a change room and they tried their best. Restaurant area is amazing, good room size. Location is great, 100m away from wall, car can be accessed for luggages and passengers drop.

Hallway carpet was very discolored and needs replacing. Room and bathroom was a bit dated. Lots of steps to get to our room. I saw a more expensive room down the hall which was much more attractive and probably would pay more next time to stay there.

Excellent meals - both breakfast and dinner. Charming atmosphere. Friendly and helpful staff.

There was a little incident but I already spoke to the staff about it and they were very kind and understanding...

The hotel itself - the books alone is already worth a visit. The room I had was big enough for me and had a good sleep. The staff was very friendly and helpful. I had dinner in the restaurant and enjoyed it very much. There are not a lot of supermarkets in the area and as someone who likes to have some tea or other beverage at night it was a bit of a down side but the hotel was kind enough to let me order from the restaurant so I had my cup of tea at night. I wish I had more time to enjoy the books. maybe next time...

The rooms are not to standards reflected in the listing. When we checked in we were taken to a pokey room with a curtain to the bathroom (hardly 4 star rating standards). The room we paid for was described as a 25sq meter room with city views & a balcony, bathroom with bidet etc. We were taken to a room barely 18sq metres, no view, tiny rundown bathroom, & it was barely to motel standards, let alone a 4star rating. When we approached front desk, the lady at front desk explained that booking.com write descriptions, which are out of their control sometimes. When we asked her what the size of the small room was, she said she didn’t have a measuring tape & did not know. Our conversation escalated to a controlled argument at the reception area, at which stage we were told that ‘to make us happy she will show us 2 other rooms which we can select from to make us happy’. We were then offered one of the other rooms (which actually fit the description of the room we had paid for originally) Prior to leaving the hotel, we had the opportunity to poke our heads into other rooms which were being cleaned,& realised there are significant variations to rooms in this hotel, as one other room we saw was quite lovely. So this hotel seems like it’s a bit of a lucky dip…you blindly get a room & wish for the best. There is no consistency it seems, thus the mixed reviews.

The common space is decorated nicely & using authentic.

Huge room. Amazingly appointed. Great art, lounge, TV comfy bed. Fantastic location near side entrance to city. Close to city square. Absolutely amazing city. One of my all time favorite cities to visit and The Literary Man will be the only place id choose to stay. Absolutely the best! Breakfast was unbelievable. The photos on their website do not lie! Definitely would recommend this hotel.

Very good location to the walled city. The hotel had tons of character, and the rooms were very spacious and comfortable. The complementary breakfast was the best I’ve had on the trip.
